ZiPhone Question - Need help :)

Hi, I am new to iPhone, I am recieving my new 16gb tomorrow and I have some questions regarding ZiPhone
I read that it will downgrade my BL to 3.9 if I unlock it using the Ziphone and that people are warning that it will not ever upgrade the BL again. Is there any other way to unlock the 16gb without downgrading the BL to 3.9
