V3M Skins Menu Removal?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hi there,

Before I realized I was using a CDMA phone (yea, I'm a newb)...
I tried installing some themes/skins with skinmaster.
They 'kind' of worked, so I started doing some research (do guys EVER research before there is a problem?).

So, now I used p2kc to remove the files in the folders of the botches themes, and the folder disappeared. But under personalize, the menu items for the old skins still exist. Any method to remove those menu items?

Thanks in advance.

Download the program called BitPim.

Set up your phone to communicate with BitPim (very easy if you have it working with p2k) and use the File System view. Locate ALL the skin folders (there are acouple from the memory card and whatnot) and then delete the folders which the skin names are in. This will remove the skin from the skins menu on the phone.

Btw, I always do detailed research, of what I am attempting to do, on my phone before I do it.

worked in part.
only one I can not get rid of is IPhoneMoto

probably because it has the word moto in it the provider has a lock on it and I can not delete it.

I think the iphonemoto might have had an uninstall.
I might try reapplying it and then uninstalling it.

So when you right click the directory IPhonemoto it wont allow you to delete?

Nope.
Says Provider does not allow this action.. or some sort.
Probably because it has the word moto in it.

I was able to delete all the files except the ski and the folder.
But that would leave me with a broken skin and brickville if I accidentally picked it. So, I put all the files back up and at least will not brick my phone now if I accidentlly choose it. It looks like crap and I have to use the Force to navigate back to skins and choose a default skin to reclaim icons.. but so be it.

I even tried the uninstall_p2k that comes with it.
It loads the skin uninstaller but p2k stalls, probably because it reaches the protection.

Ah well. It was a nice try.
Someday the cell services around here (and my employer) will crawl out of the dark ages. Until then, I guess I am stuck with changing wallpaper and ringtones.
Until then...

Thanks for the pointer to BitPim.
It was a good tool to verify what I was seeing in P2k.

I have installed a number of skins on my v9m with the word Moto in it, and it allowed me to delete the directory. P2K only removed the files within the folder, but didn't remove the actual option from the skins list. Thus I used BitPim to finally rid my phone of the skin, and it worked.

if you want to know more about Bitpim and how to make your Motorola better you can visit http://www.sonopia.howardforums.com. It's pretty simple to understand and interesting source

First, your post in not helpful. It does not even link to a specific page related to my problem.

Second, the link does not work.

Lastly, if you were trying to point me to sonopia(dot)com, it is just an advert.
Get a life.

Is the answer to my situation there?

here's a stupid question...

what skin is active when you are trying to delete iPhoneMoto?

Posted by: BHShaman

Maybe because I have GSM skin and CDMA phone (DOH!) or because USCellular does funky things with the phone and it is hard to know what they have frigged up trying to protect their EasyEdge service until you try something.

Ultimately, it is because the skin does not represent itself like it should.
So, once it is activated I have to guess which options I am pushing in order to get back to the skins menu and choose another one.

I don't want my wife or kids to choose it thinking it is a valid option and then have to use the "Force" again to find the skins menu and get back one of the default ones.

you could always try getting MSU and p2kCommander. they should be able to delete the skin.

beware that when using p2kCommander, an empty folder will disappear from the file list, so if you get the 2 skin files deleted, you'll have to use BitPim to delete the empty folder.

scoot on over to the moto section of the verizonwireless forum, links are there.

or go here: http://mark.cdmaforums.com/V710_Software.htm

P2kc will not delete the 2 files.
I was able to remove the other GSM skins with P2kc but not the one with the MOTO files. It will not delete the *.ski

well, here is another suggestion, if this doesn't work i am out of ideas. go here and download the full skin pack:
http://www.howardforums.com/showpos...34&postcount=92
take any one skin from the pack (lets say MacOSX)
rename all of the files to iPhoneMoto (leaving the numbers on the end if they are there)
go through the install.p2kc script and change all occurrences of MacOSX to iPhoneMoto.
try and install this skin, leaving it overwrite the old files.
see then if you can delete it. if not, at least you will have a working skin there.

i have never seen p2kCommander or BitPim fail to delete a file.
try and install the skin

edit:
make sure the original Moto skin is the active skin.
try shutting off the phone, taking the battery out for about 5 minutes, put it back in and power up. that ski file may be locked in some way that a power cycle will clear (kind of like trying to delete a file in windows that is (or was) running.
