I have had it about 6 months now. And my battery meter always shows full. I never know when it is about to die. It just shuts off and then i have to recharge it. Is there something I can do to get it to show the battery as it loses charge?

That doesn't sound like it is updating icon correctly. but the answer to your q's is yes- if you go into task manager. hit the menu key and you should see (5) battery. This will show a nice long bar. you can click refresh too.
