Need to get my unlocked phone serviced - what to reset to?

Hello,

My iPhone has that issue where the bottom keys on the keyboard don't function correctly. For AT&T user of the iPhone Apple just swaps. I am in Vancouver however so needed to unlock it.

I used the clean AnySim 1.1 method.

How do I restore the baseband so it looks 'virgin' ? After I do this do I just need to do a restore in iTunes so it looks new ?

The folks at the apple store will obviously wonder why I am not using it as a phone, what do you say ?

I really wish I didn't have to go through these ridiculous hoops.

thanks.

They will probably do a restore on your phone when you take it there. After the restore is done their going to ask for your at&t sim card to activate the phone. If you don't have one then their not going to continue to work on the phone. At least thats what happend to me since im with tmobile and didnt have the phone activated. Try getting a prepaid sim or something, but the fact remains that the phone isnt activated on at&t and I believe they require that now.

damn. What if I borrow a friends AT&T iPhone SIM. Is the SIM connected to a particular iphone in any fashion?

do a manual upgrade to 1.1.1 and that will virginize it I can walk you through it, I recovered 4 phones with the same problem for my friends. I am currently running 1.1.3 now

Hello,

I am familiar with taking it back to 1.1.1, and I see in the installer list there is a 'revirginizer', so that should bring it back to 'normal'. My concern is when I go to Apple service won't they wonder since I had the phone since mid last year
- why is it being used as an ipod
- why has it never been activated with an AT&T sim.

It still has warranty. What if I just sell it to an American informing them of the issue, but they can get it fixed once they sign up with AT&T. Would that work ?

Has anyone had luck getting a revirginzed but non AT&T iPhone serviced ?

thanks.

I have repaired 3 iPhones that had that message, where are you located? if you are in the GTA I can probably help you.

oh sorry I didn not read the vancouver part up above, how much would you want to sell it for if you do not want to go through the trouble? It does take a considerable amount of time to recover it though.

Hello,

I don't think I am making myself clear. This isn't really a technical question, I can 'reset' the iPhone myself.

The question is has anyone revirginized their phone and then managed to get it serviced from Apple. From the one response above it appears they require an enabled in us AT&T iPhone SIM, making it impossible to get it serviced if you bring it up to Canada.

Yes AT&T has changed their policy on the repair or replacement of the unit. You must have a AT&T account, at one point even I had some issues with apple and I do have a AT&T account although I live in Toronto. What kind of issues are you having with your phone though?

About 60% of the time the last row of my keyboard doesn't work, it hits the keys above it (pressing .?123 does a shift, space types a 'x c v or b', and return types a delete). Also pressing the sms message send section doesn't always bring up the keyboard, I have to keep pressing it. The typing issue also happens in mail and safari. Weird thing is there are no problems hitting the main phone, mail safari, or ipod buttons but this maybe because they are so large. I've had this issue with 1.1.1. and 1.1.3

I tried the 'sensitivity' fix that changes the prefernences.app general.plist already, that messed up things even more.

How can Apple justify only repairing the iPhone with a valid AT&T account. I signed no such agreement when I bought the phone, it was supposed to come with a 1 year warranty.
