1) Uninstall your current SwirlyMMS
2) Add the following source to the installer: swirlyspace.com/SwirlySpace.xml
3) Install the package named "SwirlyMMS from Swirlyspace", ver 0.3.1. Follow the installation instructions (which means you must restart your phone when installation has finsihed)
4) Have fun

Lol, that doesn't answer my question, lol. I can get it set up.. but does it count towards DATA or MMS? It really doesnt' effect me, because I have 200MMS allowance per month anyway, but I'm sure there are many out there that don't, and I want to ask and get an answer so they don't get overage charges..

make sure to add it exactly how it is(in installer). its case sensitive. swirlyspace.com/SwirlySpace.xml

ps. one other thing make sure to set the picture size under the settings menu. if you dont the other person will still get a message but no picture KTHXBYE

Does your server indicator (upper right) change from gray to green? If it doesn't, your sever settings are wrong...

I had the lady bring my iphone to me.. but i'm stuck using installer on EDGE

I got it installed and I sent her an MMS with no problem, and she sent me one with no problem, except i couldn't view it :S I received it and everything, but when i seen it in as "IN 08-02-03 1:17pm " or whatever i couldnt click it to actually see the image.

EDIT:

I had her resend and it worked, but this program isn't for me.. I'll just keep my email checking every 3 minutes like I do already and have it go that way seeing as how if I want to save it to my computer it's already there..

I want to know so that us legit iPhone users could look into actually using it w/out being charged everytime and retain them with our messaging allotment ($0.25/message isn't cheap for regular use).

Unfortunately not.. I have my employee plan that includes 2000 anytime minutes, unlimited text, 200 MMS.... so i'm jailbroken and fake activated.
Also, I was trying to go to my OLAM to see if it had registered as a MMS, but of course AT&T has a delay on that kind of data, so I won't be able to find out until tonight or tomorrow. Sorry.

On a slightly different note, when I was checking to see if it shows up as an SMS i went to data details, and it shows data at 1:45 am, 2:15 am, 2:45 am, etc.. My first reaction was that it's my email checking.. no big deal.. then i realized, i have it set to check every 15 minutes... and these are in 30 min. intervals...then I also remembered that I had Wi-Fi on all night, and it was connected.. so it makes me wonder if this is where people were getting usage hits if they leave their phone unplugged overnight (i remember a thread about this a while back). Any thoughts of what it could be?

Works with both Edge & WFi, run program once and it keeps track of all incomming MMS (don't have to leave program open), after fetching new messages you view them using MobileFinder & Preview (stored in Media/MMS folder). I'm on Tmo USA with a messaging plan.

I used it and it doesn't work for me. I tried it twice already to no avail. All the settings are correct. My plan has unlimited mms. So I dont know whats going on. I'm using mmsc.cingular.com and then the numbers under. The m on the right hand side goes from gray to green and I get the denied message. Please help

ok what do i have to do i programed the normal mms for all my unlocked phones. But when i go to send it says "mms cannot be sent right now since GRPS/EDGE is not avalible...." What can i do to fix this

The proper settings were posted on page 1 by nfl.. but I got that message the very first time i sent it, but i just sent it again and it worked.

I have received a MMS and click "fetch" and then says that all files are stored in /var/mobile/Media/MMSFiles So how am I supposed to view the pictures? I go to my pictures and they are not in there...

You have to install Mobile Finder and Mobile Preview to view the MMS you receive. Kinda dumb that the app can't just download the pictures into the picture album. Great APP non the less.

so basically you cant use it if you aready have a free mms on your iphone plan. So you would have to cll att and have them add the mms plan and have them charge you 25 cents for each mms. Im uninstalling. Great program but hopefully aple release this feature when the sdk comes out. thank you.

When I send to a tmobile person, by the way I'm using tmobile, they get the message but it will say cannot download attachment, or something like that. I try low and medium image size and doesn't work. When I send to my email it works fine.

My phone is originally FW 1.0.2 and upgraded to 1.1.1-jailbroken and unlocked on Tmobile. I tested it between iPhones and with people on Verizon and Sprint. It works well. No need to turn off wifi to send or receive.

I have the same problem and the image is landscape too so I must turn the phone on its side.

For anyone getting full size pictures, maybe you can post what Image setting you are using. That has to be the only variable unless you are using something different to view it with. I am using Finder and Viewer from Installer.

well I installed it and it works, but like some other people are saying...the pic is resized and is very very tiny. I think is could be a T-Mobile thing though. I had an unlocked Nokia 6280 and this used to happen all the time as well. Is anyone from T-Mo actually getting full sized pics received?? Just a thought

This could be why my battery was so horrible yesterday, I sent and received 2 MMS messages using it, and my battery was at 56% after 4 hours of usage...

I agree. At this point it is just idiotic that Apple has not added this in an update. They have had plenty of time and there is no reason it should be a 3rd party app.

One has to believe that ATT is bandwidth restricted and holding them back because there can't be an other sane reason. I mean we are talking about a basic feature that is available on almost every cheap *** or free phone with a camera.

Until this App downloads directly into the photo library or something it's just as easy to email or do nothing.

Here is some good info for those getting "service denied" errors. When I first installed the older version of SwirlyMMS, like most of you, I got the "service denied" error. I called AT&T to have them add MMS. They told me they could, but at a cost of $0.25 per message. It worked after that. I hadn't used it in a couple weeks because it was buggy, but then I installed the new version today and got the "service denied" error again. I called AT&T again and they told me MMS had been removed from my account. When I asked why, they said that their system does "periodic sweeps" and if it finds that an account has both the iPhone service and MMS, it will automatically turn off MMS. They re-enabled it on my account and I can now receive MMS messages on my iPhone (which is awesome). But, keep in mind that AT&T does this, so if you suddenly can't send or receive MMS, you may need to reactivate the service.

You're probably doing what I WAS doing. You were going to var/root/mobile which is what we are used to doing

go to var/mobile (not root)/media/MMSfiles

Still no ideas on this? I sent from a Nokia 5300 which said on the Nokia it resizes it to 640x480. Pics are still tiny. I sent from a TMobile Wing and a Blackberry Curve. Still all come in really really tiny. Like I said before I owned an unlocked Nokia 6280 which had the same issue. Once I went to a legit TMobile Dash, everything came in the way it should. There has to be something when you're unlocked on TMobiles network that converts these files to an extremely small size. you can send mms with ANY mms capable phone. The question is do you have a texting plan? If not you can still send but it will cost per message.

Im on Rogers but I tried to send a MMS with the new Swirly MMS, it didnt work. It said that it "Could not connect to proxy (connect failed)"

The swirly MMS icon does light up green on the top corner of my iphone. My settings are:
MMSC: mms.gprs.rogers.com
Proxy: (blank)

APN: media.com
Username: media
Password: mda01

any help?

You have to enter the proxy. It is: 172.25.0.107
I have sent and recieved mms from 6 different phones on 2 networks with no problems. All the Photos are proper size and clear.

I have sent it from my N95-2 I have sent it from my girlfriends T629 (legit tmobile phone) I have even sent it from my dads nokia 6133 (legit tmobile phone) and they all come in tiny. I downloaded the n95 faker thing from installer and now I can't even receive anything I have one pic pending it won't fetch it just errors out. I am going to uninstall and reinstall and try again.

I have sent to 2 people with Razr V3's and they all say "file too large to open" I tried resizing down to low and the same message came up and it said the picture i sent was 8kb. Limitation of the razr or swirlyMMS issue?

What N95 faker are you talking about? It's not in the SwirlySoft source. What source is it in, for info's sake?

Go into the mobilefinder settings and turn on system file access if its not on already. Then keep pressing up until you see var. The files are stored in /var/mobile/Media/MMSFiles.

If you are having problems with size etc go to this forum it should help. http://swirlymms.megabb.com/index.htm
A guy from that site used the Sony Ericsson w800i fake phone patch to correct his small mms problems. He is on T-mobile. Hope this helps.

the little "m" symbol in the taskbar has to turn green for you to fetch the MMS. At least that's what I wait for if it gives me that error

However, can someone help me out, is this an apple control-freak type limitation, or will it be improved in the future:

I'm referring to how "manual" the actual set-up is of the MMS program is. With my nokias, I can put in any country's sim card, and instantly, the phone is set up to send/receive MMS, use GPRS, and internet access.

With my iphone, everytime I change a sim, I have to go manually hunt for that providers info and punch it in (ie http://mms.mobilelife.com.th for AIS in Thailand), etc

Any future way to make this more automated? So that when you drop in a sim, the MMS program and/or the cell phone itself "search" that particular network and configure all data settings automatically, the way nokias (and every single other band of phone sold in Asia) does?

Mine didn't work for about a day. I had received an mms but could not fetch it. It came up with that same no edge or gprs blah blah blah. So I thought maybe it has to send one out to work. Well I wad right. I sent an mms so it accessed edge then when it was done sending I tried to "fetch" the one I had come in earlier and it worked fine. I just could not find the pic I had got because that crappy file system thing you have to use. I even used winscp to find the mms and it was no where.

Well, just another update on the problem of AT&T turning off MMS. I called them to turn it on again this morning, for the third time in 24 hours. I asked if there was any way for them to make sure that MMS would not get automatically taken off my account, and they said "no." They said that because the iPhone has such specific account requirements, MMS was a feature that was not supposed to be allowed. I had them turn it back on, but I'm afraid it will be turned off later today. I can't believe that no one else is having this problem. Anyone? Anyone?

I don't know why, I have the TXT message package which comes with Unlimited TXT to ATT, and 200 TXT to anyone else, which includes the MMS for some reason. I pay $9.99 a month for it.

used the fake motorola v360. Works like a charm. Pica coming in large. I set the pic size to high. If u pick do not resize then on tmobile accounts it says the file is too big and redirects u to a website to view the pic. Which is fine for me, but to those that don't have the Internet on their phones it won't work

you need mobile preview as well. tap on the image twice and it should take you to the full size image...if it doesn't, install the sony ericsson patch from the swirlyspace mms setting repo. check a few posts back (possibly pages now) to get the address

Are you guys that are able to get 3.4 working actual AT&T customers? I'm an AT&T customer, with unlimited texting, and prior to upgrading 3.3, Swirly worked fine for send and receive... today I get the Service Denied error.

Thats messed up, I never had to call. When I look at my account online it says 200 SMS and MMS... maybe you have the wrong package, or maybe its a regional thing. That sucks...

anyone else seeing a huge decrease in battery life with this installed? Someone mentioned it earlier but no one had said they were experiencing this as well. Mine seems to drop dramatically. I wonder what this thing is doing in the background that would cause such a decrease

sh********t.......downloaded Swirly MMS it kept closing on 1.1.3...so i installed Boss Tools and relocated applications...and Swirly MMS still kept closing...i resarted my phone and the phone unistalled Chat and Boss Tools

I am seeing the decrease as well, my battery didnt last the the whole day yesterday. had to charge it in the evening.

I haven't noticed any difference in battery life. As long as you use the "services" app to turn off OpenSSH when you don't need it, battery life is great!

you downloaded the wrong swirlyMMS you need to get the one from swirly

i downloaded the one in installer and it kept closing, then i added swirly to my sources and got it from them and it works

Seems to me that the developers don't really spend that much time on this program. It took them forever to get from only sending MMS to receiving it. I would donate, but I don't think I would see my money used. This is a major app that EVERYONE wants, we should have people on it who are willing to put in the time.

^that's exactly what I'm saying. This is a major feature that should have been included in the release of the phone itself, I'm sure we ALL feel that way, so I would think someone would improve on it a little bit. IMO, just making the MMS be deliverable to your camera roll would make the app perfect. Shouldn't be too hard for a knowledgable person to do...not being me of course because I don't know too much about the coding, but someone I'm sure can chime in and see what needs to be done.

Updated last night to the newest version...

Restarted the iPhone and it crashed the OS...

Had to do a restore...

I'm starting to wonder now if alot of these third party apps are worth it...

The times I had to restore my iPhone just because of one program...

Apple should had done this right the first time and had this feature in the OS...

Couldn't agree with you more. My 40 dollar SonyEriccison would send and receive pics via mms TWO years ago, from the factory. Fully automated. Just pop in any sim from any country, and boom, it worked fine.

I'm still in shock my 750 dollar iPhone wont do that. (yet)

Hopefully its fixed by apple soon...

How do you get this to work with t-zones? I recently bought a new 16gb iphone and used iplus to u/j/a and then applied big boss beta/t-zones 1.1.3 hack. Google maps, safari, and youtube working on EDGE but yahoo weather and stocks not working on EDGE at all. Also, swirly mms installed from "installer" would turn on and immediately turn off while kicking off my wifi settings in the process. How do you get this thing to work? Also, is there any way for weather and stocks to work on t-zones EDGE? And finally, what is SSH and how do you shut it off if not using it (as I hear it drains battery)?

Is your GPRS/EDGE working at all? If so, just wondering, what are your EDGE settings (as they appear in the EDGE menu in iPhone's Settings)? I've been trying to figure this part out for months.

I tried the settings I found on this topic (the settings were for WM phones but were in a format that an iPhone should be able to use), but they failed to work for me, neither the GPRS/EDGE settings nor the MMS ones.

if you're using the MMS app with tzones,you're probably using a flex account..make sure you have some bucks in the flex account because that's where your SMS $$ comes from AND your MMS.i tried to sign up for their $4.99/month SMS plan but they wouldnt let me..strange,though,since i could sign up for the $5.99/month e-mail plan...

I have used this app many many times sending and receiving. It works but not all the time. I have to try to "fetch" my pic that someone sent me a few times before it works. I can just never find where the damn app stores the pic. I wish I could change the file path to where it saves. Someone make a swirly app where you are able to change where the incoming pic saves to.

Would be nice if the developers weren't slagging *** over this, or atleast let someone else takeover. An update for the GUI should not take this long. I remember the guy who made the Converter program was making an update everyday to the GUI, and now it kicks ***.

1.1.4 on att works sporadically at best for me. It locks my device in the mobile viewer part about half the time. It did this on 3.4 and 3.5 as well. I had to uninstall..program was way too unstable for me.

I actually was messing with SSH on the phone just now and found where it stores the pics. It even stores the audio file of an animated gif someone sent me as a message.

root/private/var/mobile/media/mmsfiles. That is where it stores them on my phone anyways.

I realize there is a program that will keep SSH off even if you restart your phone, but I like to have it on after a restart in case I screw up my phone, I can still access it via SSH. I'm on 1.1.3.

yes, just use the mobile finder, make sure you have the picture viewer plugin... Im not a programmer, but Im sure its not too tough of a task to make SwirlyMMS utilize a picture viewer within the program so it wouldnt be so bothersome to view them.. or better yet put them in the camera roll... other programs like IMGrab have no problem saving pics and putting them in the camera roll.. why cant they use some of the source code from that program and have it save the picture, along with a thumbnail and place it in the camera roll?

dont get me wrong, I love the program, it brings what the iphone has been missing for a long time to reality, Im just nitpicking in hopes they will make it better soon...

if you're talking about deleting the actual pic that is stored, just click file then delete when you're in mobile viewer or mobile finder. there are buttons all along the bottom of the app

I don't think its as easy as just changing where it saves the pics, I think you also have to include code that creates a second smaller pic to use as a thumbnail or else it won't show up in the camera roll. But like u said, it shouldnt be too hard... I had to change the some of the code in IMGrab so it would save the images to the correct directory and I saw the code that saves the image, places it into the camera roll and creates a thumbnail.. It wasn't really complex, I don't see why they can't implement this kind of thing into it.. Or rather why they haven't already.

yes, that I know. I saw the code on both apps, IMGrab as well. Doesnt look difficult I just dont know why someone hasn't done it. Like I said, if I knew a little more about the code I would attempt it myself. Not saying that one line will fix it, but there are several lines that will move the pic, create a thumbnail and a unique name for each pic being saved

it is cimbersome but you can levae where the files are stored open in mobile finder. so when you click mobile finder it's right there all the time. Make sure you have mobile finder installed, along with mobile preview, then ope mobile finder, click ~ button, click media, mms files, and it will always keep this folder open.

Like i said cumbersome yes, but at least we do have MMS.

Another note, is that it is best to wait until the M turns green before you can fetch your MMS. Ive had no problems with this app. Does it need work yes, but i am happy.

I have it set up so all I press is mobilepreview and it opens where the pictures are stored everytime. No searching through folders. Two steps. Fetch, open mobile preview. Fast and easy. Not hard to set up.

Obviously I am going to ask how you got it to open up and go to the right place? Did you just find it one day and leave it like that? Or is there a way to change some sort of setting?
