gmail stopped working on my iphone

just this afternoon - gmail stopped workign on my iphone. every time it want to grab new messages it woudl come back and say that it coudl not verify the password or somethign along those lines.

so i removed the account and now i am trying to re-add it and it says "verifying Gmail account information..."

then comes back with:
"Cannot Connect Using SSL. DO you want to try setting up the account without ssl?"

whats up with that?

are you doing this connected to wifi? if so, try turning it off. also, try setting it up for imap if you aren't already. http://mail.google.com/support/bin/...py?answer=77702

i tried it both over wifi and edge - both gave me the same results.

i thought that with 1.1.3 firmware they had the gmail icon set up so that you no longer had to manually set up gmail as an imap.
