"3G" data indicator and battery life on BJ2

Ok, I start up MediaNet/IE to surf the web and then I close the
browser by simply hitting the red 'end' key.
However, the little "3G" symbol above the signal bars is still there.
Will having the 3G data connection active kill my batter life or do you need to be transferring data to affect battery life.

I go into task manager by holding the "home" key and stop the IE/MediaNet
application but the 3G data connection symbol remains. I have to press the
power on/off button to see the 'wireless manager' and then turn off the MedianNet.

Basically, does have a 3G data connection (i.e. the 3G symbol over signal bars) affect battery life?

Yes, an open data connection does kill battery life.

I see you already figured out how to close the connection

There is a mod you can do to have it auto-close after xxx time idle, but it comes with a decent amount of bugs as a result.

In the Windows Default Home Screen, you can also just click on the AT&T/Time/Date row and this will bring you to the wireless manager. Easier than pressing the power button.

Thanks for that shortcut. Nice!
