Ok so heres the story i got my phone in sept and it had the 1.002 firmware but stupid me upgraded to 1.1.1. Then my friend told me about jailbreak and i went through the process of adding apps and stuff. I enjoyed having it unlocked because of the apps i could download. But now i get the evil "your phone needs repairs" message and when i connect to itunes it gives me "iphone" cannot be used with itunes because the sim card is pin locked or not installed you must enter your sim pin or insert your sim card into you phone in order to activate it"

Since these incidents occured i made an appointment at apple for them to take a look at the phone so i can get a replacement. My question is if i restore the phone back to 1.1.1 which i have dled the firmware, will there be any trace of the phone being jailbreaked? I havent gone through the process yet only because ive read that some people have made the mistake and went back to an older bootloader? something like that.

What are the correct steps to take in order to properly restore the phone.

I was also thinking about swapping sim cards with a buddy of mine and trying to see if i can restore using his card instead of mine. If this is a possibility then i might do that. Which option is best?

FYI my friend and i are both on the At&t network.

Put it in dfu mode and restore to 1.1.4 before you do anything. That's the first thing they will do.

I had the iphone needs repair problem too, did you try to upgrade 1.1.3? I had to *dfu* to 1.1.3 TWICE then ziphoned and it fixed it. I had the needs repair with NO IMEI, NUMBER, OR WIFI!!

chances are they will try a restore at the apple store which, if successful, will rid any trace of the jailbreak. Either way, according to all 3 apple stores in Atlanta the genius doesn't care if all you have done is a jailbreak because a simple restore puts it back to factory fresh. Its unlocking/bootloader downgrades they look for. I have taken my jailbroken phone in and gotten good service from Apple because I have at&t and my phone is locked.
