BSD Subsystem and Battery Drain

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hi,

I've been using my phone at 1.0.2 and was able to go 2-3 days without getting a full charge. Last night I put the following on the phone:

Installer app, BSD Subsystem, Navizon GPS, and iphysics.

Since then the battery seems to drain extremely fast. I tried to uninstall BSD subsystem using the installer app, and the only choice is to "Reinstall".

Is there anyway to remove BSD subsystem without clearing everything off the phone?

Thanks

Simple answer: not really.

Longer answer: If you can manage to remove the files manually, then it's possible. The caveat of this is that you'd need to have SSH access or Terminal access to the file system (which means you'd need the BSD Subsystem to do the work as well, which is what you want to remove... see the point?).

Plus, many programs need the BSD Subsys to operate or install.

Finally, it may not be the BSD Subsystem that is doing the battery drain. Navizon, for example attempts to use a data connection when in operation and that will drain battery (a lot if used frequently). Just a little FYI.

Hope this helps.

I didn't have battery drain with BSD, BUT....when I had Navizon on the phone for a short time it seemed like it was sucking the battery dry. Every time I woke the phone up to check mail etc. the battery was lower and lower. Got rid of Navizon and the battery drain seemed to stop.

You have SSH running in the background it seems.
Download services.app (or similar) and turn it off.
Battery life should improve quite a bit.

Good luck

The OP never mentioned having SSH installed, Phreakish, unless the OP told you that in a PM or something.

Jailbreaking 1.0.2 automatically installed SSH as far as I can remember hence the assumption.

Might be worth looking into as SSH server will continually sent a signal hence draining the battery significantly.

I jailbroke the phone back in Aug/Sep last year, if SSH was installed it hasn't effected the battery. The quick drain started right after installing the apps listed in my original post.

I fully charged the phone last night and see how the charge lasts over the next couple days. If it dies quick i'll try uninstalling Navizon and try a full charge again.

Thanks for the responses!

This may be a good time to just upgrade to 1.1.4 and jailbreak/activate/unlock. You will get the Navizon feature built right in to google maps, and there have been significant improvements across the different firmware versions.
