Is this a picture of a "bricked iPhone"?

WTF.

Here's the deal...

Had 1.1.1 unlocked and jailbroke.

Went up to 1.1.3 (like a *******) and bypassed 1.1.2.

So, initially, when I updated to 1.1.3, when it rebooted, it was jailbroken atleast, I mean, I played with the moving of the icons and all that crap.

So, I can't remember exactly what I did, but I was attempting to downgrade back to 1.1.1.

Well, I was unable to do that, so I just let it sit over the weekend.

SO

Today, I go and decide damn, I atleast want this thing to SOMEWHAT work, so I connected to iTunes, and let it restore to 1.1.3.

However, now it just looks like the picture above.

WTF did I do?

I swear...Next time I unlock my iPhone, I'm leaving it alone. To hell with upgrading...

This might help if you already haven't checked it out http://iphone.unlock.no/OTB112unlock.htm

Posted by: n8d615

Oh...and to add to that...

Right now, I am attempting to connect it to iTunes, and force a restore of 1.1.1 which I have downloaded...However, it's giving me the Error 1 message. That's why I am asking if it's jacked up.

I have confirmed that it is in DFU restore mode and not regular restore mode.
(Press and hold both buttons, when hear the ding doong, let off the power button but keep holding down the home button till you hear the Ding Ding).

LMAO... I can really feel your frustration.

I don't think thats a picture of a Bricked iPhone. Its a picture of a non-JailBroke or unactivated iPhone.

Now you ahve to JB and Unlock it.

Gracias...Going to try that now.

Can I bring back a petition for the STICKIES PLEASE?

The WIKI is okay, but the stickies that GEEK.DL and others had was awesome for people like myself that do dumb crap to their iPhones. It was easier to find things when stickies were around.

Suppose the old *#307# trick doesn't work on this software since it keeps giving me crap everytime that I try it.

Oh...and check this out...Something else stupid I did that I hope doesn't come back to bite me in the ***...Before upgrading to 1.1.3, I did that thingie from installer that was supposed to bring my baseband up to the right one? I can't remember...maybe it was from concieted?

II need to stop being "under the influence" of things when I am attempting to play with a $500 phone.

Let's see here...

Download ziphone...

follow the jailbreak/activation instructions

you should be good to go.

If you upgraded your baseband, youre going to need to restore to 1.1.3. You shouldnt need to monkey around with all the other stuff.. just restore to 1.1.3 and run ziphone.

Posted by: n8d615

Thank you guys! I am downloading ziPhone now and will try it.

As far as upgrading/restoring to 1.1.3, that picture above is what my phone looks like after doing that.

Posted by: MadFlava

Do you have a legit ATT account? If so, iTunes should pop it out of that mode when you finish your restore. If you dont, you need to unlock it so ziphone should take care of that for you.

Posted by: n8d615

Trying to run ziphone, and it brings up the DOS command prompt, then instantly closes.

Is my computer a POS too?

Negative on the "legit" ATT account.

Posted by: MadFlava

You have to open a DOS box and navigate to where ziphone is.

Put the phone in restore mode and type:

ziphone -a -j -u and rejoice.

Posted by: MadFlava

Actually I dont think you can use -u so just use -a -j and then AnySim

Posted by: n8d615

Ahh...DOH

Okay...doing it now...

I type the commands out, it says put the phone into restore mode, then a windows error pops up.

GRRR

I HATE TECHNOLOGY

Posted by: n8d615

Ok..whenever i try any command -u, -a, -j, it just keeps throwing a windows error.

Damn DELL. I hate DELL.

Posted by: MadFlava

What kind of windows error

If you are still having problems, send me a PM.

Is that like, Windows NT or is that XP denoted as NT? If it's NT, I think youre asking a lot for the program to run under that since the software is what, 10 years out of date?

Actually, looking at the window, I guess that is XP. Nevermind.

I dunno what to tell you. Ive been hunting around in the threads on ziphone and havent seen anything related to an exception error.

Posted by: n8d615

Yeah...Sorry...I'm not too tech savvy. =-)

Wasn't sure what I was supposed to snap a screenshot of...the entire thing is like 80 million charachters.

I know what you are doing wrong. You are putting the iPhone in DFU when you are supposed to be simply unplugging it, powering it off, holding the home button, and plugging it back in. Is the phone in DFU mode currently?

Posted by: n8d615

Just tell me my computer is a POS.

HAH.

I have a MAC here, but I am not 100% sure how to do it on a MAC. Guess it's time to start searching again and try and figure this out.

Only downside to that, is I am new to the mac community and will probably wind up frying the iPhone AND the MAC.

Might as well go ahead and throw the BlackBerry into the mix as well, because I will probably have it hooked up at the same time and fry all my electronical devices.

In case you missed it, read my post above. We hit enter at the same time.

AHH...Yes, it is actually. NICE. Great great great.

Okay, I was confused by the hold down the home button. I thought it meant keep holding it.

Gotcha...Back to OS install....

Posted by: n8d615

Restoring the phone back to 1.1.3 again...I'm gonna go smoke...BRB.

BTW, did I just scan over it, did it say to not put it in DFU mode? Or was I just assuming that I needed to do that since I have been having to do that to get my iTunes to work with in my previous 4 days of f**k-ups.

This happened to me also. This error occurs if you put the phone in DFU mode when you are supposed to disconnect, power off, hold home button, and re-connect. I kept putting it in DFU mode instead and would get these same errors.

Dont feel bad, I did the same thing.

When it gets to that part, disconnec the phone from the PC, and turn it off. As it is turning off and you the spinning wheel in the middle hold down the home button and plug the iPhone back in to the computer. After a second you will see the cable and iTunes logo. At that point, let go of the home button and let the software do its thing.

Posted by: n8d615

Gotcha...Good deal.

Just waiting on it to finish loading...This is about the 10th time in the last 4 days I have done that...anyways.

So whats up with the iTunes/CD label now.

Is that how the unactivated 1.1.3's look coming out of the box?

No more world in the background?

Posted by: n8d615

Ok. ..going now...saying wait 2'30"
I leave iTunes up during this time, right?

Posted by: n8d615

SWOOT! It unlocked!

So now I have to get anysim 3 from installer?

Make sure you have BSD subsystem installed.

Posted by: n8d615

Ahh..think i missed that. Lemme check.

Posted by: n8d615

I am going to head home and do it there, so I will report back here in a bit. Keeping fingers crossed.

Thanks to you guys, I appreciate it. This had been getting on my nerves the last few days.

I was expecting it to be bricked and me to have even bigger problems.

I owe you a beer.

Are you running XP?

You dont get that error in Vista when you put it in DFU mode.

I am running XP. This is off topic, but I wouldn't touch Vista with a 10 foot pole.

Posted by: n8d615

ok. Gotta keep this going huh?

Trying to run anysim and it keeps saying to set the auto lock to never and just quits.

And yes. It is set to never and been rebooted.

yep. Tried to airplane mode also. Hrmm.

I think something else is missing too.

Posted by: n8d615

No, you have the latest baseband. Sounds like a weird little glitch. I would restore to 1.1.3 & repeat the process.

Posted by: n8d615

SWOOT!

I know how to do that by now and can probably do it in my sleep.
HAHAHAHA..

Okay...gonna do that and keep my fingers crossed. I shall report back!

Posted by: n8d615

Okay...Restored back to 1.1.3, and ran ziphone (so much easier once you know what you're doing!).

Attempting to download BSD Subsystem...keeps giving Package Download Failed.

Gonna keep trying, as it was giving me that yesterday too. my guess is with the amount of people hammering that download site right now, it's running funky...

Will report back!

Posted by: n8d615

Okay!

So I restored it, used the new ziphone and tada, it works!

I had to follow the instructions on this thread:
http://howardforums.com/showthread....download+failed

But now I am unlocked and chatting away on TMobile! WOO HOO!

THANK YOU SO MUCH for your help. I would be still cursing myself and the iPhone without you guys. You ROCK!

hes right, thats the activation screen for the iphone, if that happens during the jailbreak process, its fine, that means ur are not finished jailbreaking

Posted by: Motograter

Dont think you can go from 1.1.3 to 1.1.2 or 1.1.1. If you want to Jailbreak 1.1.3, you need to find a program called "AutoDown" which will allow you to downgrade from 1.1.3.
After that, you should be able to jailbreak 1.1.1 then go to 1.1.2. I've heard of a JB for 1.1.3, but haven't seen it for myself..... Yet......
Good luck

Posted by: n8d615

I will give an update of what I did (the short version, and from what I can remember for those who may have the same issues that I put myself in).

1. I had a 1.1 iPhone.
2. I was going to upgrade to 1.1.3, so I downloaded that app in the installer to bring your boot up (not sure of the exact verbage or name of it, but you probably know what I am talking about).
3. I upgraded to 1.1.3 and completely by-passed 1.1.2 and thought I bricked my phone (didn't know of the new "Activation Required" screen.
4. Kept trying to downgrade and couldn't.
5. Found some help on here that pointed me the right way.
6. Jailbroke with ziphone but when trying to download anysim and bsd from installer, they kept saying "script error" or download package failed".
7. Restored once again to 1.1.3 (About the 10th restore).
8. Found ziphone-1 and downloaded it.
9. ziphone-1 jailbroke and activated the phone.
10. Then was able to use installer to get AnySim 1.3 and BSD Subsystem.
11. Downloaded them.
12. Ran AnySim 1.3
13. Successful unlock.

Would have never been been able to get it without the cooperative effort of everyone on this board, so I appreciate you all.
