Saw this when I logged on today...

http://www.sprint.com/activate

Basically it's for anyone on Ensemble - but now they're advertising it pretty well...which is good...it's the same thing we saw when you logged in...but now it's like this...

I noticed it being advertised on the front page of Sprint.com earlier. Nice.

I wonder if this means that people on employee accounts can switch phones anytime as well. I hate having to go through the EDRP line to get anything done.

Posted by: Ultimo119

Should be able to

Posted by: mindfrost82

Does it still require that you chat with a rep?

Posted by: rustyram02

no chat required at least for me

Posted by: Gottaname

cost anything?

Posted by: Its_Miller_Time

...free...

Posted by: Chinasaur

So they are finally giving back to self-activate that they took away in 2003/2004? Does this mean that the activation fee will be recinded?

Posted by: Its_Miller_Time

There was never a fee to activate a used phone...Chinasaur...if that is what you're referencing...

When I left in 2005..they were just starting to charge to change handsets..even if I purchased my phone with no subsidy. There used to be a link on the old Sprint site to change your ESN online. They removed it prior to implementing the 'activation' charge. I purchased a new handset outright/without subsidy and CS would NOT waive the "new handset" activation charge. So I left due to that and poor CS.

I asked because I'm interested in coming back to Sprint as I always loved the call quality and coverage... just not that lame ESN change charge..and the CS.

Thanks.

Most reps I've had experience with will waive the activation fee. You can always try going to a store, I've had those reps waive it too.

Sprint will charge an activation fee whenever you activate a phone that has never been activated (i.e. a brand new phone) on the network, whether you use your instant savings or buy it at full retail. It's free still to swap into a USED phone (i.e. a phone that has been activated once before on the same, or another account). Sprint does give existing subscribers a discount of 50% off the activation fee for all situations requiring it (bringing it down from $36 to $18).

cool, so I had a another used PDA I could just activate it and I'd be good? what if it's a different phone like say I activate an unlocked 8525 it will function with data and everything with my sero plan?

Thanks Vdubb! That's a shame

I've put three new phones on my accounts in the last year and have never been charged an activation fee. The only time I've ever been charged was when I was setting a new line. - sheureka

Yeah I agree... been through 4 or 5 brand new phones since 03/04 and have never been charged the fee. They have mentioned the fee "Usually there is an $18 fee, but I'll make sure that's waived for you" or something along those lines--but I've never had to ask. Maybe it's something that Sprint officially has, but they never enforce it/don't really care about it?

Also, Sprint seems to always waive the fee if you purchase a new handset from sprint.com.

Ok at first you had to have picture mail to upload pics or email them. About 1yr ago I got rid of the Picture Mail but could still upload pics and login at pictures.sprintpcs.com and see the uploaded pics.

Now today I get a text message saying I have 8 pics in my picturemail and that I need to order picturemail service to keep them from being deleted. What gives is my $150/month not enough?

Many customers with non-Picture Mail devices (Blackberry, Motorola Q/Q9c, HTC Mogul, Touch, PPC6700, etc) had Picture Mail access, even though the devices don't use Picture Mail. It seems that glitch has been fixed (Office Space style) sometime in the last few days. I got a call from one of my Blackberry customers about it today and I've had several other customers get that message in the last week.

Not to bump up an older thread, but instead of creating a new topic I thought I'd ask here. The question I had was: Will I be able to do do an ESN swap online (Sprint.com/activate) while still being on P2K? If so, will there be any sort of activation fee for doing so? I'm an existing customer activating a previously activated phone; and from reading the previous posts I'm uncertain to whether or not I would be charged any fees. Surprisingly, I haven't been switched to Ensemble yet and might need to change phones before then. Thanks for the help!

No, the online swap tool is only for CDMA accounts that have been established in or converted to Ensemble.

So who's gonna be the test dummy on this one? I'm curious to see how it works, including programming instructions.

Posted by: Its_Miller_Time

I am curious if this would work from Nextel to Nextel...because I see where its says to enter the IMEI/SIM of the new device and only Nextel uses the IMEI/SIM of the two...so...who wants to try it out...

Every time I've tried to use it, it *hasn't* worked. It's thrown me into a chat session to have a live person do the swap (and even they don't know how to do 99% of the stuff they should).

Posted by: hasan84

hasnt worked for me either.

Posted by: Calisoldier83

I was able to swap to a k1m from my touch. Now I can't swap back to my touch.
