Mac OSX jailbreak & unlock advice

With lots of new faces in the forum and a rush to experiment with the flurry of beta jailbreaks and unlocks coming out, I have a recommendation - given all the variables in versions, iTunes versions, etc..

Wait until the new version of Independence comes out in the next day or so, to provide a more stable all in one solution.

While base code from zibri and geohot work, personally I am waiting for this independance release before taking my phone to 1.1.3 (through itunes) and jailbreaking/unlocking; as its creator continually makes this a quality and stable mac user solution

Great post Lestat_d. I wholeheartedly agree with you. Pretty excited to see iNdependence will be back stronger than ever! For any other mac users I would definitely say wait just a couple days for this release. Looks like it will be a great all-in-one option with GUI for mac users!

Surprisingly, iJailbreak worked great as well (for just jailbreaking that is).

ijailbreak seems to work well...

will upgrading my jailbroken/unlocked iphone to 1.1.3 erase all my stuff on it.(it had 1.1.3 on it, and i had to go to 1.1.1 to 1.1.2 to unlock and what not) is it a simple upgrade or do i have to restore?

Yes it will...

Could not agree more. I am waiting as well; it is simply impossible to know what works after what method, and what side effect leaves it's footprint on each other method..

Following the scene as long as I have, I am sticking to the basics. For crying out loud, Zibre has had 4 releases in 2 days, tells you how clean his code is. Independence will be spotless when it arrives; I have no doubt.

For those who say iJailbreak works; great. Do us all a favor, and write a detailed tutorial on what works, and does not. Do not leave anything out, as this is also the second update in 24 hours.

Thanks to all.

Edit.. Well lookie here, almost done independence

iJailbreak being not as well known will not have as much user attempt testing rolled into it on the past days. The benefit of indepenence is that its author has a track record for solid software, and its very popular. So in my opinion you will have less likelihood of the one-off nightmare scenarios some folks are reporting now by running ziphone natively, etc.

Have a look at the change log on the independence site, and you will readily realize this guy "gets it" - with an all in one bulletproof jailbreak, activate and unlock solution.

Hang in a day or two, and go the independence route this weekend, is the best mac user advice I can give; based on what I have been seeing.

Yes I know, I was just pointing out that iJailbreak just works, and works very well at one thing, jailbreaking. For more robust-ness (), use iNdependence.

I'm holding out as well, and still on 1.1.2. Even though ziphone works great for many people, the constant updates makes me think about the solidity of his software. Nothing against zibri or anything, just a personal thought. Plus I have a Mac

They have come out with an OSX GUI version. But if it's still the current news, it only works on Leopard... If that's true, maybe 2.1 will support OSX 10.4

ZiPhoneOSX is suppose to use 2.0 correct? If so, then they have an error with it saying next to unlock "(Only for 4.6 BL)". That alone is enough for me to continue to steer clear.

can you use ziphone 2.6 with osx tiger? or is it just ppc that it doesnt work with?

Posted by: kelpo55

Ziphone 2.6b loaded up fine for me in 10.4.11...

I did not try to activate, jb, unlock anything, nothing to do...

Hi everyone, i just jailbroke with ziphone 2.6.

When i try to install an app, it says i must install BSD subsystem or Cydia first.

Can someone kindly point me in the right direction to find either BSD subsystem or Cydia.

thanks!

Posted by: kelpo55

Goto Installer then Sources click edit then add
Enter this http://Repo.apptapp.com
Goto Install then All Packages
Find BSD Subsystem and install it
iPhone will reload

Also install these from this source:

Ste Packaging: http://repo.smxy.org/iphone-apps:

Community Sources, BSD Subsystem (if you haven't already), Open SSH Server & Client, Summerboard

iPhone will reload

Your now golden... :-)

Good Lucky.

Posted by: THEdAY

thanks kelpo.

I installed BSDsubsystems, community sources, summerboard, and a few other sources.
But what is SSH server and client for?

I just jailbroke, unlocked and whatever else with iPlus 2.0 on my Mac and everything went through flawlessly. I can't believe how easy it really was.

now if only I could figure out how to add my own ringtones to my new toy.
