Lower end colour flip phone advice? (<$200 budget) - How about a Z550i?

Hi. My GF wants a new phone. She doesn't have heavy needs, but wants a quad band GSM phone (or at least Tri-band with 850), and it has to be a colour flip phone.

I want to spend less than $200, and was considering the Sony Ericsson Z550i for $175, minus whatever is in my Fido dollars account. (She's on Fido as well, so locked isn't a big issue.)

I'm looking around and it seems the Z550i is almost defunct now. What other options should I be looking at?

Why don't you go for the Z550a instead? Z550i doesn't have 850 band. I have the Z550i and it just does not compare to quadband phones like the W810.

Sorry, I meant Z550a actually.

But is there any comparable phone that's cheaper, or else a better phone for the same price?

get Z710i instead
2mpx cam (no AF though), M2 support, external music control, ability to flash to W710i
it's pretty solid phone, I have been using for 15 months, my sis is using it now, just has some FWT on buttons

Thanks but the Z710i costs twice as much. I was hoping to stay in the <CAD$200 price range.

The Z550a I can get for $175 from Fido (or even <$100 if I include my Fido dollars).

How about the W300? Seems like a good, cheap phone.

ya i also believe w300 is a pretty good phone within your budget.

I'm pretty sure you can get a used or even new Z710i for the amount your looking for if you look hard enough. Its certainly worth it over the W300 and the z550.
