There are a lot of sources to thank for this post.

I made my v262 play mp3 for ringtone.

[1] I used GoldWave to trim my mp3 to the exact length. (You can also use WavePad.)

[2] I used WavePad to convert my trimmed mp3 to wav PCM 16k 16bit mono. (Save as wav. Then the wav options appear.)

[3] I used Qualcomm PureVoice v2.4.0c (Google 'PureVoice Downloads v2.4.0') to convert the small mono wav to qcp. (PureVoice v1.3.2 does not have the convert option.)

[4] I renamed the .qcp file to .mid. (This is not essential - but may avoid some PC->phone issues. If you have trouble transferring a qcp to your phone, or have trouble SEEING a qcp that HAS BEEN TRANSFERRED to your phone - try it as a mid.)

[5] I used "Motorola Phone Tools v3something", "Mobile Action Handset Manager v9", and "BitPim v1.6 (use Motorola v710)" to transfer the mid to my v262 ringtone (media) area. Each of the softwares worked with my Mobile Action cable (MA-8862C). (The relevant Mobile Action cable XP driver is 'mamotou.sys' v2.2.2.3 or v2.2.2.4. Connect to your software in your own way. E-mail the mid file to your phone if necessary.)

Again - thanks to numerous sources. This is what worked for me.

This works for Alltel, Verizon and USCC versions of these phones, but not for some other carriers. As I recall Telus and Metro PCS phones would display the uploaded file as a media file, but not allow its selection as a ringtone.

[QUOTE=coiley][3] I used Qualcomm PureVoice v2.4.0c (Google 'PureVoice Downloads v2.4.0') to convert the small mono wav to qcp. (PureVoice v1.3.2 does not have the convert option.)

I Googled 'PureVoice Downloads v2.4.0' and did not find a site to download it. Do you have a site or would you be willing to email or FTP to me? Qualcomm has taken it down do to lawsuit.

Out of an abundance of caution, due to the December 31st, 2007 injunction ordered against certain Qualcomm products, Qualcomm has temporarily removed certain web content until it can be reviewed and modified if necessary to ensure compliance with the injunction. It may be several more days or weeks before these pages are accessible again. Thank you for your patience.

You can do this without the Qualcomm software.

Get the Yamaha WAV to SMAF converter at:

http://smaf-yamaha.com/tools/licens...ocid=wscma2s210

Use the Yamha converter to make a ring tone that works on the V260, V262, V265 and V266 series phones from Alltel, Verizon and USCC.

Here are the steps, once you have made a WAV of your ringtone:

1. Open up your Yamaha MMF Converter (In the zip file, it should be named wscma2u.exe)

2. Next drag your .wav file onto the box, fill out the info, or just leave it as it is, and press ok.

3. It should say "SMAF File Created" and then the size, and the file will be created in the same directory as your .wav file.

4. Now you need to be able to see the extension types of your files. Open up My Computer, Go to Tools on the top, then click Folder Options. Then click View, and scroll down and make sure the "Hide extensions for known file types" is unchecked.

5. Go back to where your .wav file and your .mmf file are, and rename your .mmf file to .mid (for example Indaclub.mmf to Indaclub.mid) NOTE: THIS IS NOT REALLY A .MID FILE. YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO PLAY IT ON YOUR COMPUTER. HOWEVER, THE PHONE WILL ACCEPT IT AND PLAY IT (Alltel, Verizon, USCC).

6. Use the data cable or send the .mid file to your phone, and it should be under your sounds and it should be able to be used as a ringtone.
