Using mp3 as ringtones

I cant figure out how to use my mp3's as a ringtone on my tilt
I saved the mp3's in my documents/my ringtones
I also saved them in application data/sounds
When I click on a contact and click edit
Go to the ringtones...they arent there!
Thanks for anybody who will help!
BTW I have searched and still cant figure it out!!!
