has anyone had a problem with a clicking sound while talking on the MOTO Q?

Can you be a little more specific about the clicking sound? Where is it coming from on the phone? Is it present only during a call or all the time?

I have noticed it during calls... more of like a popping sound that comes from the earpiece while in an active call

Well, if it's happening randomly during the call instead of a fast, steady clicking sound, it could be the phone switching from one tower site to another or the conversation switching from 850 MHz up to 1900 MHz or vise versa on the same tower site.

Case in point: I have a dual band cell repeater in my home. Most calls I make utilize 850 MHz as the closest site is a couple of miles away. If, however, I stand very close to the repeater it will jump the call up to 1900 MHz as most handsets are programmed to use 1900 MHz by default on AT&T if the signal is good enough. When the transition occurs, I hear a "pop" or "click". Since I don't need to move far for the 1900 MHz signal to take a hit, while standing in my kitchen the hop between bands can happen many times in the course of one minute and each time it takes place I hear the popping sound in the earpiece.

Ok, acedj... that is what is happening... how do you fix it?

Good question! There is a way to force the phone to use GSM instead of 3G and vice versa, but I have yet to find a way to force the phone to use either 850 MHz or 1900 MHz which would have to be done in order to solve the issue. I believe AT&T programs their phone to give the 1900 MHz band priority over 850 MHz as there is more available bandwidth on 1900 than 850 for conversations. Because of this, if your phone is working just fine on 850 and the phone decides that a 1900 signal is present and usable...it will switch the conversation to 1900 until the signal falls below a certain level and then it dumps you back to 850.

Again, if we can find a way to force the phone to use either 850 or 1900, the only other way to stop this from happening is to operate the phone where the 850 signal is very high and the 1900 is either very low or non existant.

I go rural sometimes, will that effect my ability to use an older tower?

pdxrealtor,

Which band have you tried in order to be rid of that click/pop sound? I have the same thing at home and it is driving me mad. My signal jumps from one side of the couch to the other....couch isnt that big. In a half an hour conversation I can hear up to 30 pops. Right now I have mine on 3g - gsm but I havent placed any calls yet.

If you can please let me know which one works best for you that would be great.

Thanks,
John
