ATT Capacity Upgrade DFW???

I was just using my N95-3 on ATT's edge network and I noticed that pages were loading insanely quickly, I mean much faster than the usual HSDPA connection. So I went to DSL reports mobile speed test and the 1mb file downloaded in 2.614s and no the file was not locally cached. That's roughly 3.3mbit.. impossible I would say. I repeated the test several times and the slowest result was 1.3mbit. The edge connectivity icon was active and I never have a 3g signal in that part of the house.

Did ATT just perform an upgrade or was this just an anomaly??

keep trying it, see what your results are.

They may have upgraded your area to 3.6Mbps HSDPA and increased upload speeds. I think somebody mentioned parts of Florida also received this upgrade

you sure you had an EDGE connection and not 3.5G? maybe the phone had wifi turned on perhaps? my last guess, if you were using opera mini, the dslreports test will give crazy high results which are not accurate, since it tests the opera server speed and not the phone speed.

You're correct, I was using Opera mini... however it still has to transfer the data over the wireless interface. I was definitely using edge as WIFI was disabled. Perhaps the opera proxy server is on ATT backbone? Perhaps the protocol running over the Opera "socket" is that more efficient?

Anybody know what protocol runs over the socket between the opera mini client and the proxy server? It seems to efficient to be HTTP.

Opera Mini uses a proxy server so the speed result would be that of the speed between dslreports and the opera proxy server.
