i have a lg8600 from alltel. a friend of mine gave me ring tones made with audiocity. when i load them on my phone micro sd card and put the card back in my phone i cannot find the ring tones. i use a thumb drive that i can put my micro sd card and move the ring tones from my computer to the card. is this the proper way to do it or do i need the cable.

I don't know if this will work on the 8600 but it worked on my 8300. Try the following, make a new folder "ringers" (I think that it has to be all lower case) on your MSD card, then copy the MP3s or MIDI files that you want to use as ringers into that folder. For ringtones, you will probably want to edit the MP3s down to about 30 seconds. I think that is what I did, but if that doesn't work, you may have to get a data cable and use software like bitpim to load the ringtones into your phone's memory.

Please let me know if this works for you.

i checked the ring tones and they are 30 second clips and are in midi files. i creates the ringers file and put the ring tones in that file with my usb thumb drive. when i put the card back in my phone i cannot find the ringers file to set any of them as a ring tone. maybe i do need a cable. thanks for your help!

I had the time to try what I suggested that you try, and you are correct, it doesn't work. Using a $20 data cable and BitPim (free) it works just fine with the card in the phone. I have no idea what the difference is as the file shows up in the "ringers" folder on the MSD card. Maybe someone who is more technically savvy can explain the difference.
