Updating from 1.1.1 to 1.1.4 with ZiPhone 2.5c! How I did it...

Hey everyone,

My iPhone was on 1.1.1 for the longest time. I've held out from the 1.1.3 soft updates and such, and tonight I decided to take the plunge and update to 1.1.4 and unlock using ZiPhone 2.5c. I know this may be knowledge to some of you, but I couldn't find a thread on updating from 1.1.1 to 1.1.4, so here's my short tutorial to reassure those still on the fence.

This is what I did, step by step.

1. Downloaded iTunes 7.6
2. Sync'd iPhone; Clicked "RESTORE" in iTunes to restore to 1.1.4
3. After the restore was complete, I ran ZiPhone 2.5c (www.downloadziphone.org)
4. Clicked the "Do it all" button
5. After it was all said and done, everything worked like a charm. Popped in my Rogers SIM and it was pure bliss! YouTube, Safari, Locate Me in Gmaps, everything works.
6. Installed BSD Subsystem before installing any 3rd party apps
7. Sync'd my iPhone, then restored to my backup--everything was till there afterwards: contacts, Google Maps bookmarks, Safari bookmarks, SMS, etc

Side notes: If you get "Download Package Failed!" that is due to Ste Packaging's URL needing to be updated in Installer to http://repo.smxy.org/iphone-apps/

Thought I'd post this to help those still on the fence...follow these instructions and you should be golden. Cheers!

do you have to virginize your phone

Posted by: andrew110

No if you're on 1.1.1 you already virginized from the 1.0.2 unlock, that was the only firmware that needed to be virginized after an unlock because the unlock corrupted the baseband.

Would this work with a phone that was upgraded from FW1.0.2, BB3.14 to FW1.1.1, BB4.01.13_G? Not sure if this was only for a OOB 1.1.1 or if it could be used for us that upgraded to 1.1.1. Thanks

Yes. It should work, just restore to 1.1.4 via iTunes (note the RESTORE...not update) and run ZiPhone. It's dead easy!

wow that's dope. I'm going to try it out tomorrow and post my results. I been out of the iphone hacking scene for a minute and it looks like the ziphone thing does the jailbreak and unlock for you. can't believe how easy this has become lol.

I think if you would've done an upgrade instead of a restore it would've worked too. I brought my girlfriends phone from 1.02 to 1.1.3 like that.

not to thread hijack but...

why do some people prefer ziphone and some people seem to prefer iplus? I hear both good and bad about both so I dont know which one to use.

I believe iPlus is for 1.1.4 OTB and Ziphone is for everything else.

If you did a full restore to 1.1.4 then I think iPlus would be a better choice since you can fake to BL3.9

Correct me if I am wrong

Hmmm. When I clicked Restore in iTunes, I think it only took me up to 1.1.3. Now my iTunes doesn't let me set my phone up. It recognizes it, but I can't transfer anything. Any suggestions?

Will this work with ZiPhone 2.6?
