Newbie question about Baseband and Bootloader

Sorry if this is covered in another post, but I seached and couldn't find it.
I understand that the Baseband is upgraded if I upgrade the firmware, but is the Bootloader ever upgraded by updating the firmware, or will the Bootloader always remain the same as when I first took the phone out the box.
