Dropped my curve!! LCD won't turn on...

Hey everyone,

So I dropped my curve the other day. The LCD and keyboard backlight will not turn on now. I can still receive calls, and talk on the phone. Any clue what the issue is? Could a broken LCD cause the keyboard backlight to not work?

my guess is a lose connection. since you will probably be purchasing a new BB in the future, it probably wouldnt hurt to take it apart and see if you have something lose.

i had a problem when i dripped a 7130 and the external speaker stopped working..... a few good smacks on the device would make it work again.

Yep, something "may" have just come loose but there is also the chance of parts damaged and need replacement. Depending on your skill level you can take it apart. Do a search as there are detailed instructions.

When I worked at RadioShack customers would routinely be amazed by my ability to bring a broken device back to life by slamming it down on the counter.

we got an old 48inch projection tv for free from someone who bought a new one the colour used to run constantly until the tv was on for about an hour...i smacked it pretty hard one day and it hasn't had a problem since

or you could just use your insurance to replace it?

Wirelessly posted (pocket computah: BlackBerry8830/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

I'd bet either a loose cable/connection or a broken LCD and backlight... But I'm betting on the loose cable

I would be extremely surprised if an INSURANCE program didn't cover dropping the device.

Manufacturer's warranties, service & repair programs, extended warranties, etc., typically will not (Sprint's ESRP is a notable exception), but INSURANCE... definitely should.

is the backlight on the lcd itself ? i have a 8700 that i replaced with 2 lcd and the backlight still doesn't come on... tested it with other 8700 devices and the lcd is good... anything special on the circuit board itself ?

The circuit board obviously has circuitry responsible for getting power to the backlight, switching it on/off, etc., but the backlight itself is built into the LCD module.
