What could the problem be? REPAIR NEEDED

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

ok, I have an iPhone a friend gave me to fix. He is getting the message: "repair needed. iPhone cannot make or receive calls." The phone seems to have no service, no wifi, no imei, no bluetooth.

he was trying to unlock it using the geohotz method when it froze during the process and he had to reboot. Since then it has poped up that message. The phone was a 4.6bl but I used ziphone to attempt an unlock and baseband repair and I believe it also downgraded the bootloader to 3.9... People have told me that my problem was a corrupt baseband, and I thought that the answer to my problem was as simple as upgrading to 1.1.4 so it would flash over the new bb... I paciently waited till it was released and even after upgrading to 1.1.4 nothing has changed. Upon completion of the upgrade I get a error stating "an unexpected error occured." Still getting the same message and have no imei or anything. Just have the little picture of the cable on the screen saying to connect to itunes.

Ive tried restoring in DFU mode 4 times in a row... tried normal restore mode, tried just plugging it in and just hitting the restore button in itunes... same result.

If your interested in seeing the things I tried previously, you can check my older thread
is there a way to reflash the baseband of an OTB 1.1.2/4.6bl?

I would really apreciate some input. Thanks

You have a corrupt baseband. What you need to do is figure out a way to get back to 1.1.3 (I think). You can try on 1.1.4, but I dont know if iEraser works on 1.1.4. You need rouse ZiPhone, and use the -e command. If you use the GUI, its under advanced options. That will completely erase your baseband. What happens when you do a restore or upgrade in iTunes, is that it checks for A baseband. It does not run an integrity check on the baseband. If there is ANY baseband there, corrupt or not, iTunes doesn't fully install a new baseband. It just does whatever the changes or modifications to it are, and moves on.

Try erasing your baseband with ZiPhone, and then doing a full restore in iTunes. If you dont know how to downgrade to 1.1.3 (I personally have never tried), I know that TechGuy40 and a couple other users have done it.

Let us know what happens.

I've tried erasing the bb using the ziphone GUI on my mac and it says "waiting for data..." Stays like that until I reset & restore again. I can try it on my pc using the dos terminal and see if that makes a difference but I doubt it.

I'm at work so I'll have to try it later when I get home, but any other suggestions? That way I have more than one thing I can try incase plan A doesn't work.

Read TechGuy40's thread on downgrading 1.1.4. That should fix your problem.

I had a similiar problem when I tried to soft update to 1.1.3, I had to DFU to 1.1.3 twice and it fixed it.

Didn't work. :-( here is what I did
1) entered DFU mode and downgraded to 1.0.2 fw(did it twice in a row)
2) activated & jailbroke
3) used iBricker to install BSD subsystem and V100 Terminal since I have no wifi.
4) copied 1.1.4 secpack to usr/bin/.. Also copied ieraser and a couple other files to this directory.
5) killed commcenter and executed ieraser.
It started running then states after a couple lines of code.."you need a file called secpack matching your current firmware version in this folder see http://iphonejtag.blogspot.com for instructions on finding this file
waiting for data..."
now it just hangs there. I know I have the secpack there. What could be the problem?

Did you name the secpack folder appropriately, and place it in the proper folder?

I put all the files in the usr/bin folder. The secpack I renamed to "secpack" with no file extension. I also tried leaving the bin extension on it "secpack.bin" still no results. I really hope I'm doing something wrong. That way I can correct it and it will work. I hate to think I'm doing it right and it just doesn't work. Any other advice?

Is the secpack supposed to be in its own folder?

restored to 1.1.4 and tried the new ziphone 2.5 .... still didnt work.. any other suggestion? OR any reason why its still "waiting for data..."asking for the correct secpack when I run ieraser?
