Back To WinMo

I have been pushing Nokia's for the last few months and they are great phones, but after about 5 months or so, I was really missing Windows.

Right now I am using the O2 Atom Life. It is small like the HTC Touch, but has a 624MHz processor. The beauty of it is that it has 1900 & 2100 HSDPA, so I get great AT&T 3G service with the 1900. Something I couldn't get with the Touch.

Nokia is solid, I have to say that. The N95 and the N82 almost never crashed or froze on me. I really found myself missing 3G a lot.

I was going to grab a Touch Cruise, but since O2 (MWg) sent me a free Atom Life, I figured why not use this instead.

Its good to be back....

Free is good. Welcome back!

Yup, same thing for me. It's just that WM helps me get more things done than other platforms right now. I'll keep trying other devices, but for now I have yet to find something else to be my workhorse.

I am just hoping to find a winmob that can stream vid's like my n95-3.

Yeah, also I now realize how far ahead Nokia is with the camera they put on their phones. The N95 and N82 had such amazing cameras, especially the N82 with that xenon flash.

This 2MP camera on my Atom Life is garbage. I have taken better pics from a disposable camera I bought from the 99 cent store.

Maevro, glad you're back!

@JWY, what's your current workhorse?

welcome back....the atom doesn't have a flush screen, does it?

No, which was a concern of mine.

They created the bezel so that it slopes down so it makes it a lot easier to get into the corners unlike other touchscreen phones. Every non flush WM phone should be designed like this. You don't get the same problem with hitting the X in the corner.

I missed touchscreen and 3G....

I never really leave WM, but use phone-less PPC
HP H1945, RX3115, RX3715, HX2415, HX2495b, 211
Dell Axim X30m, X50v, X51v
T-mobile SDA, MDA
Asus A626
oops! where are other T-Mobile users?
are they killed?!

Still the Kaiser. I'm still waiting for something to succeed it -- maybe the X1 or TyTN III, but I would like a static QWERTY. Someone should really try to make a multimedia focused WM device.

Posted by: maevro

You see that the X1 might be sold as a branded AT&T phone. I am an AT&T customer, but I do not want to see that happen.

Good to see you are back and good to see that you are willing to try different platforms as well. I am soon to take a dip with a symbian device myself. Looking at the devices that are out now I really like the N95 and E90 however I might have to wait for the N96. Anywho I have the XDA Flame and I believe our devices operate on the same bandwith. However I never get the 3g signal you are speaking of (I also have ATT). Is it just because you are in New York that you receive the 3g connection (Different 3G band in Florida?) I love my device and would love to experience it on a 3g network....

Also @ Mavero why wouldnt you like to see the sony come to ATT?

Back to WM, eh? I have all but abandoned WM in favor of the iPhone. I know, I know, I'll probably catch some crap for this one, but it's WAY more usable, and I don't see the need for immediate email delivery. (I have argued in the past that no one NEEDS immediate email delivery, but they simply want it and have grown accustomed to it, and I still stand by that argument; not to mention that email wasn't designed for instant delivery anyway, and still can't be relied upon for instant communication. I know people who FREAK OUT when their BlackBerry stops working, even if Outlook is down as well they're complaining about their BB (usually due to a server outage of some sort). But I digress...)

Things I miss from WM:
Things I favor on the iPhone:
I can't wait for the 3G iPhone - that will really solve my biggest concern of DUN, and I'd like to see better third-party app support (SDK or not, Apple needs to standardize their platform and stick with it).

Sorry guys, I've decided Windows Mobile sucks. Too bad for Microsoft - as always, too little, too late. WM7 had better rock to get me back as a customer (and from what I've read from Urban, it just might).

EDIT: Oh man, it's over!

The Atom Life runs 1900 & 2100 for 3G. AT&T's 3G bands are 850 and 1900, but 99% of the time, it is just 1900 so thats why I get such great 3G AT&T service. The Flame just runs 2100 and lacks 1900, thats why you dont get any 3G service.

I think AT&T will cripple the X1 personally. The only good side to it is that it will bring the price down so more people will purchase it. I am a child because I dont like everyone having the same phone as me. I can admit it.

I was a big fan of Symbian because it was reliable. I really loved the E90 and N82, but without US 3G, they becamse worthless to me. What I miss most is the camera of the N82.

This Atom Life is tiny, a drop larger then the HTC Touch. I love how it feels in my hand, it is fast, very responsive, reliable and has 3G.

All of my email and texts work well on it and I am happy. To each their own I guess. I probably would have stayed with Nokia if we didn't build a relationship with MWg (o2) and they didnt send me this phone.

I dont know, I am happy with this phone right now.

@ Maevro damn it man I wish I had that 1900 as well than because it would make my Flame the perfect device. Have you used the flame before? If so how do you compare devices? I will have to make a trip to pdadb.net and take a look after typing this. Hopefully MWG will have an update with wm6 for the Flame shortly (do you have any insight on this?) Well thanks for getting me clear on the band differences I really do appreciate it. Enjoy your new device especially at the cost of nothing....

I like the Flame, but its too large for me personally. I mean you dont get a screen larger then the Flames, I think its larger then the iphone even.

Posted by: aktopshooter

Yea that looks like a huge sreen lost. I like my Flame its basically not to far in screen size from the x7510 or x7501 which I would like to get. It fits right in my pocket and I have grown to not even notice it unless wearing tight jeans or so but for the most it's like any of my my other phones. Thanks for the chart man
