Heya,

I am pretty new to the iPhone and knowing to press the sleep/wake and home button at the mac icon to enter DFU mode took awhile to figure out.

So I present this step by step tutorial on how to enter dfu mode from start to finish with the order of when to plugin the iPhone and when to run the corresponding applications (iTunes) etc...

This is taken from jamis0n (he gets the credit :->):

To DFU we go:

1. turning off iphone (disconnected from Macbook)
2. opening iTunes
3. Connecting usb cable
4. Pressing and holding HOME and SLEEP as soon as apple icon appears
5. Holding for exactly 10 seconds
6. Letting go of SLEEP while still holding home (no cable or itunes logo - black screen)
7. Itunes pops up and says iphone in restore mode

Here are some extra steps (not part of entering DFU mode) to restore your firmware with iTunes once in the in DUF mode...,

8. Use option + click to select downloaded 1.1.4 firmware
9. Restore in itunes (ALL white screen appears momentarily, then Apple logo with 'busy' swirl at bottom while restoring)
10. Close Itunes
11. Run 'Do It All' in ziPhone 2.5c for Mac (GUI)
12. Restart iPhone

I hope this helps...

I found an even easier way for people...

Install iFuntastic 500r002 (Mac)
Goto Setup and Troubleshooting
Click on Enter DFU Mode / Restore
Be ready to hold down home and sleep/wake button when it tells you to
Be ready to release the sleep/wake but continually hold the home button when it tells you to
It will then read in the top left corner that you are in DFU mode

Piece of cake... :-D

ZiPhone will do it for you also.

I assume you are unaware of the existing sticky explaining how to enter DFU mode?!? Before you ask for something to be added as a sticky you should make sure its not already there.

I am not trying to start anything, I just want to help people.

I read the wiki on dfu mode but there are other ways (some easier) that people may not be aware of...

ZiPhone does not always work to enter dfu mode on damaged iPhones like mine was...

With all due respect, please take this information under advisement...
