MP3 Ringtone on AX565

Couldn't find this anywhere else. Is there a way to load mp3s onto the AX565 as ringtones? I've tried renaming the mp3 (less than 30sec, 128kb filesize, mono, 16000Hz modified through Audacity) as a .mid file and saving to my MicroSD card, but no luck. Is there a special extension for this phone? Or do I need to get a data cable and do it through BitPm?

Thanks.

let me know when you figure it out. i have the same phone, with a 4mb microsd card

You need to get a data cable. You'll have to end up moving the ringtone files to the folder "audios" rather than "music" and then go through the process in bitpim of deleting your audios file, and having the phone create a new one.

Sorry, I'm not yet familiar with bitpim, though I've seen it referenced it here several times. I can already put the files in the my_audios folder on the card, and thence copying into the phone's storage with no luck.

Could you please give a little more detail on the BitPim process? I'm sure I'll understand better when I get the cable and use the software a bit, but anything now will help.

Thanks

Sure. First, download BitPim and the LG Phone drivers if your computer does not automatically find the drivers. Delete the ringtones out of the audios folder, and back them up to your computer.

Open up BitPim and click on view. Make sure there is a check next to "View Filesystem." If not, click on it to check it. Then, plug in the phone. It will not detect LG AX565, but will say "Other CDMA Phone on _________."

On the left hand side of BitPim, expand the folder Filesystem. Then click on dload and right click on "lg_mysound.dat" and back it up to your computer. Once you have backed the file up, delete it.

Now expand the folder brew and media and lk and finally click on ms. Then, open up the folder on your computer with your ringtone files, and drag them into the ms folder in BitPim. It will take about 30 seconds or so to add each file.

Once you have added all of your ringtones, unplug the phone from your computer, restart, and enjoy

I keep getting an error when I do this on Bitpim...

Access to the file/directory has been blocked on this phone by the phone provider

Anyway around this on an Alltel phone?

I'm using Bluetooth and not a data cable as well

Ended up answering my own question. Yet hope there is a more simple way.

I've read all of the info in this thread and pretty much understand what I need to do, but I can't figure out where I need to go to get the LG phone drivers. I went to LG and couldn't find the AX565 driver in the list. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Christie

If you need drivers try this file. It will only be up for 7 days though.

It is all the drivers from mobile genie.

I have the LG UX565. I am not 100% sure, but I believe it is the exact same phone as the AX565. It's US Cellular versus ALLTEL but feature-wise probably the same phone.

Instead of using the data cable and mucking with BitPim, I simply popped the formatted microSD card out of my cell phone and put it into a memory card adaptor and then plugged that into a USB port on my PC. Then WinXP sees the memory card as a hard drive. Then I simply dragged/dropped some MP3s into the MyAudios folder. I used full length LedZepplin songs, and they work great as my ring tones. They are 128kbps files.

BitPim doesn't seem to support this phone yet. I've had zero luck with it.

Hope this helps.

With the AX565 you can't simply put mp3s on it and they work as ringers bit more complicated than that - however if you have the right COM port selected (and if your using bluetooth than make sure that the Serial connection is connected On my phone it likes to dis-connect alot also find out what the serial connections com port is for that is the one bitpim will read) than in the settings of Bitpim just choose the LG-VX8700 and go to data get phone data, select all the boxes tell it to get the data - and then it will bring up an error.. close it, than go back to settings, and choose Other CDMA phone (make sure the serial connection is connected blue-toothers) - and wala your bitpim will read your phone and you can add Mp3 ringtones by doing what was already said in this post
