Diminishing Battery Life on Q9H

When I first got my Q9H, I was amazed at the great battery life. I could use it all day (I work on an ambulance and have a lot of downtime), and the standard battery would be down one or two bars, and the extended battery would be down one bar at most.

Now, it seems I am getting MUCH less battery life. For example, I have had my Q off the charger for 8 hours today, no calls, sent a few text messages (less than 10) and had maybe 1 minute of web browsing, and I'm down one bar on the standard battery. About the same usage yesterday resulted in one bar down on the extended battery.

I haven't added any software that would be using the battery more. In fact, I deleted the Express Mail feature in hopes of increasing the battery life, but I have noticed no change.

It seems to be affecting both the standard and extended battery, so I don't think it's likely that I received TWO old battery cells when I bought the phone in November.

Has anyone else noticed this? Any suggestions on a possible cause?

I noticed this happening on mine... but I figured out it was Facade. I had Facade running and displaying WAY too many calendar events on my homescreen and I had it refreshing every 30mins or something like that. So I cut mine down to 14 days displayed on my homescreen and the refresh to every couple hours... and bam! I'm back at GREAT battery life.

So the point is... are you running Facade? Or anything 3rd party that just might be sucking up battery power? If not... I don't know what it could be... any settings you might have changed?

Thanks for the reply.

No, I'm not running any third-party applications that would seem to take a lot of battery power. I have an ebook reader, some custom home screens, and that's about it. I even removed Express Mail thinking it would help, but it hasn't.

I do have two Outlook email accounts which were set to check for new mail every 5 minutes. I've changed that to every 10 minutes. We'll see if that helps.

the frequent email checks will definitely eat away at your battery life. If you can, try to get push email as it never "checks" email. Instead, email is "pushed" to your handset. Made a HUGE difference for me.

I've been using the extended battery since like day 3 of me having it (got it back in Nov. of '07 when launched). I've found that if I don't do a quick reboot of the phone after I unplug it from the charger, it eats my battery away. Extended won't even last 12 hours if I don't do this.

However:

1. if I charge it and it's fully charged (has the check box next to the battery icon)
2. then unplug the charger
3. turn the phone off, leaving it off for 3 seconds, and then turning it back on

I can get almost 3 days worth of use before it dies.

It's very strange and it's an annoyance I've learned to deal with. Maybe it's just me, but it's worth a shot. I feel like with every power cycle, the phone can recalibrate itself.

Are you possibly in an area where you are moving in and out of a 3G reception zone? Is the phone, perhaps, constantly switching from 3G to Edge?

If the phone is actively looking for a 3G tower and there are none it could drain the battery. I am not certain about the Moto but many 3G phones have a way to lock it into EDGE if you're not in a 3G area.

There is a program called Bandselect on the Q. It is hidden and a shortcut link must be made. This allows you to select 3G, Edge, or Automatic.
