I have a blackberry 8800 from cingular and have been craving a i phone ever since they have came out, However i do alot of texting (3000 a month) and alot of emails. With my blackberry i love the key board. I am afraid that i will never get used to the i phone's touch key board. Have any of you went from Blackberry to Iphone?? Any thoughts? I am about to pull the trigger on a I phone BTW TIA -Rob

It's a subjective matter. No one can tell you if you'll like typing on the iPhone. There isn't even a universal agreement on which BB has the best keyboard.

Get the iPhone, give it a spin and decide before your window to return it lapses.

I have played with the iphone at length and also am a BlackBerry user. I could never get comfortable with the iphone keyboard. Along with the touch screen the board is cramped in my opinion. If you have small fingers it may not be an issue. I am one of those who really wanted an iphone, but it's not going to happen.

Everone I've talked to who has switched to an iphone from a pearl or curve AND was a major email/text user has returned to the blackberry device. I too was tempted but am looking at getting a ipod touch to satisfy my need since it's everything minus the phone part.....

Go to your local ATT store and they will let you play all you want.

I used one for two days and if you have got to deal with alot of email, you will be trading your iphone back for your Blackberry.

I do use the iPod Touch daily and love it! But not for email!

I own both. 8 gig iphone and the blackberry curve. My iphone is sitting on my dresser collecting dust. The iphone is an ipod first and it seems like putting a phone in it was an after thought. I'm alot happier with my curve.

I have to load my in-laws iPhone all the time and have tried to use it on many occations.

I really thought about it when they came out but after using one I'm really glad to have my Pearl2.

There one cool thing about the iPhone and that is the multi touch screen. As far as I know they are the only ones with that. After that there is not much on the phone that I like.

You can't change much on it. There is not that many options for it.

I too have played with the iPhone and while it has the "cool factor", I send about 5000-6000 a month and a screen keyboard just wouldnt cut it for me.

I also own both, but I still after 6 months of on and off again iPhone use DON"T like the virtual keyboard. The keyboard on the new tiny Palm Centro is better than the iPhone! Also, It guesses the wrong word half the time, and the print is so tiny on SMS that I send it with errors.

but of course this IS the blackberry forums, why would you expect a different type of reply. I agree though the berries are better, and thats WHY we're on the bb forums, because they are better

Go to an Apple store and type an sms with the iphone, the keyboard is really bad.

i work for at&t and I switched from the Curve to the iPhone because my curve broke and my stupid company didnt want to replace it. After 3 months, after hacking it, after playing with it, I hated the keyboard. I recently switched back to a curve (8310) and I love it. The only thing good about the iPhone is if you wanted to watch widescreen porn. Otherwise its just an expensive toy for people to flaunt to prove some status among society.

Posted by: panasummer

I had an iPhone before I had my Curve. I absolutely loved the keyboard.. Don't listen to anybody that says it is bad if you have big fingers, cause I have huge fingertips and I typed faster on the iphone than I have on any other keypad. I actually forget that the curve doesn't automatically correct me like the iphone does. It'll take a day or two to get used to the iphone, but once you learn it, it's a breeze.

I have both. I really find myself using my BlackBerry more. I am not ready to give up the iPhone yet. But I really haven't found myself needing to pick it up and use it.

I am no iPhone hater. I would have no problem going back to it. But so far my BlackBerry is an instinctual choice to stay productive. Go figure.

iPhone=$600=Bathroom internet browsing
BlackBerry=$150=Productivity

Since you are no doubt a cell phone addict....err...hobbist. Then you probably won't be happy til you have an iPhone. Here is my tip. Find a way to keep both.

Honestly, if you want it that bad you'll always regret not trying it out. So give it a run...

Posted by: ChrisMc73

Are you expecting it to work with a corporate email system?
I had issues there, we use Lotus Notes, and are very anal and secure with email.
iPhone wouldn't cut it, yet...some stuff is coming now for Lotus Notes, but its all future, anyway, I had the iPhone, went back to the BB Curve, it just works well.

The iPhone is coming along, but not ready for my business/personal needs all in one.

I agree with The Champ, do like I did and get the iPhone and use it for a few days. You will want to return it WAY BEFORE the trial time is over! It only took me two days and I was crying!

Do not get me wrong, the iPhone is a nice device but if you GOT to do any amount of typing, the iPhone keyboard SUX. No matter how long I tried I keyed in the wrong letters too often. AND the iPhone does NOT pick the right word when I made a mistake! A piece of glass with no tactile feedback makes for a crappy keyboard!

I agree. I am back (again...) to my BB 8310 after yet another "trial" of the iPhone (3-weeks ago), mainly because I bought one stupid-cheap on Craigslist and couldn't pass it up. but...

After three days...I finally got the "taste" for the iPhone and it's non-tactile virtual keyboard out of my mouth. I remembered why I got rid of the iPhone the last time I had one...

The poster that said the iPhone was simply a glorified iPod, hit the nail on the proverbial head. It is a very cool device...but for real-world performance as a mobile communication device, it blows compared to the BlackBerry.

But...don't take our words for it...

I can still remember how sweet it was seeing "EDGE" pop up on my 8820! I was back!

thats basically what i want to hear!

I switched from a 8830 to an iPhone. I lasted 3 months but that was mainly because of the investment. I accidently dropped it in the toilet thus needing to get another device. I went with the Curve 8310. That was a week ago, I have not regretted it one bit. When I originally switched to the iPhone I would find myself looking for BB features that weren't there. I have not had the urge one bit to use an iPhone app since switching back.

Thing is, if I had never gone with the iPhone I might still be wondering. It may be one of those things you have to find out about on your own.

I had an iphone and now have a curve. Curve is better for e-mail and GPS...but i liked texting on the iphone. I got used to it and could punch out 145 character texts faster on it than i can on my curve with minimal spelling errors.

Im actually going to get another iphone to use back and forth with my blackberry

I've only been using the BB for a couple of yrs from the 8700 to 8800, 8310 to 8820 now. I have never been a fan of a touch screen because I need tactile feedback. Never had an interest in the iphone, but there's always that cool factor associated with it. I need my emails in real time, so I know I can never have the iphone as my only phone, so I went out to get the ipod touch. I am more than thrilled to not get the iphone. Being the keyboard is the exact same on the ipod touch vs. the iphone, I don't like typing on it one bit. But it seems that the OP will always wonder about the iphone. My advice, go out and get one to satisfy your curiosity or you'll always be left wondering if you made the right decision sticking with the BB.

Well i own a small business and have a website i use that email adress from my website alot for incomming emails questions orders etc! So i really hate to loose the feature of instant push email, A 5 minute wait wouldnt kill me though as it takes that and some times more to get on my bb. Will my website email work well with the i phone??

I had an iphone and I'm now ready to buy a BB--I just prefer the typing experience much more--add that with the ability to add apps and it's golden.

I dont think it's THAT bad. Its a matter of preference. The interesting thing about the iphone is that it reminds me of SureType....as in, if you look at the screen while you're typing, it feels weird because its constantly guessing what you mean. However, if you just start typing, it REALLY does figure it all out and work great. I was VERY surprised at how quickly the iPhone keypad adapted to my fingers (i've got sausages attached to my wrist).

It's not horrible...but not nearly as effective for double-thumb typing as a tactile keypad. The vast majority of people I see typing on their iPhones do it with either a single index finger or thumb...and do it at a "hunt & peck" pace, compared to the much faster typing speed I see from people using their BlackBerrys or other full-qwerty tactile-keypad phones.

The BB is not perfect either, IMO. My thumbs are relatively small, and the keys on my Curve are a little too tiny for my preference. But, they are very useable and not a huge issue. To make them bigger would make the device larger...and that's not a compromise I would choose to make.

The iPhone doesn't poll email in 5 minute intervals. The shortest is 15. As had been said before, if you're concerned about email, there is nothing to equal the BB.

If you're using it to text you will never be happy. Forget the keyboards. Touchscreen or tactile keys isn't the issue. Yes IMO the BB keyboard makes for fastwer typing, but the iPhone isn't bad. The real issue, for me, is the messaging system itself.

The iPhone texting system is archaic at best. You have no copy/paste, limited forwarding capability, no MMS.

If I can offer a suggestion: Since it seems you'd like to swap out your 8800, why not consider a Curve and to satisfy your iPhantasies get yourself aniPod Touch? You'll have all the best features of the iPhone without it's handicaps for your business.
