Text message problems

Hi,
I got a new phone a couple of weeks ago (a HTC touch). This phone can't receive text messages from Rogers or Telus, but can receive texts from Bell and international numbers.

Bell have spent 3 days trying to fix this but still haven't solved the problem. When I asked for an estimate of when it would be fixed the person couldn't say.

How long should something like this take to fix?

if you ported a number from another carrier, it can take up to a month to resolve itself.

Thanks for that. I did port my number over from Rogers.

I wonder why Bell doesn't know about this delay? If someone had told me that text messages were not going to work for a while I would not have switched to Bell.

i'm just trying to figure out why you would port from Rogers to Bell...are you a glutton for punishment?

This issue arises with all companies to maybe ~5% of ported numbers.

Lol...don'tcha see? There are people leaving Rogers now because their contracts are up and now that they can port they truly can get the "plan du jour" without a care who it's with.

Watch - when his contract is up he'll change again to whoever provides him with the best intro/device pricing... ;-)

the reality is, there aren't that many Touch users on Rogers...the only reason why the Touch is popular with Bell is because of the $7 unlimited data feature...if it were a regular device, requiring a regular data plan, no one would have it here either.

yes, you will always have the customers that flip from provider to provider to get the best deal, and there is nothing wrong with that...it is up to the provider to remain competitive and retain its business...unfortunately, too many people switch without getting all the details, and end up regretting the decision for 2 1/2 more years...it isn't a coincidence that once you sign a contract with Bell, there is no way out without the ETF...makes you think, doesn't it?
