Hmm...since the cu920 is $549, I guess it might be worthwhile to get it instead of the cu915 since it only costs $30 more. I expected AT&T to price the cu915 $100 less than the cu920. Regardless, I think both versions are overpriced.

I'd like to ask if anyone knows how to delete the pre-loaded stuff on the phone. I'm talking about items like the game demos which I'll never buy or the applications that I have no need for. They don't have the delete functionality like the ones I've loaded myself. This is the first LG phone I've ever owned so I'm not as familiar with the operating system.

Thanks in advance everyone!

What USB cable does the Vu use? Same as the Trax, Shine, etc; or one of its own? I know LG has a tendency to change port connectors frequently.

EDIT:

DayDeal says it uses the same one as the Shine/Trax/Voyager/etc.

Part #: SGDY0010901

How come the vu and the access have not been on the att site for my area? Its been about 20 days since they came out but they're not on the site or in any of the stores i have checked.

I have heard it may not be available on line for areas where Mobile TV is not available. However, San Francisco Area does not have Mobile TV yet, but both phones (Lg is the 920 variant) are available in stores and online. Maybe they are selling in the markes that will have the Mobile TV soon.

My area doesn't have 3G yet(doesn't look like it ever will) and my local stores have the CU915(no TV), I played with one yesterday for about 20 minutes. I really liked it. While not a smooth as the iphone, the screen was very responsive and accurate. I told them I was gonna think it over and I'd probably be back, but they closed early due to Memorial Day so I didn't get back. I'm seriously think about picking one up today.

For the price and lack of 3g coverage. Your better off buying an iPhone (a refurb if you can get ahold of one from AT&T) Jailbreak, Activate and Unlock it. I had the VU for a short time and then went back to an iPhone there really is no comparison.

The iPhone doesn't have MMS, and it doesn't appear that they are willing to add it. I guess I'm one of the few(according to some on this board) that actually use it. My friends and I are constantly sending each other funny pix, tones, etc. I've allredy had an iPhone, and except for the lack of MMS, I loved it, and I'll buy another in a heartbeat IF they add MMS. I'm hoping the new version will include it but I'm not holding my breath. Until then I'm liking the VU pretty well.

Of course once sold you will be able to claim the $100 mir.

As with every device I own I will purchase an invisible shield full body shield as it protects without at all effecting the form factor.

At first I thought the screen might be a litle off but thats just because I was trying to use it like the iPhone. Once calibrated and I realized the correct input manner it has been working like a breeze! Very accurate.

The stereo headset that is included looks quite nice(I will probably just use a stereo bt headset anyways)and the speaker volume is loud for music though I have only tested the preloaded tracks.

Here are some comparison shots next to the LG Prada & the Apple iPhone...

Apparently AT&T as since gotten greedy. The headset is no longer included. I didn't notice this until I got home.

It might be because you got the 915 and the headset is for 920 only. Still, that is pretty cheap on the ATT part.

if they dont give a discount on the 3g iphone for an upgrade i might actually get the vu and play around with it, good info

Here are a few avatars I made for the LG Vu. Feel free to use them. I also linked to them in the Avatar Request thread

Posted by: wlo8

Now the 8GB iphone with 3G is going to be 199 with 2 year contract. How much will the Vu' price drop to? The $299 after $100 rebate price is bit high.

Posted by: anubis9278

vu both versions is or will be $199.99 after $100 MIR.

Thanks. I guess the Mobile TV is the only thing that the Vu has against the $199 iphone 3G.

Great posts, very informative. I have a W600i and ive got an upgrade from Rogers (Canada) . Theyre giving me 100$ credit to a new phone and the Vu costs 179.99 here. so im looking at around 190 or something. so 90 of my own money. pretty good me thinks. ANYWAYS. the real reason i love my W600i is because everything can be custom. I can use thrid party themes, make my own ringtones, make my own screen savers, make my own bootup wallpapers, put on my own games, the list goes ON and ON. And thats why I love it. Its the best feature to be able to make something your own. For those of you that have it:

1) Any third party themes? (example: I use casino royale james bond theme for my w600i)

2) Can you make your own ringtones on Audacity or lame and then put them on your phone? (massive deal breaker for me, i HATE stock tones)

3) Can you customize icon placement? I dont know if ill always want my launch icons on the bottom there as all the pictures show it. anyway to move it to the middle or top?

If anyone could answer these questions, it would be very appreciated and im sure it would help others looking for the same answers.

I have the CU915. I believe that is the non-tv version. The service isn't available in Charlotte yet. (That I know of.)

Posted by: dream5hift

would it matter which model to get when they're the same price?

When I was at an ATT store I was told they are not the same price. Mobile TV I can do without and even if they were the same price, I hate that weird looking antenna.

Any feedback on the phone? Call volume, battery life, ringtone volume and the ability to use custom ringtones, signal strength, speed of user interface, customizable? Thanks.

Posted by: dream5hift

on the premiere site, the prices were $199 AR for both.

The call volume is great. The speaker phone is very loud. You can use custom ringtones as long as they are under 300kb. The signal strength is excellent. Like the Shine, I can get a signal in places other people can't. The user interface is fairly quick and you can customize the look with themes, etc.
I'm really blown away by the phone.

Right on. Best call quality I have EVER had on any phone on any network, which is my goal here. I posted a review on the Amazon page for the Vu - I am totally blown away.

Posted by: RYOBI

Have either of you used a Moto V9? If so, how does the call quality compare? If not, no problemo.

Also, any comments on battery life?

Posted by: RYOBI

Does the VU have auto-cleanup on old text messages? Couldn't find that feature anywhere in manual.

I'm sorry, I have not ever used that Moto. Battery life is great - surprisingly so, even when browsing in 3G or long speakerphone conversations. Really impressive.

Best,
Lewis

Not sure. If you tell me what to look for, I'm glad to check for you though.

On the Moto V9 you can set to have it remove old text (sent or received) messages. It's customizable, so you can set it to remove messages that are older than 1 hr, 1 day, 5 days, 1 week, etc. So as not to accumulate old messages and to have to manually delete them yourself. I played with a VU in the ATT store for about 30 minutes and didn't see that listed anywhere in the settings. I read on another board that the option to do that was not in the VU's capability.

Also, if you could answer 1 more question. Is the VU's Bluetooth speed 2.0 or 1.2?

Posted by: RYOBI

Ah, never mind on the BT question, I found it it's the slower 1.2. Odd, for a high end phone LG wouldn't use BT 2.0.

How is the web browser on the Vu compared to that in the iphone?

Posted by: RYOBI

After examining the VU, it's really not that great. So, I went with the iPhone 3G

Absolutely horrible. Thats the reason I returned my Vu. Some pages it wouldn't load. It would just get stuck with the sandbar going and never fully load. Tried 2 of them to make sure I didn't just get a bad unit. If you use your phone to browse the Vu is wak.

Wow, thats a letdown. Thanks for letting me know. I was ready to purchase one assuming the browser was okay.

I just picked up a refurb for $129.99...

...probably a stupid decision, but I suppose I just had to give this thing a shot and see how bad (or good) it is for myself. I'm a huge fan of the simplicity of the Prada, but I couldn't deal with the lack of 850mhz in clubs and bars.

Posted by: madizms

where did you find a refurb? despite the reviews i'm interested in the phone... i want to downgrade from my 8525..

Posted by: naplesbill

I bought a brand new Vu for $129.99 yesterday at Best Buy. It was upgrade pricing.

I too read the reviews but I bought it anyway. The main reason I wanted it was to get MediaNet for $15 instead of paying $30 for a PDA plan. I mostly use data for email so $30 is not worth it. So far I am pretty happy with the phone. There are a couple minor annoyances but overall it is much better than I expected.

Most of the reviews have some inaccuracies as well. I remember reading one review that said you had to remove the SIM to install/remove the micro SD card. The only thing you have to remove is the battery. I also have not had any real concerns with screen lag nor do I have any complaints on the interface. The interface could stand a few improvements but I think it is highly functional overall. If you just want a device with a QWERTY keyboard and access to the internet then this phone should do the job.

Is there anyway to increase the SMS storage? <100 seems very meager.

Well, I don't save my sms messages so I didn't realize this was the case. What is a normal amount of SMS storage? There is a 30 message storage on the sim but I don't know if you can save them from the phone or not.

i sure hope the phone can store more texts. I didn't get the unlimited text plan to be deleting texts every other day!

Can someone verify text limit. might sell the phone if it doesn't cooperate! haha
