Out of Box 1.1.3 and Google Map Locate

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hi Guys,

Here is my issue.. I had 8GB iPhone and got it updated and all good stuff all the way upto 1.1.3, and also then updated the baseband, and Modem Firmware was upto 04.03.13_G

and Google maps worked great with that without Navizon & Locate ME

... NOW HERE IS THE REST OF THE STORY ...

I bought a 16GB 1.1.3 iPHone and Unlocked it using i.unlock.no GUI

& I unlocked it and jailbreak it stuff etc...

Now, if I go to Settings -> General -> About and see the Modem Firmware it says 04.02.13_G..

What's up here?

And Google Maps Locate doesn't work at all

Thanks Guys

yeah that's quit right...cause the BL4.6 software unlock now is for 4.02 baseband only...that's mean if u have an OTB 1.1.3, the unlock will downgrade ur baseband, Activate, Jailbreak then Unlock the 4.02

so u need to use Locate Me and Navizon for the time being....

but if u have BL3.9 iPhone...u can have the baseband 4.03 unlocked....

there is now an option to downgrade ur BL from 4.6 to 3.9 and have the 4.03 baseband unlocked but I don't think it worth...just stick with 4.02 until the 4.03 get unlocked on 4.6BL

sure thing BL = BootLoader.

Thanks man... I just downgraded my bootload ... and boy I love Google Maps

good for you...I don't know why I'm afraid to do so

im wayyy to scared to downgrade my boatloader..to many horror stories lol

Posted by: kamranwpi

Just do it!

I personally wouldn't recommend downgrading the bootloader. Once you're in 3.9, you can no longer (as of now) upgrade back to 4.6. Which might restrict you from loading GeoHot's custom bootloader that he is developing, or Apple's future bootloaders or updates.

Google Maps location feature can be fixed easily by activating LocateMe or Navizon once after every restart.

I don't think I will downgrade my BL now...everything is working with my 4.6

I also agree. Besides the Google Maps issue (which is solved easily by using Navizon or Locate Me) 4.6 really has no issues. I personally wouldn't risk downgrading and being stuck on 3.9 for an unkown amount of time...

exactly.... and I have Navizon and LocateMe installed...even I'm not using this feature alot

well, i have an upgraded and unlocked 1.1.3 (originaly OOTB 1.1.2) and still the baseband is 04.02.13_G

how do i go 04.03.13_G unlocked?

Its Google Maps not Google GPS.

I did my first locate me and it put me at (dropped pin) my old address I used to live at 14 months ago. I am only using a pay as you go rogers sim, so I don't know how it knew, but kinda weirded me out.

What is the big deal about Locate me or Google find me feature ? How is it usefull? It's off all the time by miles, it can't be used as gps, so when would one use it?

It's highly accurate if your in an area covered by Skyhook's wifi database. Around San Antonio, it can lock me down to within about 50 yards every time.

Currently, there is no method to "unlock" the 4.6BL. You probably have to wait till a new firmware version is out!

Posted by: Imahottguy

You currently need to downgrade the BL to 3.9 to get the new BB unlocked. You can have the 1.1.2 BB unlocked with BL 4.6, but then Google LocateMe won't work properly. I have AT&T, so I really don't care much lol. But really though, all one needs is Navizon installed, and have it run after every reboot. That's not that bad, considering the chance of a nonrevivable brick that is the risk of downgrading the BL.

Although its not as useful as a GPS it can come in handy in certain cases. Once you hit the locate me button and it finds your approximate location, you can then get driving directions to anywhere you'd like, you can view them turn by turn as you drive or you can just see a summary of your entire route ...

I live in a metropolitan area (probably helps) and its always been within less than half a mile in accuracy (even with only only one or two bars of signal..).

Also, Navizon GPS's add on bar has an option to kind of use the locate me feature as a GPS, where it will updates your location every 5 seconds or something. I haven't really tried using this feature but just thought I'd mention that its there..

In the end the locate me feature is a nice addition to an already nice Maps program..

Probably when someone is desperately lost and figures it's better than nothing. I only checked it out at a couple of places. At work, it had my location nailed to the exact block. But at home, it was 45 fricking miles off... yes, wrong city, and not even a neighboring city.

45 miles off...That's my point, you might as well be lost. Don't get me wrong, i love the Iphone, but i keep reading all the threads about new updates and i hear people get exited about these features like "wiggling icons, locate me, sms to more than 1 person" almost any cell phone these days has simillar or better functions. Thanx god i have jb phone with 3rd party apps. I'm surprised that takes Apple that long to release something worth while updating to. From everything i read, there is no real reason to update from 1.1.1 since everything works 100%

it's really the same question in the first post in this thread which answered in the 2nd post!

If you get Navizon, it auto-updates every 10 seconds. So it's somewhat useful when travelling on the highway.
