Palm Centro-Did you get one?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

So who picked up a new Palm Centro? Just curious if anyone has one if they like it or not. I hear good things about it. Although I read that the AT&T version is missing stereo BT and the headphone jack. That cant be true? I wont even consider it till another color (black) comes out.

Plan on getting one when the black comes out.

Got the white one, better have small fingers.

Yes, it does have a 2.5mm headphone jack. Also I can't seem to find info on the stereo bluetooth. I want to find out for sure before I buy a headset. AT&Ts website says it does, but I cant find any info in the user manual.

Ive read in a few places that its suppose to have stereo bluetooth but then I read on another site that it didnt have it. If it doesnt have that Im not sure Im going to get one. No wifi, no AD2P, no 3G, starting to sound like my iPhone LOL. And I wont get one until black comes out too, the white is not doing anything for me at all!

it looks like a typical palm POS anyways...no 3g, screw it...

Anyone who has the ATT Centro.... does the built in IM program use data or sms? That may be the point that will make me say yay or nay to this device. Finding a good reliable chat program for palm is hard to find. And I am not looking to get unlimited sms..

Thanx..

Took mine back. Not a bad phone, and mine may have been a fluke, but numerous dropped calls, which were a very rare with my old moto. Also, was getting no service in places where I have service with moto. i am not putting the phone down. I have the sprint version which I rank as the best sprint phone i've ever owned, precluding battery life.

Interesting, how does Sprint coverage compare to at&t in your area?

So you took back the at&t Centro? First Ive heard anything bad about it besides the little keyboard. Signal is all relative to where you live IMO. Sprint is the weakest of the three here where I live and I hate their (lack) customer service. How is the battery life on the Sprint version? With Sprintspeed or whatever they call the 3G service it cant be too good.

Just picked up a white one. Really impressed so far. Would definitely recommend.

Couldn't wait for the black one huh? lol.. What phone are you coming from? Can you report back on the battery life and stability? Ive heard from the Sprint camp that they are having some pretty serious battery problems. Any crashes or other usual Palm issues? Thanks!

Im still holding out for another color or even better yet maybe a unlocked version that still has stereo BT.

Went and took a look at the store to mess around with it. I would prefer the 680 or 750. That thing is tiny, and those keys are realllllly small.

I finally picked up a unlocked black one and I like it! Im a little worried about the battery life though. Seemed to die very quickly after the first charge. Its very easy to use and the Palm OS is a nice change. Appears the GSM unlocked version does not have the built in IM client, which sucks.

There is almost a 99% chance that it uses sms and not data. That is how they make their money.

There are plenty of apps out there for IM. Spend a few dollars.

I'll buy a Centro when a black one comes out. I'll most likely buy an unlocked one though, unless I can get one at an excellent price.

I really need to replace my aging Treo 650. I mostly use it as a PDA anymore but its always good to have a spare for your spare. :-)

the people who have had them can you answer a couple of questions? ( i read reviews already) does the centro suffer from of the same problems its elder brother have? like battery problem ram issue? browser crashing ?

Are you comparing coverage to another Sprint phone or what you get with at&t?

Posted by: plane

My sprint centrol has great reception, better than my sanyo's which have beeen rated the best of the sprint phones for sometime. My att version suffered poor reception compared to my motos, and I returned it. I never had any software issues with the att version, possibly I didn't use it enough to pick it up. The sprint version reboots about 203 times a week, and will only rarely freeze, which reuires a battery removal. BAttery life for phone usage is okay, but he other functions really eat up the battery.
\
You can put it down if you choose, but for a $100, you can't name anothre phone/pda which will do more.

Great , now everyone knows, and Sprint doesn't have the money to add capacity!

Give it a couple charge cycles, it should get better after a week, it helps if you are not a heavy data user, to keep the internet connection closed until you need it, your talking an extra day of time with medium-heavy voice usage.

Me and my wife both have centros and love them, we got the phone for free through wirefly and for that price, there is not a phone out there that can even come close to everything these can do for the price. Reception is great, battery life is okay 2days before a charge usually, the keyboard takes adjusting to, but its not bad for its size. I would recommend it.

I have a question for those with the AT&T Centro's...XM radio streaming on these phones, is that a program that is installed or is it trough a web service that they stream it? If its a program, what is the name of it?

Nate
