Mobile Phone Reviews

No offense, but does the world REALLY need ANOTHER site like this?

*yawn*

Well, actually, yeah.

Different sites cover news differently and as such some things are favored on certain sites and other things are not. For example. I have yet to find a site that does competent review of non major party cell phones (the cheap chinese phones that are all over ebay, coverage of new companies like modu, etc.) You may not like that segment, but i am sure there is a group of readers that wouldn't mind some love / support in that area.

On this site alone a thread about the Starcom DV07 has over 13K views, for one cheaply made product with no advertising.

So yeah, the world can always use a new view about something. If you have all the coverage of all the things you care about in your life, I am very happy for you. Some of us, though, are still looking for a better option.

provide *real* photos of the phones/devices. I think I speak for a lot of people when i say that seeing a phone/device in someone's hand after they took it out of the box is much easier to relate to. Try adding short pic slideshows, and or videos too. Just some thoughts.

Exactly. There are thousands of sites that recycle the same news stories and give poorly-done reviews (blasting the phone because of a service provider issue and the use of poor spelling and grammar are my three biggest gripes with cell phone review sites); they use the same stock photographs, plagiarize other sites and forums, etc.

There's plenty of room for innovation in this area, but nobody's taking advantage of it. Until someone decides to do something different, every time someone comes on here saying they're starting up a new wireless information/reviews/forum/whatever site, I can't help but say "bah" and move on. It's happened at least three times in the last week. This is one of them.

Do I have cell phone reviews on my site? Absolutely. I'm a gadget lover and when I worked for RadioShack I used to do write-ups on all the phones as they came in and would pass them around to co-workers so they could get some insight on the new handsets. This was back when Phone Scoop was in its infancy and there were few to virtually no other sources of this sort of information. Eventually I scooped them all up and put them on my web site.

What really started it for me was a review I posted about the Verizon Samsung SCH-A310 a number of years ago. It went on Phone Scoop, and a lot of people saw it and began contacting me to ask questions about the phone, how to tweak it, and wanted me to make other personal recommendations for them.

For me, it was the interaction with the visitors I enjoyed.

Do I regularly review cell phones and do write-ups on them now? No. Did I ever make it a focus of my web site? No. I know I can produce a quality product (reviews) but don't have the inclination to stick with it. And that's one of two problems with a lot of the reviews sites out there now. One, they don't have the inclination, ability, or desire to truly produce a quality product (objective, accurate, presentable), and two, they don't know when to quit beating their dead horse.

That, sir, was already addressed:
