Attention ZiPhone 2.4 Users w/ BL4.6

All you hackers who are looking to use ZiPhone to unlock your BL4.6 may want to stick with v2.3 if you don't want your bootloaders downgraded to BL3.9. I'm hearing numerous reports of automatic bootloader downgrades (albeit successful ones) when using -j -a -u.

bl 3.9 is a good thing, unless said person then needs warranty work - and then Apple can tell it was modded - with no way to get back to 4.6

Posted by: fast_car

I have an old 8gb from 1.0.2 and upgrade to 1.1.3, use ziphone run -a -u -j, now my baseband is 4.03.13_G, I assume BL still 3.9

so I just got the 16GB with 1.1.3 and possible BL 4.6 s/n stat with 88805ABCDF and base band 4.03.13_G, if I run Ziphone -a -u -j, will I still have the baseband at 4.03.13_G or Ziphone roll back to 4.02.13_G

Reason I ask because 4.02.13_G does not work in some apps like map/etc

Should I down load the BL to 3.9 so I can get 4.03.13_G ?

Please advice

Thanks

If after unlocking, your firmware is 4.02.13, then you're running 4.6 bootloader. If you're running 4.03.13 after unlocking, then you're most likely running 3.9

There's reports saying if you downgrade to 3.9, there's currently no way to upgrade back to 4.6, so it really depends on what Apple will release in the future that is only 4.6 compatible

To get location working for Google maps on 4.6, install Navizon or Locateme. Then have either app locate you on the map. You'll then be able to use Google's location feature. This is a work-around. If all you need is Google's location feature, then use this. There's no real need to downgrade to 3.9 especially if the downgrade process screws up, you have a permanent iPhone brick.

I have heard that doing ziphone -Z -Y or -Z -N is what is resulting in the bootloader downgrade without really wanting it. I guess these commands are ones that are suppose to run -j -a -u all in one for "noobs" or whatever.

I just downgraded the bootloader on my recently acquired 16 GIG. It went off without a hitch! I did use ZiPhone version 2.4, but I did all the steps manually, I did not do the automatic one.

I thought according to zibri, everything that ziphone does could be undone! I downgraded my 16 gig 4.6 also just b/c I thought it would be more compatible. Now I can't get the customize app to work. Can anybody help me get it working.

Posted by: success2be

ZiPhone is a great unlock tool but Zibri needs to slow down his releases and do better QA testing of his software or he needs his own team of beta testers for his app and documentation.

His blog says ZiPhone never broke any iPhone, but his early 2.0 releases had a bug where if you delete the ZiPhone icon, it will brick your iPhone because of a file permission error during the unlocking process. So I guess technically ZiPhone never broke an iPhone, it was only because the user deleted the ZiPhone icon, that their iPhone broke, therefore to him it was the user's fault; not his.

So, the latest and greatest from Zibri may not be the best. 2.4 adds the Z and Y switches, but its hardly easier than typing -a -j -u than before.

Version 1.0 installed a few 3rd party tools in the Install.app, but they don't appear on the Home screen. They only appear in the installer app. When you try to uninstall those "invisible" apps, Installer gives an error. Version 2.3 seemed to have fixed this issue only showing Installer as the only installed app within installer.app

So when a new ZiPhone gets released, you don't need to get it. Wait and see what others are saying about it on the forums.

add the source http://touchrepo.com/repo.xml, and install the modified version of customize.

If you just us -j and use AnySIM for the unlock, would it still downgrade the baseband

Posted by: fast_car

I also see Ziphone version 3.0 and 3.1, what is the benefit of these new version

I still can not find any instruction should I restore the OTB 16GB to 1.1.3 prior to run Ziphone -a -u -j

I will keep the 4.6BL and baseband 4.02.13_G roll back after run Ziphone

This just for the safe side if there is warranty issue with Apple

BTW, which version does not give you the Ziphone icon

Thanks

I used ziphone 2.2 to unlock my week 25 phone. Does the ziphone icon bug affect version 2.2? I still have the ziphone icon on my phone but could there be potential problems if I were to delete it?

Posted by: Gilbertb11

I've been searching and searching and searching for a conclusive answer as to which version will not automatically downgrade my BL to 3.9. Beyond what version, also, which options to run. Let me know if you have any answers to these questions. Thanks.

Posted by: Drakkhen

Anything before v2.4 of ziphone is fine...

Run -j -a -u - you will end up with the older baseband though.

-b will downgrade your baseband...

Posted by: G4seb

And some people broke their wifi, ringtone sound and bluetooth...

Posted by: Syous

I just used 2.4 yesterday. I don't mean to be a knit picker here but if you used

-Z Y It will downgrade BL, keep the same baseband, activate, jailbreak and unlock

-Z N I can't remember right now, I think it was about restoring

-Z A Goes to advanced options that will show each individual letter (ie. -a -j -u -b -D etc..) This is where you can select what you want.

I went to -Z A and then -a -j -u and I had an unlocked 4.6BL with 4.02BB, I then just downloaded Navizon, made an account. Then google locate me worked fine.

Zibri said something like, the people who broke wifi/bt/ring tone etc... all came from upgrading from 1.1.2 to 1.1.3. I personally think that is true, but they chose to keep the same settings in iTunes (ie. the same phone profile instead of a new one) and everything broke.

Sorry, but no...i know 2 person's on Belgium-iphone, who don't choose the same setting in itunes. At the begining the iphone are in 1.1.2 BL4.6 OTB. All functionnality with X-Sim.And after ziphone, the 2 phone are no wifi, no ringtones for call in sleep mode, no bluetooth...They try to re-flesh in DFU or not again and again, pass in 1.02 + virginized but nothing.
At this time there are already the problem...so???

Posted by: G4seb

Aïe aïe sorry...in fact the 2 persons choose to keep the same setting in itunes..
But now after re trying, the same problem with "new iPhone" in iTunes...

Confirmed, I just ran the Ziphone 2.4 GUI and deliberately UNchecked the downgrade, but it downgraded anyway (saw it on the terminal output on the iphone during the process, plus now have 4.03.13)

I can confirm that when checking just the jailbreak, unlock, and activate options in ZiPhone 2.4, your 4.6 BL will not be downgraded. I've done it several times now and my BL is stil at 4.02.13(4.6BL). Additionally, I don't think it makes a difference but I used the command prompt version, not the GUI. It should be the same thing if you use the GUI though, since the GUI simply points to the individual bat files within the ZiPhone folder...

As someone pointed out earlier, after doing this the only "so called" issue is the Google Maps "Current Location" feature, which is easily solved by installing and running Navizon GPS or Locate Me. After this the Current Location feature works perfectly...

As others have alerted, there IS some kind of gremlin in the 2.4 GUI version; I deliberately UNCHECKED the "downgrade BL" option (or however it's expressed) and it downgraded to 3.9 nonetheless. I went from 4.6 to 3.9, no question. It may not happen every time, but it happens. Now my phone has some kind of wifi bug that prevents downloads from completing in Installer. Safari now works fine (after a bunch of tweaking and forgetting) but Installer ***** the bed on every d/l attempt regardless of filesize. I get the infernal "Error - Package download failed!" Pain in the ***.

i dont think that is because of your wifi. have you tried clearing your queue? refreshing your sources?

Posted by: alphasports

Bizarre, works all of a sudden after about 50 attempts to refresh sources...oh well, I'm happy now! Thanks all

I've done 4 16GB phones in the past day and a half an I uncheck downgrade BL, and it does not downgrade the bootloader. Using Ziphone 2.4 with GUI33.

Exactly the same problem I have. I have also did the stupid upgrade to 1.1.3 instead of restore and unlocked via ziphone 2.4 and now I`m stuck without wifi and BT and also no ring while in sleep mode. Anyone bumped to the solution? I`m getting desperate, I think I will sell my iPhone to spare parts...

I know this is for 2.4, but I had originally used the old method to jailbreak/activate my iphone to 1.1.3 (1.1.2 OTB) and it worked fine, but I wanted to restore and just used ziphone to unlock/jailbreak/activate my 1.1.3, but then yesterday used a DFU restore to go to 1.1.4 and then ziphone 2.5 to jailbreak/activate it and my google "locate" feature is working natively without Navizon or Locate me... i had to use these navizon 1.1.3, but that would be because it had downgraded me to BL 3.9, correct? If there is no way to go back to 4.6BL then how am I able to use it natively now on 1.1.4 after using a DFU restore with ziphone 2.5?

Jesus christ that sounds confusing... anyone get my drift though?

Anywhere to check my BL version? Like an app?

UPDATE: I downloaded BBINFO and i'm on 3.9.. hmm.. odd, considering the fact that my google maps locate works..

It's not odd, it makes perfect sense. Google maps locate works on the 3.9 BL because when you downgrade your BL to 3.9 it allows you to upgrade to 1.1.4 with the proper baseband. If you are on the BL 4.6 then your baseband is one behind or maybe even 2 behind. This breaks the google maps locate. At least this is what I have read in the forums here and other places.

Oh, so I'm getting BB and BL mixed up!

BB is the modem firmware, correct? Mine says 4.04 something something..which i guess is why it works..

either way, I don't care.. It works!
