WIFI signal strength

Hi all...
My Wifi signal seems to be acting strange..I can be in the same room with the wireless router and it only shows 1 bar...
If I go to airplane mode and switch back it will go to full signal but it will go back down...and back up again...shouldnt it be full at all times esp when you are 5 feet away from the router..??
A coworker has a unlocked jailbroken 1.12 phone and we set them side by side....Both phones were not in a case...He had a full signal where mine was at half...
I have had my iphone for about a month...Soon as I got it, I put the new 1.13 firmware on it not trying 1.12..

I think it has been stated on the web that 1.1.3 has done something to make people drop calls unlike before, and the signal to fluctuate at least on Edge, so I would imagine the same probably goes for WIFI too.
