does anybody here know if there is a way to manually "wipe handheld." my pearl is really messed up...for some reason keys er and ty work as select buttons...so when i try going to general settings and selecting wipe handheld it asks to type the word blackberry once i get to the 'e' in blackberry it just accepts it and it says "handheld wipe has been cancelled." i don't even get a chance to type the whole word...so is there any other way of doing this???????

thanks

Thats the only way i know of doing it. My suggestion is pull the battery out of the phone, leave it out for like 30 seconds. Put it back, try again.

plug it into the bb desktop and do a restore (not as in restoring your contacts and stuff just the blackberry stuff)?

The OP knows this... if you read his/her post. He is having problems typing the word "blackberry" to confirm the wipe.

To the OP, sounds like you have a hardware issue of some sort. Did your BB get wet? If it is on a BES server, it can be wiped remotely via the BES administrator. I dont use BIS so I dont know if there is a similar functionality there.

Also, try password protecting your BB. Then enter the password 10 times incorrectly, that will wipe your BB as well.

If you have the javaloader on your machine you can use a command line and type in javaloader -usb wipe

It has been a while but I belive that is the right way. You can get the javaloader from the simulator package or a simple google search.
