Slider Sonic (KX5b) Bricked?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I used to be able to access my phone's internal memory to transfer files, but I can't access it anymore.
After adding ringtones, and a few Java Games + Apps (namely jmIrc, which I think causes my problem) I rebooted my Slider Sonic. The phone is stuck in an endless power cycle. I've added ringtones + apps successfully before, but now the phone keeps restarting to the "Virgin Mobile" welcome screen.
I know the phone works fine, because for a second it shows up in KPST; and then restarts. Is there a way to flash my phone back to the original, or have it boot into the current system in safemode?

I don't have a whole backup file, but I do have backups of files I modified.

How did you get the ringtones on phone? I've been trying for days and still no luck... Could you give me a link or manual to get rintones on the KX5B

Thanks

Any news on this issue? is the phone jsut a paper weight now? I'm having the same issue and hoping for the best but prepared for the worst. If any one cares to elaborate further on how to fix this problem please due. I'm at wits end.

You'll have to do a JTAG restore of the firmware, you'll need the right cables and you'll have to know where the pinouts are. I got rid of my KX5, so I'll be using my Party Animal to help with the restore. Currently, you can google "SE47 JTAG" which should help you understand what JTAG is; people had this problem with the SE47. You'll need a JTAG application, sourceforge has a free one; you'll also need a cheap JTAG adapter (I remember radioshack had one a while ago).

Before you remove the shielding over the circuits, you'll need the firmware / OS dump, so ask a friend to dump the KX5B's system using KPST.
--- You need the DJ1004 hxb file and qcn file; I'll obtain it if you can't get it.
Note: if you can use KX5B firmware, although use of the included KX5 flashes included with KPST are acceptable.

Once reflashed, you'll be able to boot the phone; but you can't make calls until you reprogram your ESN (sticker on the back, I can discuss reprograming via PM with you), and until you reprogram Virgin's network settings. The reprogramming is easy, although it sounds like a lot of work.

JTAG restores can be done at the Kyocera factory. Also, Low-level Test mode will be enabled when the phone boots up with a JTAG connection.

I can't seem to find the jtag adapter any other reliable place you know of? I don't much trust ebay.

you may solder yourself wiggler, use macraigor software.

Posted by: amlwaycooljr

i am very new to this what exactly is a wiggler? is it a cable that is serial on one side and has pins on the other that i can just solder into place?

Wiggler: http://www.olimex.com/dev/arm-jtag.html
You'll need to solder your serial cable, since the pinout doesn't have any pins.

Also, there's probably an easier way than this. I'll need a copy of someone's KX5's /rom directory to examine the startup code for emergency menus.

any luck with the emergency menus?

Nope, I still haven't got a copy of the ROM.
