Helio credit question

Interesting thing happened. A week ago I went to an authorized dealer and ran a credit check. They told me I was fine and needed no deposit and were going to sell me an Ocean right there...

...except for I didn't have the cash. So today, when I finally have the cash, the dealer is closed on account of rain (outside mall here in SoCal). No biggie, I'll just go to the Helio store. I get there, and they run my credit and they want a $150 deposit fee.

What should I do guys?

Pay the fee if you want the phone. Everytime your credit gets checked it hurts your overall credit score. Good rule of thumb if your not buying whatever it is your looking at the same day don't run a credit app!

Better still, ask if there is an "application number", "approval number" or "pending account number." You should be able to get this 99% of the time regardless of what it is you're applying for. Bring that with you when you come back to buy it and there's no need to run the credit again. These are usually good for anywhere from 30 to 90 days depending on the service. I am not familiar with Helio so I can't speak for their practices specifically, but it's a good rule of thumb.

When I have a customer come in and request a credit check for Sprint service and they leave the store without buying a phone, I make 100% certain they leave with the credit application number, pending account number, and account security PIN, and educate them to hang on to that information and treat it like gold. Not just for security reasons, but because it's actually a headache for us to try to re-run credit on someone within 6 months of the last credit check.

or you can wait till "SmoothPay" comes out

no credit check
$150 prepayment (applied as credit to the bill)
no contract fee of $100

got wind of this from a friend of mine who works at the kiosk at the grove
