Best alternate firmware for KRZR

I have a KRZR on Verizon and I hate the interface. Does anyone have any suggestions/advice on how best to hack it to put on different firmware? I want to be sure I can download any pictures I've taken either by bluetooth or usb. I've been hunting the forums all day and I can't find suggestions on what to do or how to do it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
