hey everyone,

i'm looking into buying a v60ci and i just want to see what kind of feedback i get.

do you guys like your v60?? do you experience good RF? any comments or recommendations would be great.

TwoTouch?

you in here?

care to comment??

Posted by: itchy

by that comment, i take it that it's not a very good phone???

Posted by: dirtyjeffer

some people in here seem to swear by them...but they have been nothing but problems where i am from (mainly the V60c, not the ci as we don't sell many of them).

I've heard of two problems:

1. Going to analog too quickly
2. Antenna breaking. To be honest, people must be really rough with their phone for it to break.

Are there other problems?

to give you an idea...we were selling roughly 30 antenna's per week...that is a lot of antenna's...i doubt i have had to order a total of 30 antennas in the last year for almost every other model combined.

i've been told to hold off on buying the v60 from a friend that works at a bellworld.

but i talked to a CSR at bell and she told me she'll give me a extra 100$ on top of the rebate of 100$ if i buy the phone. which makes the phone 200$, which i think is pretty sweet.

do you think i can get more of a discount if i call back and nag them?? or should i just take the 100$??

the thing is i'm purely a Motorola guy. i haven't found a phone other than Motorola's that i've liked and a lot of the phones out there by bell in my view are just butt ugly right now.

if its worth it to you then buy it...there is probably a reason they are giving you an extra $100 off for buying it though.

I've seen first hand a customer walk in to get his v60 back from another software upgrade, and the manager looked at the antenna before giving back to him, and the look in his eyes was "Crap, it's broken", but didn't say anything.

I casually walked by and told the customer to look at his antenna, which turned out broken. I did that only because of the managers face, and everything I heard here.

It was broken, and the customer asked for another phone, anything but a v60.

Posted by: itchy

the broken antenna thing doesn't bother me, cause i'm not very rough with my phones. i think i may have dropped by current phone twice since i've had it for about 2 years now.

it's just the reception i'm worried about. if the phone had overall good reception, i'll be happy.

Posted by: -- BellBoy --

From what I hear I don't think you need to drop it in order for it to break.

Maybe someone that owns one could add their .2 cents.

Posted by: itchy

well does anyone have one?? how's the reception??

Posted by: dirtyjeffer

most people that had them have probably already replaced them.

Posted by: itchy

ok so since most of you guys think the v60 is crap.

what do you suggest for a phone?

Posted by: dirtyjeffer

are you in a hurry?

Posted by: itchy

nope, my phone that i'm using right now is still in mint condition.

Posted by: dirtyjeffer

there are tons of new phones coming this year with several expected in the summer...if you don't see anything else you like now, wait a bit and get something you want, even if it is a V60ci...it is you that is using it, so if you like it, that is all that matters.

Posted by: itchy

yeah very true, but if the reception sucks bad i'm gonna have to whip the phone on the ground..

i don't care about the antenna, just reception.

do you know what bell has planned for the new phones?

the design of their antenna plays a very integral role on reception...so when it breaks, it is worse than it normally is.

Posted by: itchy

do you know what the new line up is?

Posted by: Nokia 6188

The guys in the Telus forum say that the V60ci has a much more studdier antenna than the V60c, and is less prone to breaking off. Is this true?

Note:
Cell phone gurus Howard Chu, Steve Punter as well as others in both the Bell and Telus phones claim that Motorola phones perform best on the Telus network, and for some reason does not perform as well on the Bell network. Therefore, you might want to switch to Telus if you want to use a Motorola phone. Otherwise, try a Samsung or something else if you want to stick to Bell.

itchy,
Based on what you've written, I'm sure you'd like the V60ci. It's the best phone on Bell for fundamentals, i.e. working like a phone, by far: it easily has the best RF and sound. Solid build, too. The antenna thing is definitely debatable, but, again based on what you wrote, I don't think it'd be a problem for you. I'd highly recommend the phone. (Incidentally, I'd also recommend Telus...)

Nokia 6188,
Yes the antenna is sturdier. Plus it "clicks" into place more solidly.

Also, regarding Motorolas on Telus vs. Bell, it's true that the Telus network seems to be slightly better "tuned" since more garbling (a.k.a. frame rate errors) is noticeable on Bell. But this, in my experience, is true no matter what phone you use. Not worth switching over if you're happy with Bell... but that's another can of worms...

Thanks for all your comments, i think i'm gonna take a chance with the v60, if it works anything like my timeport P8767, i'll be a happy guy. My timeport works flawlessly and by far the best phone in terms of reception that i've owned.

Posted by: andrew2k3

it should be okay. ive used a startac alot on telus, basically a timeport, and that worked great. ive used a v60c for short periods of time it seemed to be alright. earpiece volume not as loud as the star tac but still alright, RF was not as good as the startac. not by a huge margin though, only thing about the sound i didnt like on the v60c was that it seemed to bassy for my liking, startac/time port was a little more pleasing, but overall i would still prefer a v60 over a timeport because of more features smaller size, metal casing ect...

Hey,

I have had my 60ci since december, no problems with reception, broken attennas or anything of that nature, it's been working great for me and it looks pretty sharp too.

Does the Bell v60ci actually come with the ci software (IE includes games and calc)?
Also, I've heard from various people that Motorola admitted their v60 antenna design was defective and offered to replace it if you send it to a service center. Maybe that was only on Telus though... (try seaching the telus forum)

Posted by: itchy

what do you mean by defective??? i just bought the v60 on sunday and i have to admit that so far i'm pretty happy with it.

no games (and i don't know about calc)...it is a V60 with a new style antenna and interchangeable colour shells available.
