I had the same problem. Have you tried changing your phones' PC Connection in Settings to Modem? Try that and click the "Find Phone" icon in BITPIM after you switch if it doesn't auto find your phone. Good Luck.

what kind of cable do i need to get?

Posted by: zizou417

You need to get a USB cable for the phone.

Download BitPim, plug in your phone [with USB set to Modem], and install the LG Phone drivers if your computer does not automatically find the drivers. Delete the ringtones out of the audios folder, and back them up to your computer.

Open up BitPim and click on view. Make sure there is a check next to "View Filesystem." If not, click on it to check it. Then, plug in the phone. It will not detect LG AX565, but will say "Other CDMA Phone on _________."

On the left hand side of BitPim, expand the folder Filesystem. Then click on dload and right click on "lg_mysound.dat" and back it up to your computer. Once you have backed the file up, delete it.

Now expand the folder brew and media and lk and finally click on ms. Then, open up the folder on your computer with your ringtone files, and drag them into the ms folder in BitPim. It will take about 30 seconds or so to add each file.

Once you have added all of your ringtones, unplug the phone from your computer, restart, and enjoy

I personally use Magix Ringtone Maker and save them in mp3 format. Audacity is great for cutting files though. Or try www.mobile17.com to create free ringtones.

you must have your phone turned off then it will detect it

Once you drag the ringtones to the correct folder on the phone, you don't need to send data. As long as they drag over, it means it is syncing.

Can I do the BitPim without the cable just copy it to my microSD card?

Posted by: Camillac1

Thanks SOOOO much Fival!!!!
I am a NOOB but with your detailed directions I now have MP3 ringtones on my phone!!! I didn't have any trouble at all. A few things others may need to know~~~

*For the total NOOB - If bitpim is does not see your phone then got to phone MENU-SETTINGS-PC CONNECTIONS and make sure your phone is set to USB Modem.

No. You have to use files on the phone. The microSD card will only let you store pictures and music and videos from your computer. Not ringtones.

Question - I got it to work once! Then i went back to add more songs everything the same as before but the songs didn't show up on the phone. They are over in the folder. I turned the phone off then back on and nothing?? Just the first one is in there. What cold be the prob? I checked the phone memory and it's full but I have an SD card and I have the phone set to save audio on the card. Any ideas??

The ringtones must be stored on the phone's memory. So you're gonna have to delete some files to make space. Also, you must go through the whole process in bitpim with deleting files off the phone, etc. each time you want to add new ringtones.

I followed all of the directions but only three of the 20 songs on my phone showed up in the folder.

Posted by: tiffanysince199

ok i got the new scoop, i downloaded bitpim but it says it doesnt detect it=[ , any other things i can do or how to make bitpim work??

Posted by: TAG2102

I downloaded BitPim on my Apple computer and the system says it will not detect my LG Scoop. On BitPim's website it shows that it does not support the LG Scoop aka. AX260. Is there any other way to get my own ringtones on my phone?

Posted by: reddmann

I'm with you, Tag. I've downloaded the latest version of bitpim. I've downloaded the driver that was suggested on this site. I have the pc connection of my phone set to usb modem. I got a rocketfish usb cable from bestbuy, and bitpim just wont detect this phone. It always worked with my old razr phone, and my computer showed that phone as a motorola usb modem. As far as I can tell, this phone isn't even showing up on the computer, much less being detected by bitpim. Any help for a newbie would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

i am havin the same problem with my phone what software do i need to use my usb cord

Posted by: luckydragon13

I have had the same problem on a Motorola Razor and my LG Scoop. After many phone calls and complaints, Motorola told me that Alltel was requiring this on all phones that Alltel sells. I contacted Alltel and was informed that they have done this due to the music industry's digital copyright laws. What a crock. Alltel just wants the income from selling ringtones.

Posted by: fickej

OK i have tried the whole bitpim thing and i couldn't get it to work alltel has the phone set up so that only DRM protected files can be used as ringtones. keep looking around there is a way to get them and if you are well endowed with the "knowledge" you should have no prob getting free ringtones. You still need the cable and a program and since i dont feel like doing everything i am going to let you find out what program. It is in the forums. Good luck hunting

SAME EXACT PROBLEM IM IN IM SO SICK OF THIS! WHY DOES TECH HAVE TO BE SO COMPLICATED?!?!

Posted by: wigglestheholy

You can use any mp3 and the phone is not blocked if you do it right just keep trying ive done it to probably 50 phones these instructions are flawless
