Moto Q9h and MAC, internet sharing?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have been using my Moto Q9h very successfully to tether my windows laptop to the internet using Internet Sharing. Works great, and I did not have to sign up for modem tethering on ATT. Just the regular web.

Now I am buying a MAC Air. Anyone currently tethering their smartphone with a MAC?

Thanks!

Take a minute and seriously compare the MacBook Pro and the MacBook Air. For the cost and features, the MacBook Pro is a stunning leap in value. The MBA is beautiful to look at but not a great value.

At its thick point, the MBA is .73 inches. The MBP is 1.0 inch. While the MBP weighs more, it also has a user-replaceable battery, a better keyboard and a larger screen. All in all the MBA is an expensive toy laptop.

I am not anti-Mac (typing on a MBP right now) but I am anti MBA.

Zeke,

Glad to hear you got it working. Are you using a bluetooth connection, or the USB cable? I just tried using your settings using a Bluetooth connection. There is a setting, a blank box for "APN." What do you put there? I left it blank, but it seems my phone crashes and requires a hard reset, (remove battery,) in order to start again. I am using the Att version of the phone.

If you don't mind, could you walk me through each and every setting and screen?

Thanks a bunch!

p.s. I am now using a new Macbook Pro. I returned the AIR. Beautiful device, but screen was a little small for my needs.

APN IS : isp.cingular

Is that supposed to be in caps? I tried it both ways. I see it attempt to authenticate, then it disconnects. After a couple of attempts my phone shuts down.

I don't know what the deal is. I signed up two days ago for broadband connect, got the Globetrotter card, (free after rebate,) and service costs $60 a month. I was hoping I could save myself 60 bucks a month.

I will say though that the broadband connect is VERY fast, like my cable connection.

Yes, I'm with ATT. I have paired the phone. When I use your settings, I get in teh menu bar, "Connecting" then it says Authenticating, then it it says, Disconnecting. It disconnects from the network. Try again, and then the phone locks up.

I'm glad I'm not the only one here...

I cannot for the life of me get my MacBookPro to connect (and stay connected) via BT and use my Q as a modem.

I haven't tried the USB cable, but I'll give that a try tonight if I can.

I was on my 3rd beer when I got the answer I decided to look around and pass around the knowledge. I just got my macbook and it works great.

Here is the kicker, it still locks the phone up but, it does that on the windows side too, so its the phone and not the computer.

Passing around the mac knowledge.

Yeah you can buy me a beer if your in phoenix.

Jason.

Jason I am glad you have it working but what we really need to do is to use bluetooth pan and the speed will increase about 5 times faster . The problem is that ATT MOTO Q9H does not have the bluetooth pan setting in the internet connect setting it is only set for usb connect which cannot be used with the mac. The crazy thing is the Moto q for sprint and Verizon have the bluetooth pan in there. THANKS AGAIN AT&T for nothing! verison

But your not going to see an increase in speed from the bluetooth pan internet. When I have used thethering and bluetooth with the same result. No speed increase, on windows and mac.

But hey, let me see if I can find someone with the version or sprint phone that could give us the program. Its the same across the board if we could get it for our phones it would work.

Well, I'm waiting for a response!!!
