iPhone usage shocks Google

Quote:
Google on Wednesday said it has seen 50 times more search requests coming from Apple iPhones than any other mobile handset -- a revelation so astonishing that the company originally suspected it had made an error culling its own data.

I'm not surprised. I use Google on my iPhone at a minimum of twice a day. Be it looking up recipes for dinner later that night so I can buy the ingredients fresh before I get home, or using Google's wap proxy site http://www.google.com/gwt/n because it loads up a striped down version of my favorite websites faster over an Edge connection. While at the gym listening to music on the treadmill a thought comes to mind, I'm curious to know more about it, so I quickly search it from Google. Or my girlfriend says as we're watching a movie, "Where have I seen that actor before?" And from the couch I'll quickly type in the actor's name into Google to find out.

My iPhone has nearly replaced my computer. I don't use my PC to check my mail, or lookup random tidbits of information or check out what's hot on YouTube. My iPhone does all of this for me.

I have to agree. I use my home PC about half as much as I used to. My wife used to laugh at me for checking my email as soon as I got home. Now I sometimes dont check it for a few days.

I also use Google a lot. I cant tell you how many times I've used it when we're out for the day, and need to find a store we're looking for.

that number likely includes searches when using the map app which I use quite a bit.

I bet most web sites in general are seeing this kind of ratio.

I attribute my heavy use of google on my iphone to having it as the default search bar. Most mobile devices you have to browse to google than search. The iPhone makes it that much easier for me to use google search.

I hardly ever use my laptop for the Internet now its I much quicker to use my iPhone no more waiting for the laptop to power up & then log on , I just touch the screen and I'm there. Its by far the best phone iv owned

I was looking around for a light notebook for use mostly while I am in the bed!!I like browsing the internet while in bed,no need to say my Iphone does that perfectly now..!!

It's great that google search is right below the address bar!

I think I may be the only person who really doesn't like browsing the web from the iPhone. I mean, I use it when I'm on the go to look up something quick.... but if I'm near any of my computers, I'm much more likely to just hop on Opera go. I can't really use the iPhone for casual web browsing and such, too much scrolling and moving around.

I use Google's built in search all the time too. And I was trying out a N95-3 for a few days and loaded Google maps on it to try the search and it just sucked! I love how easy it is to use on the iPhone!

I see the N95 didn't work out for ya. I agree search is much, much easier on the iphone. They both have their strong points thats why i'm keeping both

I use Google alot in my iphone too.

Just last night i was in the car with the GF, she was saying she forgot the name of a rock band she used to like like 10 years ago.

I asked to tell me some of the lyrics, she told me, i googled it and bam! i was showing her a video in youtube of her band. Awesome phone!

Yeah pretty much it didnt work out. I tried it solid for almost 2 weeks and EVERYDAY it would die on me! Its still a great device and I almost decided to keep both too but the 500+ for the N95 was just too much too keep!

It isn't so surprising that people use Google so much on their iPhones, maybe 50x's any other handset is a little though because the iPhone is probably still outnumbered by other devices that have been on the market for much longer. In the past I have kept my phones and PDA's separate and even having a Palm TX with wifi I could easily surf on if I wanted I would end up on a real computer to use Google or just general internet usage. Now I find myself using the iPhone to Google or whatever in Safari while I watch TV when something pops up that I want info on. I could just pick up my remote and wake my Mac mini hooked up to my plasma and use a full fledged browser and full wireless keyboard sitting on the coffee table but I don't, I just use the iPhone most of the time. I knew I was going to use the iPhone's browser on the road but I am kinda shocked how much I use it around the house and office when I have access to PC's and Mac's.

Maybe iPhone owners tend to be lost more often & constantly searching for the meaning of life?

The iPhone is making more and more individuals even lazier than they already are, especially if you have wifi hooked up. Lol. Yes, I was one of them, not anymore though.

Anything that can make Google double and triple checks it's results before releasing them is VERY big.
