What is Firmware 04.04.05_G

I'm the troubled one. I just purchased new iphone, didn't really want to downgrade to a lower baseband/bootloader (it used to be 4.6 based on my serial number) in case I needed to return it to Apple. Anyways, I used ziphone to unlock, authorize (or something like that), and ....that other thing...noob - can you tell and it's way past my bedtime (now 1:45 a.m.). All seems to be working!!!!!!

But, I'm now running v. 1.1.4 (phone originally came w/ 1.1.3) and I can't figure out what bootloader I have. I go to settings and the firmware says: 04.04.05_G.

I am a noob, but I've done the search......please don't scream at me.

What is this new firmware? I'm thinking it came w/ 1.1.4.

According to this forum, if I used ziphone, my bl should have downgraded to a 3.9 (I think that's the number). But my firmware number on the iphone does not correspond to that of a 3.9, nor a 4.6 for that matter.

What's up?

Read the stickies first.

Read the 4th and 5th digits on the back of phone. If is 45 and up, you have bl 4.6. The firmware 4.4.5_G is associate with version 1.1.4.

also the 4th and 5th digits could also be 04 or 05 since that would be the week number in 2008 in which case you would have 4.6BL

ziphone shouldn't downgrade your BL unless you choose that option. So unless you specifically clicked the check box for downgrading the boot loader to 3.9 you should be ok

If you have modem version 04.04.05_G then it downgraded your bootloader. That's a good thing though.

To reiterate what some said, ziphone may have downgraded your bootloader unknowingly to you. If you can (not sure if it's 1.1.4 compatible yet) install bbinfo (baseband info) and that will tell you what your bootloader is for sure. Again, 04.04.05_G is the baseband and that particular one is specific to 1.1.4 firmware. The bootloader is different from both of those and bbinfo will tell you what bootloader you have on your phone currently. dhendriksen says downgrading your bootloader is good becuase the 3.9bl is can have *any* baseband unlocked on it (any of the current basebands i mean of course) whereas with 4.6bl it's a little different. Anyhow, congrats on your new, unlocked, and working iPhone!

Edit: you should be able to install bbinfo from installer on your phone. if you dont know how, searching around should help you to do that. best bet may be with google.

I dont want to start a new thread so hear I go

I not knowingly downgraded my bootloader to 3.9 and I have to get a replacement for my cracked screen and is there anyway I can upgrade back to 4.6? Or will the people at the Genius Bar see I modded my phone and not replace it?

You might be safe, but only w.r.t. the Genius Bar (and they just go and replace it at the store for you). If they end up sending it to AppleCare then it might be very iffy.
I don't think there is a way to upgrade the bootloader back to 4.6 without hardware mods (at least that's been said w.r.t. hardware mods).

Ok they said they'll replaced in the store, only thing will apple come back hunting me after they found out I modded my phone

My iPhone is O.O.B with 1.1.1, 04.04.05_G, and BL v3.9.

I activated it correctly with ZiPhone 2.5.

ZiPhone 2.5 will not jailbreak or unlock it though.

Any ideas?

*restore* to 1.1.4 twice, then try ziphone 2.5c.

Posted by: kelpo55

When I try to restore in iTunes (on my iBook) I get the message "itunes must check the iphone software update server to identify this device ...".

If I hit cancel nothing happens...

Is it safe to hit the check button?

Just making sure... ;-)

its safe, mine asks the same thing. It performs the check then it goes to the restore upgrade screen.

Phew, I thought it would screw things up, heh...

You should never check for software updates on the iPhone I am assuming as well...

Restored to 1.1.4...

When I run ZiPhone 2.5c it says load iTunes and restore the firmware?

I did that once (resotred to 1.1.4) but I get the same error...

I could not restore to firmware (1.1.2) (Error 1051) either...

Any ideas on this?

Are you putting the phone into DFU mode before you start the restore??

Posted by: kelpo55

Well, it is all setup now and it kicks ***...

I used ZiPhone 2.5 with the t-mobile sim in the iPhone (1.1.4) (iPhone turned on normally, no iTunes open) and it all worked unlock, jailbreak, and activate...

Installed the t-mobilezones hack for 1.1.3 and it all works including youtube... yes!!!

I am pleasantly surprised with the speed of t-mobilezones, it is not bad at all for my uses.

This is quite an amazing little sucker of a toy...

Thanks once again guys, all the frustration was worth it...

That's my story...
