No problems currently, but my brother is working in Italy for a few months and purchased his first mobile phone, ever. Despite his being trained in electronics, as I am, he asked me some very simple questions, which I answered.
He bought a Sagem phone on Vodafone. He had no idea about SIMs, payment cards, etc. I hope I steered him right so he keeps his account current.
He may be moving on the same job to another European country this Summer, as yet unspecified. Anything I should prepare him for in transfering the phone to a new local number? Should he stay with Vodafone, or is that necessarily the simplest?
My brother isn't asking these questions yet, but I enjoy talking about these subjects. I wrote a friend I correspond with in the UK about my brother's phone, but I guess it was too far off subject for him. He never answered, but I know he travels in Europe with a Virgin Mobile.

well, Vodafone it is ok in Italy, very good coverage, in order to keep in sim alive he need to recarge the sim every 11 months. Anywhere he will go in Europe vodafone will work, but it is better for him to get a new pay as you go sim card wherever country in Europe he will be living, it is just cheaper than paying roaming charges...
I have a Vodafone Italy sim card and a 3 Italy sim card to use when I go back to my home in Rome once every while...
Vodafone is way more costly than 3 when you call from Italy to the US.
3 Italy has a plan for 15 Euro at months for unlimited calls to the US

Federico, thank you! He hasn't tried to call the US to my knowledge, but it is hard to pry e-mail out of him. He got the phone because he was using his apartment for an office part of the time, so his employer could call him. I haven't tried calling him, but I did send him an SMS text message, which he replied to. Both directions on GoPhone cost me US$0.15, although sending to Europe should have been 0.25. He hasn't answered the e-mail where I asked him how much those messages cost him. He is in a city north of Venice.
I see you are in Valencia California. I am in Northern California and my brother normally lives elsewhere here, but another brother is living in his home. When I last lived in your area of Calif. 50 plus years ago, there was no Valencia, just the highway junction from Newhall with a restaurant and two gas stations. I was in the Boy Scouts in San Fernando and we had two WWII surplus field telephones, which was as exciting as it got in telephony then.
