WiFi connection procedure

I hope there is some way to get around this... the only way I have found to re-connect to my router is to reboot the router. Once its connected its as solid as a rock, very stable and fast. But if I turn my phone off or go out and come back so that its lost its connection, the only way to reconnect is to reboot the router. What do I need to do to avoid this procedure? I would like for it to reconnect automatically (without user input) every time I get back within range of my router.
