Okay so i've been using the phone for a day and i came upon many things that confuses me..

1) I can't type in the first letter to do a phonebook search. i type in H and it wont search for home, any solution?

2) When someone calls me with 416XXXXXXX my phonebook doesn't show, but it'll show when their number is +1416XXXXXXX, any solution?

2nd question no solution and can't be solved, the only thing you can do is to save both number like 1-949-xxx-xxxx and 949-xxx-xxxx under the same name.

1st question, you have to add "reading" to your contacts. Check if your readings are all there. Then make sure your setting is set to "sort by reading". I am using 904 and i don't have a problem with that

3) Seems like you can't the the voicemail number on the SH905i ??
Once i go into Voice Mail setting, it just dials the number.. there's no option setting the number. Any solution?

you can sort by reading. its the second field in the phone book entry for the contact. its basically entering the person's name twice..just like when i had my 902 and 903..and caps do matter

OH okay thanks...

Also, i bought a SD card for the phone but seems like i can't put anything IN there from my comp. The phone doesn't read it.. i put a pic, it shows on my comp but it doesn't show on my phone..

Do i need a program from sharp?

You need to put it into the phone, and format the card. After formatting, folders that weren't there before will appear, and if you place the files (pictures, videos, sounds) in the correct folders, your phone will be able to bring them up.

So, I've been looking for a new phone for a while. I've been a die hard SE fan for a while but this thing is sooo sexy. Forgive me if I ask questions that have been answered elsewhere (I'm sure they have etc)

Is there a more detailed FAQ for this phone somewhere? From the pics it seems it works on Rogers in CA, what about T-Mo in the US?

What has to happen to get it to do so?

I've seen other threads talking about strange sims you have to cut a part of your sim out of to get sharp phones to work, and then parts of the phone don't work like internet usage. Is that the case here? Does GPS work?

Is there some other unlocking solution than the idk what to call them hack sims- like there is for SE phones?

Asking and saying sorry doesn't make it any better =/ You know better than this.

You have to buy a HyperSIM or something similar, and cut a piece off your SIM card to make space for the chip of the hacked SIM. From there, there are some steps that you should take, posted by jon_jai, that would make sure your phone functions properly. Read the thread "Before buying a locked Japanese phone.." in my sig to find that post.

T-Mo will work. Internet, MMS, GPS, and DoCoMo's services will not work. The SE phone unlocking solution does not work as of yet. The English FAQ has been posted right above this thread by Ch0p5t1ckB01.

According to NTT Docomo's website, the SH905i CAN read SDHC cards, however its limited to 4Gbs. SH905i specs translated to english

got the phone, got a simhack, it works! now i have quite a bit of questions to ask about it :S

1) Is there a way to remove the second clock on the stand-by screen?
2) Is it possible to transfer the contact from SIM to the phone?
3) Is there a way to make the phone recognize that +1xxx-yyyy-zzzz is the same as xxx-yyy-zzzz when you dial and receive a call?

after playing around with the phone, i can answer one of my own question.

2) Is it possible to transfer the contact from SIM to the phone?

Yes. Go to the phonebook and look for a contact that is on your SIM then go to submenu and click copy to phone, then on the next screen hit SelAll and complete. Viola! All your sim contact is on your phone, BUT, you now have 2 set from contact, 1 from SIM and 1 from the phone. I am in the process of figuring out if you can show from 1 source only.

To use speakerphone, during a voice-call just hold the [CALL] button for a second and it will be activated.

At first i couldnt find it and thought a DOLBY branded phone doesnt have it and got frustrated. After digging the english menu, i found it.

It's a fantastic upgrade IF you're using it in Japan

overall response speed is acceptable

yes - you can turn location service off and thus the icon

that's what you get as the standby screen when the phone is in that orientation. no full screen.

nope, the antenna is for tv signal

it can be useful if you're browsing the web with the phone, and personally i'm using it for security authentication too~

One can use MIDI with a $4000 synthesizer and it will sound amazing

I just saw on HWZ that there was a mistake with 15 fps, and it is really capable of doing 30 fps at 640x480. Someone there put up a youtube vid showing 300 play in amazing quality.

I use 15 fps right now too just to keep the filesize down. The only issue I have is even if I encode it at 640x480, the video won't let me zoom to the full size of the screen even when I put it on landscape mode. The option to zoom is greyed out as well.

Not sure. Anytime I try to encode over 640x480, it won't play the video, just audio.

I'm going to try and play around with more settings tonight. Luckily I can just let it convert in the background, I have so much work to do tonight for school lol

Awesome! What resolution do you normally encode with and what program? I use something called 3gp converter which had a preset for the sh900i and I edited the transcoding settings myself to have higher resolution.

wearegone on HWZ posted some high res sample clips a week ago. I got lazy and never tested them yet. He converted them on his mac. Maybe with itunes?

I tried Any Video Converter, but it wouldn't let me set 640 x 480. Then I downloaded this crappy one off of Download.com which I can't even remember the name of.

What do you recommend?

It's call SUPER, and it'll take in almost any file, and convert to another format that you want. It's really neat, and simply to use.

okay, big question! HOW do you put music on this thing? and does it have to be in .m4a (itunes converted) format?

and where do you put it?

after i formatted the micro SD, i get two file folder docomo and sharp.

I tried it and decided to uninstall it. The main problem is that it restricts your resolution when you choose 3gp unless I'm missing something.

I normally use this really small program called 3gp converter that uses a batch script to use ffmpeg so I just mess around with the .ini file myself with the settings.

What's PS3 Video 9? I'm only familiar with PSP Video 9. I haven't installed this program yet.. the one I'm using so far's been great haha.

Same thing pretty much. Just has PS3 video converting profiles.

I stopped using it since mkv2vob came out but it will definitely come in handy now!

i wanna know 3 things:
A)Does the SH905i work with MP3?
B)If yes , can i use an mp3 as a ringtone?
C)If i buy a DoCoMo SIM card and i insert it in the SH905i , can i use GPS application without pay anything?
...maybe i can use a duble SIM reader so with the italian SIM i call ecc. and with the DoCoMo SIM i can use GPS XD

Ah! I'll can tell you if i-mode works here! because i have the italian i-mode configurations ^^

A) Yes it works with MP3, you have to convert it to MP4 using Itunes.
B) You can only use .MiDI files as ringtones for now because nobody figured out how to use Mp3 as ringtones yet.
C) I think you need to have DoCoMo service in your area in order to use the GPS application.

I dont know anything about i-mode.

I found that finding the right folder in the microsd and renaming your file to the correct file name before it being detected was a little bit too complex. At least I got my backup contact list working from my V903SH, and that was pretty hard to figure out as well.

didn't work for me, I manually split the VCF into "PIMxxxxx.VCF" and put it into the PIM_DATA folder or w/e, still didn't show up

apparently it has to be registered in the phones PIM_DATA.PIM file in the directory or something. noo idea.

lol and riel, to top it off, i found out you needed +1 in front of all numbers for caller ID... so I guess you know what happened afterwards

oh actually what i did was i made a backup on the sh905i.. then.. i just replaced that file on the microcd with the vcf file with all the contacts.. volia!

i guess i just fell into it.

I just sync'd my numbers to outlook with a Nokia phone, changed them in Outlook sync'd back and overwrote my sim card.

The funny thing is, this happened to me about 2 yrs ago with another phone and I sold it because I didn't want to go through the hassle of adding all the numbers

Hey guys, I just picked up a microsd card for the phone, and tried throwing some wallpapers on it. I put the jpegs in the sharp-import folder, but can't see anything when trying to find them through the data box. Am I doing something wrong?! This is driving me nuts! Please help!!!

do you even have a working sim card in the phone first of all?

I would assume so?? The microsd card was formatted, and contained all the appropriate folders after I inserted it into the phone.

go into MTP mode.. go into windows media player and sync the devices..

go to this thread and go to the last 2 pages and read it.. it's step by step guide to do everything for p905i but works for the sh905i also.. and here and then go to page 338 it's all the folders and what kinda files to put in and how to rename them
for example,
in MMFILE folder (you can just create it manually)
and then put files such as mp4,asf, or 3gp in there (use itunes or something to encode the music files)
then rename them to MMF0001.mp4 or MMF0002.mp4 or something like that and so on put in there and it should work..

I'm just betting that since they're from docomo the interface should be very close. I know for P905i there's an option to remove the carrier's name, so I'm thinking there should be one for SH905i as well. Look into your network settings.

Make sure you edit the SMS settings. The default SMS message centre is set to "DoCoMo". Find which number to replace that with with respect to your carrier, by doing a search on here and then see if anything comes up.

*cancel GPS icon: menu->LifeKit->GPS menu->Loc. Request menu(6)->Loc. prov.(1)->SET OFF (standard password is 0000)

*cancel second clock: menu->settings->general settings->date settings(4)->right key(CITY)-> SET GMT+09 Japan
so it thinks you are in Japan, but it isn't the truth!!!

ohhh.. =p i figured those out the second i got the phone...
^^ takes only logic to know.. if u're in your own timezone u wouldn't need a second clock. lol.

I DISCOVERED A METHOD TO USE OUR MOBILE PHONE SH905I AS MUSIC PLAYER AND GIVE TO OUR FOLDER/SONGS FILES THE NAME WE WANT!!! :
(you must have a micro SD )

i can divide the procedure in 5 steps:

1)With your PC , convert an audio file to MP4 (audio) and give it what name you want, for example "SEXYAUDIO1"

2)With your PC , open your micro SD and copy the MP4 converted file in microSD->PRIVATE->SHARP->IMPORT

3)With your SH905i mobile phone , go to menu->LifeKit->microSD manager->Import->i-motion->COPY ONE BY ONE ALL THE FILES TO THE PHONE in "aquired data" folder.

4)With your SH905i mobile phone , go to the menu->i-motion->microSD->SUBMENU->manage folder->NEW FOLDER->MULTIMEDIA->SET THE NAME YOU WANT, for example "SEXY COLLECTION"

5)With your SH905i mobile phone , go to the phone's memory , in "aquired data" and copy one by one all the files to the microSD in the folder you like, for example i copy "SEXYAUDIO1.mp4" TO "SEXY COLLECTION", so i have a folder and an audio file that have the name i want, not MOL001; or MMF001 etc.!!!!!!!

You must copy one by one the file differently the procedure doesn't work...

IF I MADE SOME ERRORS IN ENGLISH I PLEASE YOU TO SORRY ME....

Im in Hong Kong and just got my SH905i working on Smartone-Vodafone with an i-smartphone 2008 sim, and everything except texting is working fine....i've received one text when i tried from my friends smartone phone, but other times i havent been able to. I tried inputing the same sms center number as her phone, but still cant send out at all...and only sometimes receive...any suggestions?

hi guys, long time reader first time poster. i finally bite the bullet and brought a sh905i, great phone btw, i'm currently in shanghai but will be returning to australia in a week.

Currently its coupled with a china mobile prepaid sim, and a i-smartphone 2008 sim hack and the reception im getting is horrible, im experiencing the same signal out issues as some others, where it fails to reconnect to new towers and can only be solved by cpr. no instances of auto reconnect has ever happened. it boots with the message "uim outgoing locked" is this normal? i tried to burn in the sim hack with a normal nokia gsm phone, but the nokia loses signal same as the sh905i :S

so my question is will this problem continue with the australian sims i'll use (sims from telstra or 3). or is it attributed to a problem with the sim hack. what sim hacks should i be using? i hear alot about benny's hypersim etc (i was told at the store that the i-smartphone 2008 was the one i could use).

and lastly what settings should i be using for the phone, in network search mode manual is greyed out leaving me only with auto which always failed to connect to anythere when it loses signal, and also for 3g/gsm setting, which do i choose? its currently on gsm

I find that the GSM reception on the SH905I is pretty horrible.... it works well in outdoor locations.. but the second you go into a semi-basement... or.. anywhere indoors... its phails so hard. And if your in that semi-basement for too long... you'll end up having to CPR the bloody simcard.

I guess its different to have no -reception (like in a subway station) and in a place thats suppose to have cell phone reception.. but the sh905i barely detects it causing CPR OUT.. .

If your 3G sim card works with your 3G sim. Go with auto. =P
If you have a 2G simcard.. you might as well just pick GSM.. because your phone won't detect the 3G network anyways with a 2G simcard.

Hopefully someone unlocks the Rogers 4000/u0.2 series soon..

hi everybody!
i'm a little afraid....

because yesterday i went to Rome and my SH905i just arrived to Rome lost signal for all the day....i had 2 mobile phones with me, one was LG U8380 (italian version) and i inserted the SIM in it...but nothing...no signal...
but my friends who had my same provider had perfect signal....

So i had no signal from 7am to 3pm , but at 3pm it got back signal until 5pm...after ? nothing, no signal!

I came back home and no signal....
today i woke up and my SH905i had signal....but i can't send SMS!!!

my LG differently send SMS...

but i wanna use my SH905i!!!!!

Another day i went to another city and it did the same...no signal....when i came back home i had signal again....i don't know what's happening to my SH905i....but i'm really really sad and angry!

please help me...differently i must throw my SH905i away...

1) Put your SIM + SIM hack inside your non-Japanese phone.
2) Use it for a couple days, making / receiving calls and SMS

After two or three days:
1) Put your SIM + SIM hack inside your Japanese phone.
2) Use it normally and see if your phone is able to reconnect if it loses the signal.
3) If it loses the signal and does not reconnect, then take the SIM + SIM hack out of your Japanese phone, and put it inside your non-Japanese phone. If your phone is able to get a signal, make a call, doesn't matter how long you talk for. Just as long as it rings on the other end of the line. If your phone does NOT get a signal, that means you are in an area with poor reception.
4) Take SIM + SIM hack and put it back into your Japanese phone.
5) Your signal should be "revived".

Make sure your SIM hack is attached to your SIM card properly. I had similar problems.

unlikely, as when i first put it in, its locked a thin metal strap (nokia 6230 model) its tight, and i can see that it has a signal and able to call/rec etc.

i was testing it it today on a bus going through a long tunnel which should has signal as others were using the their phones throughout and i was watching the signal bars on my nokia which jumped up and down when first entering the tunnel, then all the bars are gone and i lose connection, unable to make calls even when outside, no reconnect nothing, need cpr to recover.

return trip without sim hack, constant signal throughout.

also is it normal to have the sh905i +simhack show the msg "uim outgoing locked" when its turned on? even tho i can make calls and see gms and signals icon. albit for awhile as it dies as soon as i go anywhere requiring a reconnect.

do i have to carry 2 mobiles with me every time?

If you "break-in" your phone properly, you won't have to do CPR everytime you get a signal out. For starters bring another phone, one that will work with your SIM card but not necessarily a SIM hack. Basically an unlocked phone.

mine tells "uim outgoing locked" too and i can call/send - reiceve SMS
i downloaded a video on youtube and here there is "uim outgoing locked" too.
i think it's normal....i remember that when my SH905i didn't work, this message there was.....

How come it works for you guys. I get the "UIM outgoing locked", and as it says...no outgoing calls at all. When I attempt to call someone, it says "Set Charge Limit Exceeded".
I can accept calls, but cannot make any at all.
No SMS from either side

thats not true.. anything before the 903SH will do as well.

was away the past few days cuz of exams....did anyone else figure out how to do the 3gp ringtone?

also...

there was a moment with my phone where i would get no signal at all for the whole day...so i turned it off and switched to my other phone....i tried to get help to fix the sh905i, but when my friend put his sim card in the phone, the phone worked again...

did anyone have that problem? or can explain to me what happeend...=p

I understand how you feel. I've had that happen to me too. This means your sim can only unlock half way. It's similar to the 3G unlock issue.

What happens is you can only receive incoming calls and sms but you won't be able to dial or send sms out to anyone. This renders your phone half useless. I suggest you get a refund right away and try something else.

Well for the "UIM Outgoing Locked", I think some hyper sims can bypass that issue.

I just got the new one from Allen and is passes that, I can call people again
