BB without BES using WiFi

I'm a T-Mobile user currently running a T-Mobile SDA (US), a Windows Mobile 5 smartphone, and no data plan. I have an account with Mail2web.com that I use to sync the phone to Evolution (MS Outlook clone) on Linux. This is all for personal use -- I have no need for push email, etc, I just like to be able to look at my email when I'm at home, coffee shops, etc. using WiFi; and not re-enter contacts and personal appts. on the phone and PC.

So now it's contract time again and I get to choose a new phone. I could go with the T-Mobile Shadow, which is a Windows Mobile 6 device and get it to work the same way as above, but I'd rather go with the BB 8120 when it's released next month. (Word is the Shadow is a POS, and I have no love for Windows mobile after using the SDA for 2 years).

Can I set up the BB to access the mail2web.com exchange server and update email, contacts, calendar etc. just using WiFi and not a BIS, data plan, or anything else that will generate a monthly fee?

Thanks in advance,
Max

in short if you dont have a BB dataplan the builtin email client (that works well with exchange over BIS and BES) will not work. Some apps will work (ie Opera browser) and some have reported using the Gmail app to get mail. But from what you are describing (I assume you are syncing OTA with MS Active Sync for Exchange) it will not work.

If MW6 is not in your future, but may want to look at a symbian device rather than a BB. Symbian has a program called Mail 4 Exchange (M4E) that runs on just about all S60 symbian devices that will sync your email, contacts and calendar with MS Active Sync running on Exchange.

Hmmm. Bad news. I'll have to see if I can talk the wife in a bb plan.

Thanks for the info.,
Max

TMo actually has the cheapest BIS plan around. $19/month for unltd data and email is at least $10 cheaper than anyone else out there that I've seen
