lol, except for pricing and date of availability

http://rapidshare.com/files/9359461...920_VU.rar.html

didnt have time for file hosting, sorry about the rapid share

Posted by: holodoctor1

VERY cool. Thank you!!!!

Posted by: holodoctor1

Woohhhhh, hang on a second... Is it just me, or is there NOTHING in this documentation about Mediaflo? Has ATT decided to scrub it for the VU???

Posted by: gammaguy

I think the documentation is for the 915. The 920 has mediaflo.

Posted by: holodoctor1

Ah, I see... are the 915 and the 920 expected to be released simultaneously?

Posted by: spicaly

cool thanks for posting

Posted by: shazeh

cool thanks for this. will att make you get a data plan with this if you want to get the subsidized price with rebates?

Posted by: DJ Justifier

Can someone please post the info from the file here on the board
for people (like me *lol*) who can't download RapidShare links?

Even if someone could just type whatever the importaint stuff is from there.

THANX!!!

most likely either a $20 unlimited text package or a unlimited medianet/pda plan

damn, i thought i read somewhere on here that this isnt being classified as a smart phone thus no data plan requirement.

Posted by: spicaly

thats prob to get a discount on the phone, i read it will be eligble for the cheaper unlimited data plan not the one required with smart phones

so that means if you dont get the data plan, you dont get rebates?

Cool. Thanks!

So I go to the AT&T store today and they told me that the LG VU (CU920)has already been released BUT they hadn't received any yet. (Of course living in Hawaii, everything takes twice as long to get here.) They told me to keep checking everyday as they'll be getting them soon. I inquired about the media plans for that phone and they showed me a laminated employee info paper that had all of the different plans. The VU was pictured on it but they consider it a smart phone so the plan is an additional $30/month. You will have to get a media plan if you want the $100 rebate also. Finally an end to the wait....

Hope this helps.....

Posted by: DJ Justifier

Even though no one granted my request to repost the info that was in the file on RapidShare because I can't download it
I have something for all the faithful followers of the LG VU/CU 915/920:
http://www.electronista.com/article...v.delay.reason/
(sorry if it doesn't come up as a link)

I am waiting for this phone with the same anticipation I [we all] had for the Nokia N75.
Rest assured, if and when an OFFICIAL date is announced, we will all know about it.

15MB compressed file.

A 2 page brochure listing all of the features. A 1 page card with pictures. 19MB / 136 page PDF of the user guide. 6MB powerpoint going over features and accessories and various pictures of the phone.

Any specific questions?

Phone Arena's not always right, as they have even said it themselves. Right now it's all speculation.

yeah they had the Vu out for "January" for some time. its just a guess.

Posted by: PointZero

Processor providing, I wonder if it would be able to adapt the Windows Mobile OS over to this phone. They both share similar hardware specs, but I guess it would come down to whether the drivers from the MS25 would work on this phone (or further adaptation of drivers from the KS20). That would make this phone far more appealing.

"We've already mentioned that the LG Vu is looking solid for a late March release after being held up (or so they say, anyway) to work through a few MediaFLO issues; we've now received independent confirmation that it's true -- assuming no more issues arise, of course"

From Engadgetmobile.com... good news!!!!

Posted by: dshort09

If they release it late march will it be the CU915 or the CU920. Doesn't one have mediaflo and the other doesn't?

Posted by: smartnewbie

If you are in a mediaflo market there will be CU920's in the stores. If you are NOT in a mediaflo market, the stores will receive the tv antenna-less CU915's.

If you're only concerned about the camera, form factor, and nothing that relates to the carrier (3g, online stores, im, etc.) then why not just buy the KU990 Viewty unlocked?

The KU990 is a tri-band and doesn't have 850MHZ. Not to mention US 3G.

Now the great dilemma. The TV CU920 or the tv less CU915.

Posted by: crabman

Just a thought but depending on the price difference I might be inclined to want the option of having the TV. The flash dealie that was posted showed that it could be enabled on a month by month basis on the phone itself while on the fly. I cant see myself using it on a regular basis but for traveling might be nice...

Posted by: dshort09

Oh you mean from the video? If the mediaflo has a option each month then i will definitely get it. Any higher ups know what the prices are or whats gonna be the price difference between the two models?

Nah, there was a link posted to a (I think?) java app that allowed you to push the buttons and what not. Among the things it showed was how to sign up for mediaflo by the month on the phone itself and it showed the charge as 15 bucks. Like I said I fly regular because I work in AK and I could see myself spending that 15 bucks while going back and forth. That of course is assuming that the functionality is as was shown. Edit... I found the link ---> http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/Upd...cle-a_2612.html I had to try a number of different browser sessions to get the thing to open but it finally did.

media flo is a feature that cant be added by your sales rep at pos. customers must activate it for themselves much like mobitv. the feature codes that are place on the acct start with mf. the other stuff is the channels of distrubution.

Posted by: kokeezy

so is media flo not going to take up data? can we just add media flo and no data without being charged for data?

I have 5MBs, but that would probably go quick with the flo if it does take data.

On my tv phone at least, the only time data is used is to update guide which most likely uses very little data. But to watch show's themselves, no data is used.

I saw that price point and I thought to myself, that LG better perform up to that price point. I know I used an LG Shine over a weekend once and wasn't all that thrilled with the software or the reception on it.

i thought they were out of their minds with that price point. i know 4/20 is around the corner but dang.

Previously the scoop was that the phone (with tv) would be 199 or less after rebate. I might think about it in that ballpark. Above that it probably wont be my next handset.

ATT gone crazy with these ridiculous prices. $350 for the LG Vu? Most people would just go and spend the extra $50 for the iPhone.

It's not even classified as a smartphone (can't install any programs) and they want to charge this much money.

I agree with lot of you guys. Most people probably won't touch this phone for any more than $250.

This phone will sell as well as the Motorola V9 (I think those are still priced around $300 without rebate but with a 2 year contract).

Unless the phone is the "it" phone, which the LG Vu is definitely not the "it" phone, no one outside of us phone junkies will even consider the phone

Now serious question. Would i be better off getting the Vu for the steep price or better off getting a tilt? The most sales they will probably be on 4/20 with the most returns a day afterwards lol.

Posted by: ubryaj

I'm also worried that this phone will be too close to iPhone pricing. The problem is, I refuse to buy an iPhone right now when it's been out this long. Maybe I'll stick with my idea of buying a cheap phone now and getting the updated iPhone later.

Posted by: anubis9278

lol...let me clear up something

on 4/20 means

the vu is 5/4

Posted by: calichik120

on yahoo the other day they had an article on the vu with others with a price of $299. but who knows whether that's true or not. that price would probably be reasonable for me.

Posted by: rton20s

I have to agree that $349 (CU920) / $299 (CU915) is too high a price point. Especially for the average consumer. Unless those consumers "have to have" the mobile TV, most will spring for the more trendy iPhone. I personally think even $299 on contract for the CU920 might even be a bit high.

At those high prices the Vu won't even be a consideration for me. And that means AT&T is most likely not even an option. I'd rather wait it out for the Dare (VX9700) on Verizon even if pricing was similar. Similar phone, slightly better specs, and a much better 3G network.

I wouldn't say much better 3G network, just have more area covered.

I like the look of LG phones but their software and performance as a phone leaves some things to be desired for me.

When I stated "much better 3G network" coverage is exactly what I was referring to. It wouldn't matter of AT&T's 3G was twice as fast, they do not have nearly the coverage as Verizon in my area.

I'm in Visalia, CA and Verizon has the whole valley covered for 3G access. The entire 99 corridor, as well as the Monterey Bay area where I travel to frequently. Compared to AT&T which has coverage in Fresno, Bakersfield and Monterey only. That leaves the entire rest of the 99 corridor (including my home town) without 3G.

And now there have been murmurs and rumors of 3G being launched where I live as a part of the expansion AT&T announced a couple months ago. But I do not consider the word of some random sales rep. as actual confirmation. Until I see it on AT&T's site, I have to assume that my home town will not receive 3G.

If AT&T did offer 3G in my area and pricing on the Vu was more reasonable ($250 on contract) I would definitely consider it over the Verizon alternative. I really don't want to join the big evil "Red V," but if they offer the best options with the best coverage it is hard to say no.

I've been searching picasa and flickr for photos taken WITH the Vu, no luck. This is the at&t version of the prada, right?

Posted by: rton20s

If you navigate through http://www.insidethesuit.com you can find some more information on the Vu. More specifically the CU915 (no Mobile TV) instead of the CU920. A couple of PDFs, not much else.

Basically yes. I owned the prada when it first came out and the Vu is basically a at&t branded prada with US 3G, nothing to get exited about. The iPhone is a much more capable device.

anubis, you lucky SOB.

What are your impressions of the phone so far? Call quality, media usage, TV, and functionality-wise if you don't mind.

So we're still on for the May 4th launch of mediaFLO?

K

Posted by: anubis9278

this phone is light only a couple of ounces. force feedback touchscreen. very versatile interface. call quality is average, nothing better than what the Shine has to offer. it "DOES" support 8gb micro cards. the downer is that its not as loud as i would want or like it to be. CV and Video share havent been improved upon but they are there. CV is landscape mode was choppy. side note: Atlanta is experiencing expanded 3G coverage with outages here and there. the launch of this phone is still on for 5/4/08 officially, but knowing my agents you may be able to get it as early as 5/1 or 5/2. i will be testing the battery life starting tomorrow. cant test mediaflo until 5/4

How about the browser? Did they end up using a iPhone like full html browser or is it wapish like the prada?

Can you, in fact, confirm that the production version of the Vu (CU915 or CU920) will or will not have the HTML browser?

sorry i kind of mis-stated what i meant. the vu has HTML web browsing, and its the same browser that is on the LG viewty. to me it's very wapish due to at&t bloatware. i have been spoiled by skyfire for the last month.

Now I'm really confused. Can you view a page say...Howard Forums for ex. so it looks and is layed out like it is on the computer but shrunk down(like opera) or is it fake html browsing? On alot of att phones you must turn the fit-to-page setting off to get the real html viewing.

on your above post you put prada but i was thinking viewty my mistake. then i use terms like wapish myself when describing certain phones with full html browsing that absolutely suck. the browser is full html so howard forums comes up like it would on a computer. opera also comes pre-installed on the phone. this browser doesnt stand up to safari in any kind of way. the battery on this thing is good, but could be better. i'm curious to see how it will work once mediaflo is launched

Interesting. Is it Opera or Opera Mini that comes preloaded. Side note-I did load opera mini on my Prada and it performed well in full touchscreen mode much like the iPhone.(Of course not as nice)

Yes the TV should be alot better than streaming TV with the blurriness & bufferring involved.

Posted by: denkou

how does opera work compared to the built-in browser? I always find that it works alot better... also... does it use a standard mini usb charging cable or is it something proprietary?

any idea what the pricing will be on this phone? I have an upgrade and wanna use it on this phone.

I asked about the price and they sales rep said $399 w/ a $100 mail-in rebate w/ a contract, and $619 w/out contract.

I really liked the haptic (vibration) feedback when you tap on the screen. I was with the phone for about 15 min and I think the rep was starting to get annoyed that I was just playing with the phone and/or the fact that I knew more about it than she did.

As far as the TV goes, it doesn't launch until the 4th or whatever, but if you were to buy the phone before hand, you can subscribe to the service through the phone itself. At least thats what they told me.

Its still a really cool phone though, but I'm about to go on a cruise ($$$) and I'll prob wait for either my Gov. stimulus check or to see if the price drops a little later.

Edit: This was the cu920.

wow the price is a little on the steep end

that 399 is before the $100 rebate right

Posted by: swiftbmx

Anyone know what type of headphone jack they're using? Please tell me its NOT proprietary and they were smart enough to put 3.5mm in it. I'm dying to try 3G since it became available AFTER I bought my iPhone and havent had the pelasure of experiencing it. Also, VOLTACO, did you use the broswer? Its suppose to have a real browser like the iPhone and was wondering if its anywhere as good.

Yeah $399 before the mail-in.

Swift: I never saw a 3.5 mm, so I guess that means its proprietary. I did use the browser, seems like it took it about 10-15 secs to load a page (went to www.TTORA.com) you can zoom in/out via a magnifying slider bar at the bottom of the browser; the unit can be turned to a landscaped view for browsing as well. Clicked on a couple links and it seemed OK, though a stylus would seem to work better (not included) or you will be zooming in a lot. (think about many links close togehter on a small page vs. your finger on a touch screen)

I never thought it felt cheap in any way, but I kept on trying to slide it up to get to the "real" buttons (I have a samsung D807) Habit I guess, lol.

Not much. No sync software, no cable, no case. I looked at one today at the Att store. The size is impressive, the screen is nice, typing was kinda hard, the ear piece volume was very loud but no 3.5mm jack. Kind of a cheap feel to it, VERY light in the hand. No contract price is outragous, almost $600!

Well, if it's not for you then... It's not terrible, but I'll sum it up like this: it's an LG.

Other than the 3G and TV, you might as well have an iPhone. And at this point, looks like the 3G iPhone is about a month away.

I cant believe they are capping the micro sd capability at 4GB? Can anyone else confirm this?

are both versions of the vu coming the 4th or just the cu920

Yeah I agree. I've never liked LG. The thing is, my friend doesn't really like the iPhone and she wants a touch screen phone. Based on the price of the Vu, I'd rather have the iPhone too.

Posted by: calichik120

this is actually the first LG that i've been remotely interested in.

a couple questions:

Can you send media over bluetooth? meaning, the bluetooth feature is not just for headsets. can you connect to other phones?

Also, can you send picture messages with the phone? This is one function i don't think the iphone has that it seriously is missing out on.

Not sure about the BT, they might have crippled it but you would have to look into that for sure.

I know it can send pictures. Its basically just a regular phone in a touch screen body.

I'd take issue with that. LG makes some of the best phones on the Verizon network, for example. When I tried Verizon for a month, the consensus was LG for reception, call quality, and reliability all the way. I've never heard many complaints on the LG Prada which this is damn near a clone.

I've owned an Iphone and literally gave it to a friend.....the intitial one wasn't worth much if you didnt care for music and it was a heavy brick. I plan om checking the Vu out and also buying the new Iphone when it debuts, but I don't agree with bashing a phone based on a manufacturer that has been making decent mobile phones for years

Posted by: eekflapfire

Well, LG has been known to make good phones for CDMA networks like Verizon. I've heard great things about the Verizon LG phones from friends and coworkers. However, the same cannot be said about their GSM phones. From my experience, LG GSM phones are generally inferior to their CDMA phones and several of them are riddled with problems. I have tried out a variety of LG GSM phones like the chocolate, shine, etc. Unfortunately, none of them have been extremely worthwhile. I hope the LG Vu will be an exception, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm not saying that the LG Vu will be a bad phone, but like 'bostonirishguy,' I'm skeptical because of my previous experiences with their gsm phones.

Posted by: DukeL

I actually bought the lg prada last year around july and was pretty impressed with it. First off the size was incredible, it is the same size as the razr2 and alot more compact than the iPhone. It is made of plastic and felt cheap but after toteing around the heavy iPhone for a while I realize that isn't such a bad thing. Java apps worked great on the touchscreen & videos were displayed beautifully. The shortcomings were the "off" touchscreen(Like I have read in some of the Vu reviews certain parts of the touchscreen were "off" and you needed to press slightly above the desired location for it to respond.) and it lacked the US 3G and 850 bands so it had to go. It did however pick up good signal on at&t using only the 900 band.

My other experience with a lg was not so good. The cu500 for cingular would lose out on reception by simply putting it in my pocket. I would pull it out of my pocket and it would have zero bars, leave it out for a sec or two and the signal would return.

Posted by: eekflapfire

Since the LG Vu is similar to the LG Prada, I hope the Vu will turn out to be a good phone. I always wanted to test the LG Prada, but the lack of gsm850 kept me away. I have friends who have eagerly awaited the Vu. I hope it lives up to expectations

I've asked a few AT&T stores in Newport Beach, CA about the LG Vu. I asked about the pricing and availability, but all the stores seem a bit "secretive" about the phone. They told me the official launch date isn't until tomorrow so I should try calling back tomorrow for pricing and to see if they have it in stock.

Same here, the store told me that it would not be launched till the end of May. They would not give me pricing either. This was today, by the way.

are you kidding dude. i might as well pick up a more advance phone like the htc advantage (used) or a n95-4 , dont get me wrong the vu looks nice but not at that price. il wait a couple of months intil they drop it down to 199

Posted by: newtype2011

Yeah, $199 seems like a good price for the phone, especially considering the weak camera (even though it does have AF) and the lack of POP3. I don't think I'll like the fact that the phone is so light, but, the Prada was extremely light so it may not be too big of a deal.

If anything, I just think it would be cool to have a TV in your pocket just like they do in Japan and Korea -

Has anyone been to a store where there was a choice between the Cu915 and the Cu920 or as I suspect can you only get the TV version in MediaFlo markets, and only get the non-Tv version in non-MediaFlo markets? All the stores around me only have the Vu tv version.(I'm in San Diego a MediaFlo supported maket) I also heard the Tv-less version is $100 cheaper on full retail, can anyone confirm?

Im in the Philadelphia market, which is a MediaFlo market and my store had 3 TV versions. I ask about he Cu915 and they seem to think they wouldnt even get it. Id go for a non TV version if the price was right, biatch.

I am with you, will be to hard for me to lose all my features for a pretty screen.

The Samsung Access gets better TV reception than the Vu (even with its antenna up.)

Unfortunately, this is a typical LG product. Looks great on paper, looks great when you open the box, performs with mediocrity when it comes to actual functionality. However, in a general sense the thing performs pretty decently. Plus the screen is quite nice.

That said, the touchscreen on it isn't too bad at all. In fact, I like it and the full touch keyboard for texting. So the phone doesn't fail on all fronts.

Pricing:
$419.99 In-store
$100 Mail-in Rebate

Ending price: $319.99
Ending price with $15 or higher texting plan: $299.99

Posted by: EvilWolf

I had high hopes for the VU but unfortunately it let me down. I called ahead and had one held for me today so that I could get one first thing. Luckily I wanted to play with a working tester phone before I bought one. I was utterly disappointed in a phone they wanted $400 for b4 rebate. I spent 45 minutes testing the tester.

The touch screen was garbage compared to the Iphone, just no comparison really. The full HTML browser too fell waaaay short of Iphone's safari. Also, the Vu did feel cheap, and the tester at another store I went to last night had already broken - not kidding! Also, the reception and clarity of the picture couldn't even compare to the Samsung Access they had. The Samsung Access was also a much better phone call quality wise.

Total disappointment in the Vu so I bought the Samsung Access and will be waiting for the Iphone2 this July. If the Vu was $150, then maybe, but at $400 or so you'd have to be an idiot to buy that thing.

I can say this, I made a call on it in the store and the volume was very good. Very loud, much more so then the iPhone. Actually had to turn the volume down!

Okay so I just picked mine up. Got lucky and undeservedly got the 2yr. upgrade price!! I was expecting to pay full retail.

Love the size of the device and with the battery in it is heavier and more solid feeling than the LG Prada. It is also a little longer than the prada.(Will post comparison pics next to prada & iPhone)

AT&T MobilTv is awesome! Sooooo much clearer than CV or MobiTv. The channel guide is just like on my home tv's digital cable box. Watching Cartoons, espn & the concert channel right now.

I just loaded up a 8GB sandisk micro sd card and will report shortly on media functions but I have no doubt as with the prada that the Vu will display video absolutely beautiful. The camera takes good pics, it has macro mode & auto focus along with a ton of other settings.(I will post some samples shortly.)

Really like the haptic feedback on the touchscreen similar to the feel of the touch buttons on the razr2. Also I am already blazing fast on the virtual qwerty!

Web browsing does show the full html page as it would on your desktop. What can I say, so far so good.

Sweet deal man! So how did you bribe them into the upgrade price? What was the upgrade price again? What about a case or anything to carry it in?

Have you messed with the email settings yet? When I was using the one in the store, it seemed to miss on some of the screen taps, but the plastic was still on it so thats probably why. Yours doesnt do this? Hmm oh have you messed with music at all? Curious about sound quality. I might go to my store again and look at it for the second time. I swear they use Jedi mind tricks in that place.

I didn't. I kept on asking for a deal and was turned down but I think they misunderstood me because when I was rung up they charged me the 2yr price which is $399-$100mir. I think a good way to approach this is have them ring up the device and if they ring it up as $549, act like you were expecting the $399 price. Of course once sold you will be able to claim the $100 mir.

As with every device I own I will purchase an invisible shield full body shield as it protects without at all effecting the form factor.

At first I thought the screen might be a litle off but thats just because I was trying to use it like the iPhone. Once calibrated and I realized the correct input manner it has been working like a breeze! Very accurate.

The stereo headset that is included looks quite nice(I will probably just use a stereo bt headset anyways)and the speaker volume is loud for music though I have only tested the preloaded tracks.

Here are some comparison shots next to the LG Prada & the Apple iPhone...

You can only use ringtones for calls, I think they have to be up to 300kb.

nevermind its somehow vanished.

Just visited the corporate store inside Valley Fair Mall near San Jose / Santa Clara, the Vu with Mobile Tv is 299 before 100 mail in rebate with a two year contract. Also was told San Francisco Bay area Mobile Tv will be available soon. This price is definitely different from the others on this thread.

Anyone know the upgrade pricing on this phone, WITHOUT the TV??? Will it be cheaper?

Posted by: dshort09

Yes what is the price for the CU915? and Does anyone know if mediaflo constantly stays on and keeps searching for signals or can you turn it off and not let it drain the battery?

I guess this is where me being a pain in the rear or persistent (whatever you want to call it) pays off. I called about three at&t stores today asking what the no commitment price is for the VU. The first two stores told me that it was $550. The last told me it was $399 + a mail in rebate. I asked the lady to double check on the price and again $399 + rebate. I got her name showed up about 10 min. later and purchased it. It was the CU920 by the way. She also mentioned that I was the first one in City to buy one. It is a fairly small City.

Okay so after testing the Vu for 2 days, it officially sucks!! And I really wanted to like it.

The browser has terrible connectivity issues. It often will freeze and not load the next page or link but instead will freeze with the sandbar timer in the right hand corner indefinitely. Also alot of times it will say connection lost and the browser or page must be launched a second time to connect. Some full html pages will also not load at all.

I even tried swapping out for a second Vu and sure enough, same problems. Anyone who uses the web on their phone DO NOT get the LG Vu. It is pure trash. And this is coming from someone who was a major fan and really wanted to like the phone. It is simply not ready for primetime. You've been warned, do not buy it.

How do you really feel?

I don't care about web, how is this phone as a phone?

I am using this phone only as a phone and I'm liking it so far. I very rarely use the web on a phone, so that aspect is not a deal breaker for me. With past phones my girlfriend is always complained that I sounded muffled, but with this phone she is finally not complaining. I think that I was able to squeeze a little more battery life out of the VU also. I got into the service menu and enabled 2g mode. The service menu code is 277634#*#. This is very important to me because I get great 2g coverage in my house and not so good with 3g. I'm still playing with all of the other features, but I think this one my be a keeper.

O.k so you know I cannot help with fixes but I have several suggestions for upgrades so here we go
1) when adding new contact you should be able to use full keyboard
2) when in e-mail you cannot insert pictures or files and cannot refer to your address book for an e-mail address you have to manually type it in (horrible)
3) when texting with full keyboard o.k should be send not sending you back to original page then you have to hit send
4) needs a direct internet link whether its internet explorer or whatever too many steps to get online
5) calendar apointments should come up more like wm not just a little icon on top of screen which is hard to access with large fingers
6) need to be able to sync
7) need to be able to choose different sounds for everything not just ringtone and messaging multimedia and text should be individualized

thank you and more to come

It is already out. I called CS dialing 611 and asked before I bought mine in store. They quoted me the price for both with and without tv versions of the VU.
