Used IPSF on my own virgin 8bg 1.1.1 iPhone and it works fine so I decided to help out my buddy who has a 4gb unlocked iPhone but not sure which unlocked program was on it since he bought it like that. I assumed it was AnySim. He wanted to upgrade to 1.1.1 to take advantage of the apps on installer. So I proceeded to by restoring to firmware 1.1.1. I jailbroke then ran AnySim 1.1 and at the end it said unlock was successful but no signal bars. I rebooted the phone and still no luck. I then ran the baseband virginizer from the iphone.unlock.no repository. Still no luck so I resorted to my last option which was purchase IPSF after installing BSD Subsystems. At first it said that it could not d/l firmware. So I restored it to 1.1.1 again, jailbroke it, then installed BSD Subsystems and ran IPSF again and it got further into the install but it gave me a server communications error. I restored it again to 1.1.1 and now I am getting the error 1011 and it will not restore. Not even with the older 1.0.2 firmware. Help!! I have no idea what to do.

Your first mistake was "restoring" to 1.1.1 if he was running 1.0.2. You should have "upgraded" to 1.1.1. You have to keep trying to "restore" to 1.0.2.

Restore to 1.1.3 in iTunes, and then run ziphone. There is a good tutorial on www.iclarified.com.

Right now it's stuck on the connect to iTunes screen.

Did you restore to 1.1.3? if so run ziphone -a -j -u and your done

When I get home from work I am going to try to upgrade to 1.1.1 then go from there since I technically never update and I only restored from a 1.0.2 to 1.1.1. I don't know if that will still give me the error.

Why not just do what the above members have suggested and restore to 1.1.3 and run Ziphone...that will almost certainly solve your issues and give you a jailbroken and unlocked phone running the latest firmware.

It is on the screen with the charger pic with an arrow to itunes. When I plug it in the only option I get is to restore. How can I update it?

like everyone said here, u should of updated and then jailbreak then once installer showed up u should gone to 1.1.1 tweaks and installed oktoprep and then upgraded to 1.1.2 and run the jailbreak from a file u can search for to downlaod thats labeled 1.1.2. After u did that u should of ran anysim 1.2.1u and u would of been done

Restore it to whatever firmware you like and then update it to 1.1.3 using iTunes if you can do that. Then just run ziphone to activate and jailbreak....use anysim to unlock....thats what I did with the help of another member here and it worked perfectly.
