iPhone can now SEND & RECEIVE mms!

Well what I did was install both programs mobilefinder and preview. Then I open mobilefinder and went to settings turned on system file access. Then kept hitting up until I found the var folder, then found where the pictures are being stored/var/mobile/Media/MMSFiles etc. Went back to settings and made sure the correct location was entered in the startup line. Turn off start in last Location, you can leave it on if you want. Closed it and opened mobile preview, pressed open on the top left and it open right where the pictures are saved. I hope this helps.

Posted by: kloquewerk

the problem that I'm having is that mobile finder and preview crash on me sometimes. that's one reason why I'm tired of it as well. sometimes I can go in there and send the files to an email, modify the file, but other times it freezes my phone then reboots. I think it would be much easier if it goes to the camera roll so we can do more things with the file. Just my opinion though

That does help. Nice little shortcut. Thanks for the info. I am sure more than just me will be reading this post.

don't mean to threadjack or anything, I setup my Mobile Finder to automatically open the MMSFiles folder as well, I had it like this before but changed it back to Applications, and now it crashed MobileFinder everytime I open it. I uninstalled the app and reinstalled but it still defaults to that folder. It will stay open for about 2 seconds then crash back to the springboard. Any ideas on how to solve this?

anyone else having recent trouble sending mms from att iphones? it says my mmsc settings are incorrect but they havent changed... and ive double and tripple checked them. what could be wrong?

Posted by: hyperspeedy

im having the same problems.

the past few days havent been able to send MMS through att.

before i was using cingulars settings. i found att's but theyre not working either.

AT&T's settings (currently dont work)

Posted by: Reznor9

Problem there is that you still can't zoom or rotate the pic. I want it to send it to the camera roll along with a thumbnail so I can view it as I do my other photos, and set it up for my background or use it as a picture for one of my contacts u know?

Those are the 'old' AT&TWS (a.k.a. Cingular Blue after the acquisition in 2004) settings which only work for those retaining legacy accounts under AT&TWS that can use mMode.

The Cingular settings are the ones used by most accounts with the new at&t and are current.

You're probably experiencing an issue that is related to the bugginess of the software, not the MMS settings.
Does MMS work on other phones that you use with your SIM?

Posted by: vandy1997

I am using SwirlyMMS v 0.3.5 on AT&T, with the following settings:

MMSC: mmsc.cingular.com
Proxy: 066.209.011.032
Image Size: High

Everything else is left blank!! I called AT&T to add the unlimited MMS plan and asked them to activate MMS on my account. I can send and receive MMS messages without a problem (knock on wood). It seems like there are so many firmware versions, jailbreak, activation, unlock methods, and fixes to each method that nobody knows what is affecting the phones, as each method and fix modifies different files.

What did they say the Unlimited MMS plan cost? When I called, they said that there is no MMS plan on the iphone (yeah, we know that...) and the only option was to attempt to turn the feature on for my account at a rate of $0.25 per send and receive. Ouch...

Posted by: ATT*Mark

ok guys I found the answer to the problems. If you have had mms enabled on your iphone acount, the system will automatically flag if you use the iphone for mms since the iphone is not provisioned. today I plugged in my 8310 and tried to send an mms with that phone, getting error messages. When I called they had to use snooper to look at the provisioning. Somehow, even though the 8310 is mms capable, the system flagged and deleted it because a non MMS capable phone was used on that sim....only phone without MMS I use is the iPhone. So thats the problem. you guys will have to keep adding that feature because the system will keep removing it.

Just tried to send MMS with the iphone after talking to CS and it worked fine. SO everyone having problems with their iphones all of a sudden not sending MMS , thats the issue....

Posted by: hyperspeedy

how lame. how do they know that im on an iphone if my iphone is an unlocked one?

Here is the error message btw: (i changed it back to ATT mmsc settings)

Failed to send MMS
Possible incorrect mmsc setting.

Coynster, it's $20 additional per month for the iPhone plan, so I am paying $40 for unlimited data and messaging. It shows up on my statement as follows: IPHONE DATA + UNL $40.00. Here is what I did (updated the iPhone plan to unlimited): http://swirlymms.megabb.com/support...att-usa-t23.htm . Here is what another user did (more popular - added non-iPhone plan with MMS): http://swirlymms.megabb.com/support...-on-att-t65.htm . When I called AT&T the first time, it was not working because, as the operator told me, the MMS feature was not activated. Some people have requested the 25 cents pay per use - it seems to work but it seems to get wiped out by the system when the system detects that the account is for an iPhone. It seems like the $20 unlimited messaging plan and the $30 unlimited messaging family plan are not being wiped out. I have had mine on for 10 days without any issue, but this whole system seems to be erratic, because as far as AT&T is concerned, nobody is supposed to be sending/receiving MMS messages on an iPhone!!

Posted by: Jovian

just get your imei changed to another phone other than the iphone and it wont get wiped out anymore

Posted by: Coynster

Excellent update - Yes, I did call them, they did set the flag, so now I guess I'm just a sitting goose until it gets automatically removed. Thank you for your detailed, extremely clear directions on how you've managed. I, unfortunately don't MMS an extra $20 per month to go the Unlimited route, but I appreciate the option.

Thank you for a great response!

I don't send many MMS messages either. I will leave it on for one month and then try to remove just the unlimited messaging it to see if the MMS feature remains on. Technically, as long as the MMS feature is on, iPhone users should be able to send MMS messages, but they will cost one SMS message plus 5 cents. So it will reduce your SMS amount as well. If they remove the MMS feature, I will try to add the 200 MMS feature for an additional $5 per month - it should work as long as the MMS feature is switched on. It seems like the key is to find an option that is not subject to being switched off by the AT&T system. It seems like hit or miss right now. It does not seem like Apple is going to add MMS, or they would have done it already - like an FM radio tuner - they probably see these as features of the past - but it is still nice to have them or to have an option to install it if you choose to use it. And it probably will not be allowed via the SDK since it would need to access some of the OS services that will be off limits to SDK developers. So it will likely remain a feature offered by the non-SDK developers.

Posted by: JJones_86

I only have the $10 plan which is Unlimited to ATT, and 200 to anyone else. MMs has never stopped working for me.

Just tried to send MMS with the iphone after talking to CS and it worked fine. SO everyone having problems with their iphones all of a sudden not sending MMS , thats the issue....

I explained this problem on page 6 of this thread (post #81):

"Here is some good info for those getting "service denied" errors. When I first installed the older version of SwirlyMMS, like most of you, I got the "service denied" error. I called AT&T to have them add MMS. They told me they could, but at a cost of $0.25 per message. It worked after that. I hadn't used it in a couple weeks because it was buggy, but then I installed the new version today and got the "service denied" error again. I called AT&T again and they told me MMS had been removed from my account. When I asked why, they said that their system does "periodic sweeps" and if it finds that an account has both the iPhone service and MMS, it will automatically turn off MMS. They re-enabled it on my account and I can now receive MMS messages on my iPhone (which is awesome). But, keep in mind that AT&T does this, so if you suddenly can't send or receive MMS, you may need to reactivate the service."

Posted by: sumsh

Ok, I tried the method of adding MMS with AT&T outlined here: http://swirlymms.megabb.com/support...-on-att-t65.htm

And using the correct MMSC settings, I now get this error: "Failed to send MMS Possible incorrect mmsc setting. Unexpected http response (HTTP/1.1 403 forbidden)."

Any ideas?

EDIT: I put my sim card into my Blackjack and sent a picture message and it worked. So this means that the above problem is only happening on iPhones.

Posted by: lelety

I ll try it out on my Iphone!

Posted by: vandy1997

sumsh, try to post on the SwirlyMMS board, since the developer answers questions there. I am not sure why the settings are not working, but it does not make any sense. Did you upgrade your firmware? And did you set up a new phone when you restored, or did you use settings from a prior synch? It seems like a lot of people who are using settings from prior synchs when upgrading firmware are having a lot of quirky stuff happening on their phones.

Yes, I did post this info over at the SwirlyMMS board. I'm on 1.1.4, but did a full restore, then re-jailbroke with Ziphone. There is actually a thread dedicated to the error I was seeing, apparently other people are getting it as well. I think AT&T may have caught on changed something to prevent the iPhone from sending MMS.

Posted by: vandy1997

Good luck. I don't know why AT&T should care as long as they're getting paid for the MMS messages. It is really silly. Mine is working for now, but it could be a temporary feature! This phone is capable of doing so much. It's too bad that these companies decide to cripple it to such a great extent.

hey. yes my gprs/edge works. Wish I could help you with settings but there isnt anything there!?! All that I get is the advanced settings and I dont put anything there. Does it just pull the info from my sim and thats enough? Let me know if theres anywhere else I can look to get them for you. Also if you happen to get it working with mms be sure to let me know....

and to be more specific, the steps I took were going to Settings -> General -> Network -> then Clicked EDGE. All I get is Advanced with the option of putting in APN (which is blank) and username and pass which are both blank as well.

Wow. The last time I saw this thread it was one page only. Well, my issue is this. I was able to send mms but I hadn't been using mms for awhile until now. I also get the
follow message aswell.

"Failed to send MMS Possible incorrect mmsc setting. Unexpected http response (HTTP/1.1 403 forbidden)."

I am an existing cingular customer with the combo data/sms/mms package. Is it true that ATT "FLAGED" the iphone for any user who didn't sign up a new mms package??

Installer - Sources - Edit - Add - AddSource ...

Just type in swirlyspace.com/SwirlySpace.xml
Note that this is case sensitive and that there are 2 capital S's there...

Click OK...
Installer will Refresh Sources...
In your Sources List you will have Swirlyspace

Works on Rogers F/W: 1.1.4

Sheesh, I'm having a heck of a time here.

I can send and receive mms's okay, but I can't (of course) view my incoming mms files.

So I go to download and install MobilePreview

Can't do that with out installing MobileFinder first... Ok

I try to install MobileFinder....

Can't do that with out installing BSD Subsystem package first.

I try to install the BSD Subsystem package and I get an error "MobileFinder requires the BSD Subsystem package".

The BSD Subsystem package I'm trying to install is v2.1.

Any ideas?

Thanks

you need to go to mobile finder and remove it from your queue, then install bsd subsystems and then you will be able to install mobile finder and preview

You have to wait till the M on top right of the screen turns green. Then you can fetch them.

Nope, the phone has to be jailbroken to even attempt it, plus it won't work with legit iPhone data plans.

SwirlyMMS 0.3.7 on 1.1.4 with mediafinder and preview. I can receive MMS and send them but when the people get my MMS it tells them it is too larger or not supported for them. One of them was using a Razr2 and both could send to me. I have the size on minimum or low and have also used the faker patch. Any ideas on why they can't view the picture i send? It gives me no errors and says sent on my end.
Thanks

Posted by: cubs6

so who has at t and has it working??? And if so what are the settings u are using, like the numbers and stuff under swirley mms settings??

Posted by: cubs6

it says for me possible wrong mmsc setting. Who has right ones for at t?

Posted by: less2

I have a refurb unlocked 8G working off a black berry account.
mmsc.cingular.com
proxy: 066.209.011.032
But I think ATT is doing some thing to the mms. my Swirly MMS worked fine for about a day. I received a message and tried to fetch it, couldnt get it. I kept getting a error. So I popped my sim back into my black berry and called ATT they reset some thing and I began using my mms after putting my sim back into my iphone. I sent a couple of PICs on my iphone, every thing was fine for about another 12 hours. Then I received that mms that I couldnt fetch again and Swirly MMS is down again. I say all that to say good luck because like I said, I think Att is sending some thing that revokes permission for the program to work.

Posted by: ipodlover77

i think the rumor that ATT was redflagging accounts that were sending MMS from the iphone is true. The same thing happened to me. It worked perfectly but all of a sudden it gave me error messages when i put in the settings correctly.

MobileTextEdit & MobilePreview don't work on v1.1.4. I hope they fix it soon. I wish SwirlyMMS could open messages directly within the app instead of opening it up using Finder.

Since MobilePreview doesn't work for me, I have to move the MMS pic to the album using Finder, create a thumbnail file, then launch the Photos app just to see it. It's a pain, but it works for now.

SwirlyMMS makes it pretty easy to send pics, though.

I am on 1.1.4 with Rogers. I keep my size at medium. I don't need to have edge turned on for it to work, never did. I have another phone that doesn't have the edge settings entered on the phone and I can send pics. So you don't need to to have edge on for it work. I know a lot of people that use swirly and they don't have a data plan or the edge settings and it works perfectly for them.

EDGE has to be turned on.. you don't to have the seetings in or a data plan.. but edge needs to be active.. (meaning if you are using boss prefs or whatever.. you need to flick the on switch... if edge is off mms won't be able to retrieve or send.. the green M won't light up

Ok I did not make myself sound right. I was just trying to say you don't need to use edge data to send mms. I have bossprefs and it is turned on and my other phone doesn't have it installed at all. That's what I was trying to say.

Yes, if you are refering to the settings in swirlymms, I put it on the lowest, the recipient said it was only 7kbs but still couldn't open it. Said it was too large. Another person's phone said it was wrong file or something. I couldn't even resend him the picture he send me that he took from his phone. I received his fine and moved it to camera roll and sent it back. Makes no sense to me.

after reading the first and last page... i have ATT with an unlocked iphone. typed in the correct settings. when trying to send an MMS i receive a failed message stating 'unexpected http response (http/1.1 403 forbidden).'

so are ATT users really getting screwed with this or is something wrong with my settings? i dont have anything entered in the MMS- specific APN settings and have image size set to medium.

Off topic sorry, but how did you move the pic from that MMSfiles folder to the camera roll?? Anyone knows? I'd like to be able to do this

- Install Finder
- Move image file from MMSFiles to DCIM/100Apple folder
- Copy image file into the same folder
- Rename the file and replace .JPG with .THM (ALL CAPS!)

AT&T Users are getting screwed - the iPhone is listed as non-MMS compatible, so even if you call, which many of us have done, and add MMS to your plan, the system self-corrects and removes the option from your account since your phone is incompatible to send/receive MMS and automatically removes the MMS flag on your account.

Sucks, Swirly works great while the flag is functioning for the short period of time.

Posted by: Asharus

Swirly works fine on ATT, but you need to change the IMEI on your phone to a spare phone that is MMS capable.

I have copied pictures to the camera roll and it worked. But the problem is that when you rename the jpg to thm the picture still stays the same size. So when you try and send an mms from the camera roll the picture will be huge not a small thumbnail. People where trying to fix this at the swirly mms forum but couldn't resize the jpg to thm size with mobilefinder.

This is what I used . From the swirly mms forum. Hope this helps.

1) open mobile finder
2) browse to picture (~/Media/MMSFiles)
3) select picture and hit file, copy or move
4) go up a level
5) open DCIM
6) open 100APPLE (~/Media/DCIM/100APPLE)
7) paste file
8 ) rename file to IMG_(next number).JPG*
9) copy file
10) paste file
11) rename that copy to IMG_(next number).THM* (this is so that thumbnails show up in camera roll)
12) exit MobileFinder
13) open Photo's

*MAKE SURE TO CAPITALIZE EVERYTHING CORRECTLY, if you don't capitalize IMG or
THM or JPG then it won't work.

If you wish to send pictures from your phone do not make thumbnails (.THM) files for viewing in camera roll. swirlyMMS does not scale the images down thus making it impossible to "find" a picture to send in the app. We are working on a temporary fix in the following pages of this thread

Open mobilefinder go into settings turn on system file access then go back. Now keep pressing the up located in the top left of the screen until you see the var folder. It will be located under etc folder. Go into the var folder, you will see the mobile folder go into that. Now you will see the media folder go into that. Finally you will see the MMSFiles folder. Thats where the pictures are. Now you can set it up so everytime you go into mobilepreview it will open where the mms are stored.

thanks dude.

You can put me on the list for that error message now to it was working fine untill like last week...Darn ATT! Maybe we can hope for mms with the 3g iphone

Posted by: canadian studen

That worked thanks so much guys.

Posted by: Asharus

I can receive the pics just fine, but if someone includes text via MMS, it saves it in this other format that viewer cant open. Is there a way to view the text besides via ssh?

i may have just answered my question... mobiletextedit

Have you actually done this? Want to fill us in on the details?

Posted by: cubs6

Ok so what if u got the family unlimited which includes text, pic and everything on it??

Posted by: khangul

if you have AT&T and have it working fine, can you PLEASE PLEASE tell us what's the setting you're using... thanks in advance...

Posted by: unistork

How can I send a picture from my Photos I sycned with iTunes, instead of just my Camera Pictures??

Posted by: jagogo

i also had to change the imei of the iphone to one from an old razr. then it started working fine. i used ziphone and chose the change imei option. it says its for educational purposes but it does the job. then use the settings on the swirly website and make sure wifi is off.

Posted by: teride

I've already done jailbreak, unlock & activation thru iLiberty. Can I just select change IMEI in Ziphone to change the number?

Posted by: unistork

How do I send pictures from my Photos and not Camera Roll?

Posted by: canadian studen

I think you can only send those through e-mail, and not swirly. Unless you do some copy/paste using mobile finder.

Posted by: kloquewerk

Anyone on T-Mobile getting an error today when trying to receive MMS?? Mine has worked fine but today I had 3 different people send me MMS's and I got an error when trying to fetch them. The error says:

Could not fetch any MMS
Check your settings!

Or sometimes it will say:

The error reported: message not found
Could not fetch any MMS
Check your settings!

This barely started today and I haven't touched any settings on the phone. Only thing is I installed Customize 2.0 last night. Any suggestions or is anyone else experiencing this?

Posted by: kloquewerk

nevermind on my above statement. my phone was trippin for some reason so I restored and it's working again

Posted by: harlenm

So, is there actually a way to get this to work with an ATT iPhone plan? Or

Posted by: kloquewerk

jailbreak and use ZiPhone to change you IMEI. Heard that's the only way it's working now

Posted by: marquis19

i installed mobile finder and preview and i sent myself a picture but when i locate it and doubble click on the file nothing happens. Before i clicked on the picture and I got a black screan. please help

Posted by: sc0rpio

I had the same problem. I use WildEyes instead. It works for me.

Posted by: marquis19

i used ziphone to change my imei number to my q9h but i still cant send pictures. it was working fine yesterday but after i turned my phone on this morning its no longer working correctly. it says settings are not correct

quick question...

I am new to the whole unlocking ordeal...

I unlocked, jailbroke, etc.. etc.. with iliberty+ and I am trying to get swirly or some sort of MMS app on my iphone. Is CYDIA an installer?

Can someone walk me through via PM or this thread?

Posted by: DaRtHXtC

My iPhone on AT&T works flawlessly with this. I also have a family plan that has unlimited messaging. I'm running jailbroken 1.1.4 with SwirlyMMS 0.3.8.

Cydia is a different installer app. I'm not sure how it works, but you should've enabled Installer in iLiberty+ instead of Cydia.

Got installer installed along with Cydia!!

dern swirly MMS isnt working for AT&T!

Posted by: klowngoblin

is it me or is it totally rediculous to jail break your phone, then hack your IMEI to trick your provider into thinking your phone is a blackberry or something just to get ****ing MMS to work?

not only that, some mms programs you have to PAY FOR? after paying $600 for a phone with a contract? (original price that is)

while EVERY OTHER PHONE on the market has MMS out of the box?

Posted by: duceduc

this for anyone who has changed their imei number for mms to work. Is it still working for you?

Thats AT&TRASH for you!!

Is it me or is it ridiculous to expect a company's first new product line to include every feature? Did Nokia's first phone have mms? What about Motorola's? When you complain about excluded features, you sound like adults making fun of a toddler for not knowing how to run.

Posted by: aciras

But Nokia's earlier phones had all the features available at that time. Obviously not all the Nokias were fully packed, but since they had several phones to offer they could pick and choose which features to add into each model.

In Apple's case, they only have 1 phone, and considering even the "dumbest" Nokias and SEs have MMS built in today, it does seem strange Apple didn't include it out of the box.

But ya, I agree people should cut them some slack; this is their first phone and it's built more for it's iPod functions than phone functions. Hopefully for their 2nd generation they will beef up the phone features.

It's well worth the 8 bucks.

Posted by: TOPDOG9000

Anyone know if SwirlyMMS drains the battery life faster. I downloaded 1.0 yesterday and it works awesome on t-mobile, but it seemed like my battery was drained and my usage timer kept increasing even though I wanst using the phone. Its an awesome app and I wouldnt mind spending the $8 dollars on it, just wanna know if it does hurt the battery before I drop the money...thanks again

Posted by: t-bone-t

I think you would have to be a complete idiot to pay for it now with 2.0 looming on the horizon and with it the strong possibility of an official program.

Posted by: TOPDOG9000

while your opinion is valid and I prob will wait, I didnt ask for it. Simply put i have 14 days to try this app out and also wait for 2.0. However in the process of trying this app out I just wanted to know if it was constantly running or draining my battery.

Posted by: kloquewerk

is does drain your battery quicker. this has been the case since the first version release of Swirly. And it is indeed worth the 8 bucks, regardless if there will be an "official release" with 2.0...which of course is all speculation.

Posted by: AsahiToro

Where can we download SwirlyMMS?

Thanks.

Are you kidding? Motorola and Nokias first phones? Do you know how long ago that was? People werent even texting, let alone sending pics. Apple came onto the scene in the middle of a text/MMS/video boom.

Is this still your stance now that 3g wont have MMS? I think its utterly stupid for a multimedia device to lack a SIMPLE MMS feature.

i concur. it's retarded to compare companies first devices from up to or even beyond 20 years ago to something current as a excuse for dropping the ball on a simple feature like MMS on a phone nearly totally based on entertainment.

Do you really think an official app will be in the appstore??

Apple did a great job listening to enterprise clients, i just wish they did a better job listening to its regular clients that asked for copy & paste, chat, and MMS.

updates, updates, updates!

Yea, probably just you

<sarcasm>How dare anyone compare Apple's first release to a 1998 Nokia phone! </sarcasm>

Posted by: ripperbone

i like the new update. its worth the $8. and you are able to see the pictures without having to go threw preview and finder

you guys complain about not having MMS, so go get swirly MMS and quit your *****in

Let's examine that little "dropping the ball" bit. Are you trying to say that Apple couldn't make an MMS program for the iPhone? If anybody has dropped the ball, it is AT&T. I've only successfully sent an MMS about 50% of the time. Sometimes the picture ends up being all black, sometimes the video doesn't play, sometimes the video doesn't have sound, and the other half of the time it works. Apple's philosophy is often quoted "It just works" but MMS quite clearly doesn't "just work". Apparently I'm the only one here that won't settle for 50% success rates.
